I met some friends at my club field this morning and noticed a Red Tailed Hawk at the edge of the field looking for a meal. As I got closer, the bird seemed to care less about me and continued to concentrate on its prey, which turned out to be a nest of mice. Amazingly, I was able to get within about 10 feet before the Hawk flew off. What a rush!!...Continue Reading

My friend Ed Couch has several gorgeous large electric planes, but his 'new' Ziroli C-47 Skytrain is REALLY big! Ed found this 13-year-old beauty gathering dust and though it would make a great electric conversion. It has a 140" wingspan, weighs 51 pounds and is powered by two big Turnigy outrunner motors. Here is a link to Ed's e-conversion thread with more details:

Ziroli C-47 e-conversion thread

Last week, I had the honor of being asked to take some photos of the maiden flight. Thank you Ed!!

When my friend Doug Cohen told me he was planning to sell his camo-schemed Parkzone T-28, I knew I wanted to own it. It's a testament to Doug's skill as an airbrush artist and master 54mm figure painter, and I'm proud to be its new owner!

Well, I finally decided to upgrade to the new Canon 50D. This is Canon's top-level 1.6 crop body and is an amazing camera. It features 15.1 megapixel resolution, Live View, self-cleaning sensor, 6.3 frames per second, a 920,000 dot LCD and more! Here are some of the first photos taken with it...

I try to make at least a couple of trips to the Zoo each year, especially in the Fall when the weather gets nice. I decided to experiment with my new Canon 580EX II flash in the daytime with the animals at a distance. Some came out pretty well and others were a little blurry. Guess I need to get some more practice!...Continue Reading

I've said it before but I am so blessed that I have super-talented modelers as friends. It allows me to indulge two of my favorite hobbies, flying r/c aircraft and photography! Here are some shots I took of the latest in a long line of AMAZING models designed and built by my friend Sparky, an electric Convair B-58 Hustler that weighs 4 pounds!! Look for it soon in Flying Models Magazine

Update: Well, my lens purchase plans have changed. I talked it over with my wife, and think I'm going to go for the 'big gun', the Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L with IS (image stabilization) which I hope to have in my hands in late May. This is the lens I've dreamed of owning since seeing the magnificent results that my buddy Johnathan was able to achieve with his. Here are a couple of sample images taken by Johnathan with this magnificent lens!

For the past 2+ years I've been very happy with the results I've gotten thusfar with my Canon Rebel XT, but I recently had a chance to try out a friends Canon 30D. WOW, what a great camera! Same number of megapixels as my Rebel XT but a substantially better feel and performance! Its magnesium body just feels wonderful in your hands and its bigger LCD and preview wheel are just great to use. The Rebel XT has an impressive 3 frames per second shooting rate but the 30D takes 5 frames per second, literally almost double! This feature alone should vastly improve my number of 'keepers'! in addition, its advanced autofocus system and exposure programming are really what I need in a camera for r/c action shots. With the recent introduction of the new 40D(several very nice new features but nothing I can't live without) have caused the 30D's price to drop nearly $300, so I figure that now is the time to order one

First pics with the new camera The improved autofocus system and exposure programming are awesome. The Blade CX2 was shot at ISO 1250 but is still pretty clear!
