Furibee is a Chinese brand available on Gearbest very active in the FPV market. One of the first and most interesting product was the Furibee Fuuton 200: a great $180 plug and fly drone. Then they delivered many models in the market (maybe too many?) and the Furibee Darkmax that we are reviewing is one of the most surprising and powerful that we ever tested! Let us see it in detail.

The Darkmax is a pre-built FPV Racer for intermediate/advanced pilot target. The Furibee idea is to deliver the lighter and most powerful quad possible in the under $200 price range . With a weight of ~260g (without battery and propellers) it is the lightest 5" quad in this price tag.

Technical Details
The electronics consists in the very interesting Artower F4 Plus with a 4-in-1 BLHeli_S 30A that supports up to 6s batteries (yes, 6s!) and an Omnibus F4 with an integrated power switchable video transmitter. These board delivers all we need to manage our quad and fpv video.
The fpv camera is a 1/2.7" CCD camera with a 130 degree FOV, the VTX offers an uFL connector and a RP-SMA adapter for the provided linear antenna.
The motors are DYS brand, model SR2205 2550KV. They push out a lot of thrust, as well as they are balanced and robust. We didn’t notice any kind of vibration from them.
The quadcopter comes out with two sets of polycarbonate Gemfan 5152 propellers. They are probably too much for this combination of...Continue Reading

After 5 years on this hobby, I have built countless of Multi-rotors, all configurations and my own designs and configurations/mixes. Sadly, I am at the point that this hobby is really getting boring and my interest is almost gone. Time might come that I will totally retire and RC-Plane flying is not on my menu and it has not catch-up with me.

I have built some bicopters/dualcopters and it's one of the most interesting configuration and the most simple thing to build for it has the least parts and really cheap to build and for some /most guys,it's the most disappointing and frustrating project and mostly just gave up on it.

I have all of my build on this compilation and if you are interested, you are very welcome to see them here.

FPV Freerider Simulator for Android,Windows, Mac and Linux (3 min 10 sec)

Hello everyone welcome back.

In today's video I will be showing you another helpful application that is available on the google play store. This is FPV Freerider for Android. This is a very affordable sim that is available for PC, Mac and Android. Setting up your Taranis is a breeze. I find it really handy to have a sim on my phone because well, I always have my phone on me so there fore I always have a sim with me.

Here are more details on FPV Freerider

This simulator requires a high end device.
Note that this is a RC flight simulator, not a game. You might find that the controls are hard, but that's because it's made to mimic real life. It is highly recommended to use a good physical controller.

Supports first person view (FPV) and line of sight (LOS) flying.
Includes self-leveling and acro mode.
Option for low resolution mode (to be able to get higher framerate)

This is a demo with one scene only (the desert). The full version of FPV Freerider includes six sceneries and a lot of more setup options for rates, camera and physics, as well as a 3D flight mode for inverted flying.
The quad in this demo has deliberately rather sluggish settings, in the full version you can tune it precisely to your liking.

Touchscreen controls support mode 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Mode 2 is default input:

Left stick - Throttle/Yaw
Right stick - Pitch/Roll

If your device supports USB...Continue Reading

Well it has been just over a week.
Last Sunday my friend Michael CRASH Hancock lost his battle with cancer.

Crash was a friend. I truly valued his friendship, and he will be missed. He enjoyed helping people. He loved sharing his knowledge. He was the constant enabler. After just a few minutes of talking to him, you would want to jump into something new. He helped many people get into CNC and 3D printing and quads. Crash got enjoyment knowing he helped someone get into a new part of the hobby or a new hobby all together.

Crash was the gentle giant. Everyone that got to meet him became an instant friend. He treated everyone like family. I am proud to say I knew him for almost 9 years. I had the privilege of flying with him on many occasions. He will be missed by so many.

And as he would end his show,

Go out and build something
Fly something
And enjoy this great RC hobby

Time for a new jet.... but why? So many to finish, and so many to fly already!

1) It is big
2) It is very cheap (on sale)

I always had liked my 70mm Panther and the T-33 is quite a similar aircraft, but this time at more of a 105/120mm EDF size! BIG.
Even though it also fits - and comes with - a 90mm EDF setup.

I was 'worried' about RC Lander.... as their stuff tends to be very OLD Generation and fairly poorly 'executed'. And once again, it was exactly that... oh well.

HobbyKing had it on sale for AUD$520 and it would cost a fair way towards that for the EDF and ESC it comes with.
Plus reviews on it were not that bad.
RC Lander stuff can end up LOOKING pretty good, but they are still very 'rough' made models. And seeing pics of it looked good, and flying reports were very good, I decided it would be a 'good idea'.

Once I got the jet I found it was the 'latest' iteration/version of it. Which had all the upgrades added over the years, plus a 12 Blade Dr Mad Thrust (RC Lander) 1000KV 10S 4500Watt EDF. And a ZTW Gecko 150A HV ESC. So those were great to get with it, and made it excellent value!
The retracts are BIG and robust too, so they are worth quite a lot of $.

One nuisance is that it uses Wire Pull-Pull steering. And it is a really bad setup! Not that ANY wire Pull-Pull setup is any good!
So that will need to be modded into a PUSHROD steering system!

The paintwork is very good! A bit dodgy in some areas, but overall very good. More so for all TOP/SIDE surfaces - which the foam finish is also excellent for all of those. But quite lacking on the UNDERSIDE of the wing!

My fellow clubmember Jack W took my suggestion and purchased a Valiant 1.3 M. He had been flying his Apprentice and Timber and enjoyed both but damaged his Timber severely. I told him that the Valiant Flys faster, longer, and almost as slow as the Timber and already comes with the Valiant landing gear that we have been putting on our Timber models. By moving the Valiant gear full forward in the belly battery compartment of the Apprentice and Timber the pitch over forces are minimized. The Valiant gear can be moved forward in the Valiant battery compartment for the same advantages and it is much easier and quicker to do.

Jack had programmed his Valiant with SAFE Select on the B switch and after verifying controls to have proper throw I proceeded to maiden his new Valiant. I put the Valiant on the short grass and slowly increased throttle for break away thrust. The grass was only about 1 high but created just enough drag to cause a pitch over. I could bend down and give her a push with full up elevator to get her moving but knew a forward gear would solve the problem. I had modified another clubmembers Valiant (Bob W.) and after 18 hrs of dual time the gear had held up even with my severe doughnut stress test.
I had used ply and hardwood to screw the gear in and it took about 3 hrs. I wanted to do it quicker and at the field. Heres how I did it.

I removed the 4 bolts and the Valiant gear. I then lightly sanded the aluminum legs that form the U shape....Continue Reading
