Like many of you, I have been captivated with RC flying since my childhood. I remember the first time a local club president let me fly control line for the first time. Spinning in a circle, it felt like that little airplane was never going to run our of fuel. The summer I turned 14 I got my first job stocking shelves. My only goal: buy my own nitro powered airplane. The old 4 channel Futaba radio alone cost me $169. I must have looked at it 20 x's while I piled up the money to buy it. It took me all summer, but I was in the air after $600.

Fast forward to today and I am just as hooked as I was 30 years ago chasing that plane in a circle. Many of us have watched the hobby change a lot, I am still amazed at how fast fpv drone racing changes and develops.

I've been satisfied with the machines I've had for a while, but decided it was time to upgrade: a set of new skyzone c02's and a new quad from hobbycool and I was back to stunned with what tech has been developed. OSD, 6s batteries, screws in the bottom of motors instead of those awful c-clips?
What have I been missing????

Here was my quad of choice when upgrading:

Shipping took about 2 weeks for the quad and goggles from hobbycool and 4 weeks for my flysky receivers from eBay. what toruture!

Finally got the bird in the air...and the results were amazing!!!

Ive crashed many times and still laugh when it happens...but to dump this in as hard as I did on not have any damage...incredible!

If it's been a while since you've upgraded, it's time!

Here is my video review (below). Bring on summer!

Hobbycool recently provided me with goggles for review. They are the SJRG01's.

These goggles seem very exciting on my computer screen. But are they as good in person?

Short answer -- YES!

See this video for full details. Ask questions. I'm happy to answer. More to come on these goggles.

Selfie Drone follow-up
Eachine E52

The new Eachine e52 is in and I must say, great product!!!

The package arrived completely undamaged thanks to the nice box it was packaged in. A small little dent on the box was the only thing that showed the trip it took from China to U.S.

When I opened it up I was so happy to see a full sized transmitter inside.

3 words words: stable stable stable. The yaw was a little slow, but other than that, this thing flies beautifully.

Using the app left a very pleasant experience. I found the thumb controls to be far easier than the gyro control. Video signal was clear although the range on the phone isn't very far. With just the radio its great. Maybe that's my phone's fault. Who knows.

Altitude Hold
Every time I see a spring loaded throttle stick, I think - "oh boy." But today - wahoo! This thing holds perfectly. Banging the sticks around I can get it to drop about 6-12" but as soon as I return to a hover it recovers altitude within inches-- EVERY TIME! very impressive.

There are other features I still need to figure out, but my impressions so far???

I can't believe this quad is only $35. They have come so far so fast its almost hard to believe.

Great job Banggood! You did it again!

Eachine e52 Selfie Drone

Buy it here: https://goo.gl/DYAugy

Is it just me or does this thing look super cool. It kind of has that "I wish I were a Mavic" look to it. Well, either way - I've got one on the way and I can't wait to review it!

My hopes for this one include a longer flight time than 3 minutes. I hope it lives up to the expectations.

Does anyone else own this one? What do you think of it?

Review coming soon!

I was taking my usual stroll through Banggood' newest products and what do I see???

It looks like BangGood is releasing a new micro version of the blade inductrix style quad.

Of course I ordered it and will be doing a full review when it comes.

Eachine Racer 250 PRO

Buy it here: https://goo.gl/p9WSen

For this article, I have to go all the way back to the beginning. It all started for me with a YouTube video of some guys flying quads through a forest. Having flown RC for nearly 20 years, I knew I had to try this fpv quad racing thing.

Thus my love hate relationship was born with my first quad - the Eachine 250 Racer.

I struggled to advance quickly with that machine. When I would crash it, I would break it. It lacked power and tuning was frustrating and difficult. My 2nd quad showed just how far the original 250 Racer was from a racer.

Enter the all new 250 PRO.

First Impressions

Just simply comparing side by side, the new pro version has definitely been changed quite a bit. These changes include: new frame design, new motors, new ESC's, new arm material and design, less weight, tiltable camera, smaller tail light, completely different power board and a different flight controller.

The machine comes built and ready for a receiver. But, because you ave to add the receiver it means you must connect to cleanflight. As you will see in my video below, that was not easy. Thanks to FryeSG I was able to flash betaflight to the f3 flight controller by changing the baud rate. (See my video) Everything else was straight forward.

WOW! This machine is everything the original wasn't. It's quick! Forward flight is smooth. It has more than enough power. When you chop the power it's...Continue Reading

Best Pocket Drone of 2017?

Eachine E55 - $35
Buy it here:

Ok, so maybe Eachine's new E55 pocket drone isn't the best pocket drone on the market. The camera is low resolution and it doesn't have a gps ---- but this is without a doubt the nicest flying toy quad drone I have flown yet.

With a price of around $30 I wasn't sure what to expect.

First Impressions
1. The build quality was actually very good!
2. The quad is light and folds into a compact bag included for free.
3. The props are hinged suggesting they can take a beating.
4. The radio isn't like one of those tiny cheerson cx10 radios. It's a perfect size.
5. It has a removable battery!

...this looks promising...

First Flight

I'm not one to read directions so I had fun button banging to figure out takeoff. You actually have to turn the motors on before hitting the auto take off button. I like that! It feels like spoiling up.
Ok - I'll admit it. I was disappointed when I saw that it was autoleveling. I've had bad experiences with these little house quads. They seem to drift all over and you fight the auto level the whole time. Not the E55. I'm not kidding when I say it never drifted in altitude by more than 6 inches!

The quad was very stable in a hover. The fpv signal had almost no lag. The controls felt precise. Even the iPhone app worked well for controlling this little guy.

I will never forget how much my first 4 channel airplane cost 20 years ago because it was half of all the money I made that summer. My hand built trainer airplane cost more than $500. At that time, I thought it was great that a 15 year old kid could make his own plane. This is why I remain simply amazed that a person can buy a full function 4 channel quadcopter with a camera for less than $50. The changes have happened so quickly, some stand out more than others.

Such is the case with Eachine’s new E55 offered by Banggood.

There are several features that make this new little quad stand out.

- Portability – With folding arms, this quad will tuck right into your pocket.
- WIFI – This quad can fly with either a controller or your phone.
- FPV – Through wifi connection, this quad can send a video signal right to your phone.
- Price – This unique quad will cost less than $50.

I am looking forward to getting my hands on this little quad and testing if the performance matches all the promises. Stay tuned to see my impressions of this feature packed little drone.
