I made a test flight with the finalized version of my magnetic wing mod today. (If you haven't already see the full post: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=2266803 )

I haven't gotten into any aerobatics yet, but the wing does wonderfully for scale, smooth flight and looks so nice in the air and on the ground.

I had a small glitch on one of the board- mounted servos, which was easily maintenance thanks to the wing. A few drops of cleaner and working it back and forth solved the problem.

The wing itself held out very well, never popped out once and was very stable. I worry about getting into higher level aerobatics and the stress on the wing, but so far so good.

Tomorrow I'll do the aerobatics test flight- see how it rolls, loops, knife edges and does the rest of them.

So far I'm very happy with the magnetic wing, and with how it performs. I love the simplicity of it, and my favorite part is the folding pull tab. I can't wait to make this mod on a clean wing, it's going to look great!

Hi all!

DISCLAIMER: Before reading further please understand that the photos you see are not the final photos. I will be uploading better ones in the coming days when I get an SD card. The photos you see currently are from my iPod. If you are having trouble making out something in the picture, please wait for the higher- definition pictures.

My 'sleekified' magnetic wing mod is complete! I've been working for the past few days on a customized magnetic wing mod for my Carbon Cub. While I do know that there are a few others out there (Gabe/bigapple thanks for your inspiration), I thought that I could improve on current designs by making a system that was both ligthweight but aesthetically appealing.

Improving on the base design of current mods, and basic materials, I began to experiment with exactly how I could make it possible. At first I wanted to have a full- length carbon spar running the length of the leading edge, uninterrupted. I thought that by cutting away the appropriate amount of plastic from the canopy mold I could 'latch' the leading edge spar under the canopy, thus securing the front of the wing and allowing me to work on the rear attachment magnets.

I wasted an entire fuselage doing so. The plastic molding was too stiff to be 'gently' cut away, and when I finally made the desired cuts, not only did I find that the wing wasn't far enough forward, but that the AOA had DECREASED because of the amount of space the spar needed to fit in properly. I...Continue Reading

Hi all!

Don't you just hate the flimsy, weak foam that comes as the tail sections for HH's UMX models? They break so easily, and so many times need to be replaced.

Now, that all can change! Micro Strength RC is dedicated to providing you with the strongest, lightest parts for your models. Expertly braced with strong carbon fiber, these parts are HIGHLY unlikely to break- and add little to no weight, meaning that while you get vastly improved durability, your flight performance won't be affected at all!

I've made dozens of flights using these braced and modified parts- mostly on my UMX Carbon Cub SS. The strengthened parts take quite a beating- being flown into trees, cartwheeling, and numerous bumps, scrapes, and nose-overs from scrappy landings. The wing broke before the parts began to wrinkle- and broken counterbalances are now a thing of the past!

Check out Micro Strength RC's site today for the full range of products- they'll likely be the last parts you'll ever need to buy!

Edited in some pics of my current tail section- it's been through a lot!
