I built and flew a Flat build PT-17 but it had turned out pretty heavy and with the flat wings the performance was not real good... Round #2 is in the works. Found this one on Youtube and with a few build mods I think I can build it a bit better... I hope! Flite Test is going to be releasing their version soon but I am trying to mod the design of this one so it's being built in the Flite Test ways. It will be approx. a 55 inch wingspan and all the equipment I had in the other Flat Build PT-17 should work great in this one. The lower wing is built and I only need to cut out and rig the ailerons on it along with installing the servos. Top wing next which I hope will be a bit easier as it will have no Dihedral like the bottom one does. Stay Tuned...

Update 03/17/20 Top Wing is now completed and the fuselage has been started on. Photos attached

Update 07/22/20 Fuselage is finally starting to look like a airplane Photos attached

To Whom it concerns...

The new imposed regulations for as you call "Drones" with registration of each unit and Remote Id for each is unattainable for the average Hobby Flyer like me and will eventually Kill the Hobby Flyer and the Hobby. I have been a AMA Member for 20+ years and adhere to the rules of our charter. I also fulfilled the previous requirements that the FAA imposed on our hobby by registering with the FAA and adding my registration number to all of the current flying Toy Airplanes that I fly. TOYS... Not a real aircraft is what I fly! How is it that Ultra Lite aircraft have less requirements to operate than you are trying to implement on RC Hobby aircraft? To have a active Transponder system implemented on each Toy with each Toy registered and only allowed to fly in limited areas designated by the FAA will inhibit most Law abiding RC Hobbyist from enjoying the Hobby. How does the FAA intend to implement this ordinance and police the operators of Toys. The FAA has enough issues Policing the operations of Real Aircraft. Just like the debates going on over Firearms and trying to limit who owns them and the type that you can own... Taking the Gun away from a Law abiding citizen allows the Criminal to do what he wants to with no consequences. The Criminal will always find away to commit the crime Gun or not... So in lies the problem with regulating RC Hobby Toys... Some will try to adhere to the regulations imposed even if they are ridiculous just...Continue Reading

I had a Great time at the Walter RC Park in Saranac Mi. The weekend following the forth we had a Fly In/Drive In on Saturday along with a Pot Luck for dinner and Fireworks at dusk. It was a good time and all the planes I took came home one piece and not in pieces...

If you ever get to Mid Michigan give the Walter RC Park a visit and tell Dave I sent you...

Well other than the non stopping rain here the temperatures have went to the better side of zero. So the build shed has been opened back up and the bench cleared for whatever may emerge... And something is!

You take one of these and do a little cutting and end up with this... still lots to do but I think it might work

I was talking with a Co-worker the other day about his collection of real airplanes. We got on the subject of his BD-5 and how I would like to model one the same way I built my Rearwin RC model... A bit of Balsa and Ply and Dollar Tree Foamboard. He brought in the next day plans for a all wood one spanning around 50 inches. After taking the plans to Staples and having them scanned and copied I sat down and gave them a good look over. I think I can do it, I just happen to have a complete power system just sitting around doing nothing that came out of my now retired "Cuda wanna Bee". Maybe add some retracts. We will see... but Old Man Winter needs to leave first as it is just too cold in the build shed to do anything even with the heater on. Stay tuned... Mudman1959

Well Spring passed by and other planes took the build table for awhile... Now we are slowly going into Fall here and the build table was open for a New build...
A few hours of work and the fuselage is starting to take shape......Continue Reading

Due to in-climate Weather this page is closed until Spring hits... It's too cold in the build shed to do anything.

It started with a mess all over the work bench... But in a two day period it became something. The Flite Test "Edge" looks really good! Well why not I asked myself... So the plans were printed and cut out. Traced to the foam and hand cut. Lots of Good Rock & Roll music playing in the background, Hot Glue was flying everywhere... And it slowly emerged. The plane is a bit bigger than the original FT one as I am thinking about powering it with a over powered Brushless Motor. I cannot leave it stock! And of course there will be mods as I see the need. More to come...

I finally got the tail and the nose finished up.

Hey all... Did anyone else see this new tool in the October issue of the Model Aviation magazine? I have one airplane that uses the “O-ring” to hold the prop on and have fought with it more than once trying to get it on. This tool makes it a lot easier! Speaking of making... well that’s what I did. The allen wrench from FT was bad so with the scrap piece of brass tubing and a little filing and drilling I now have the tool. Works great!

Once again my Hobby is under attack! The Government, Private Parties and Corporations want to limit my access to fly my Radio Control Airplanes. The pending new rulings include that my Radio Control Toy must have a Transponder System installed so they know when and where my Toy is at... At all times. I follow the AMA regulations and am a current Member. I fear our Hobby is now threatened and this may make our Hobby disappear. We live our lives by Rules and Regulations but this is getting ridiculous! The New Bill has already passed the House and now is up for a vote in the Senate. Please help us keep our Hobby alive! Read the attached AMA write up on this. Please contact your area Senators and let them know to vote NO on the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018

I acquired this one from Dave Walter at the Walter RC Park in Saranac Mi, and it was just the cut foam only. It is a West Michigan Park Flyers "McFoamy" but it was one of the early kits which is no longer produced. I finally received the missing wood and carbon fiber parts for it and started the assembly yesterday. Covering is colored packing tape I had leftover... Uncovered assembly Pics are from the WMPF site as I did not take any during the assembly...

A Modified Flat Build P-40

I thought I might be able to do a few mods to the Flat 40 and give it a bit of an upgrade. Going to do a Flite Test Motor Pod. Not to sure on what to do about the white areas at this point. Maybe colored Markers to try and match the printed colors. We will see....
Stay tuned... Mudman1959

F22

Just a quick built F22... 21 inch wingspan... Cut the plans out, traced them on the foam and cut the pieces out. All done this afternoon. Power is a 1350 Kva motor turning a 6x4 APC Prop with a 30 amp ESC on a 3 cell Lipo. Should move along nicely!

Mudman1959

Plans are for a Nano F22 that I blew up to 400%

Traded off the Zagi Fixx for a New Zagi... The Zagi HP... EPP Foam, 48 inch wingspan. The build to start soon!

Mudman1959

And the Build starts...
Got a chance today to start the build on my New ZAGI HP 48 inch EPP Wing. They have updated the kits with carbon fiber strips for the top and bottom of the wings to keep the "Ole Zagi Flap" to a minimum. It also has a Plywood main spar that gets reinforced with a carbon fiber strip. Mine came with a roll of Fiber reinforcement tape and two rolls of the colored tape. The hardware kit is very complete including the pushrods, pushrod control clips and plastic control horns, all good quality parts. I had a older Ducted fan laying around that has a great can motor, unsure of the KVA but I am sure it will turn a 5x5 APC on a 4 cell lipo with no problems , going to have to buy a few batteries. So after a bit of surgery it was removed from the fan assembly and now lives in the Zagi. The Plastic parts have all been updated to .060″ Styrene which is definitely stronger! This one should be a fun one to fly... Stay tuned

Well it flew... One round around the patch to get it trimmed in and then I threw the juice to it.... It torque rolled into the top of a tree and made it all the way to the ground. Only damage was one wingtip fin was MIA. The prop even survived!

A all original in the box ZAGI "Fixx"... Even has the ZAGI candy in the parts bags... Looking at trading it back to ZAGI for an updated ZAGI. This one is too brittle to fly but it is a complete kit maybe ZAGI can reproduce a new one out of better foam someday... This one has some repaired damage from being bounced around for a few years......Continue Reading
