Gotta share this.....I've lost planes to mechanical failure, signal loss, bug strikes, and dumb thumbs......never had one catch fire in mid air until today...........uuuhhh.......it got hot....but the smoke trail was spectacular ! it looked like I'd been shot down by a missile....ESC, wiring, and receiver are a total loss.....haven't tested the EDF motor

Had over 100 flights on this airframe..guess I pushed her too hard for too long

As I suspected.....this POS fan won't push it across the ground....it may fly the aircraft on a hand or bungee launch......I have all kind of bad words for this thing.......the 6 blade plastic version will pull a similar sized flat jet right out of my hand and launch from the ground easily.....DAMMIT!

What a complete waste of money ! It won't happen again

I was all set to start assembling my Avro 707A entry for BBCC 7 when the fan and motor arrived......the powerplant was not what I expected....I thought I'd ordered the 90 mm Freewing 6 blade with a plastic housing, but received the 12 blade version with an aluminum housing.....much much heavier than I anticipated. So I decided to test the fan in a $10 foamie rather than a $100 balsa scratch build....to which I scaled up my simplified version of the Avro CF-105 Arrow to accept a 90 mm fan internal of the fuselage.....she'll maiden sometime soon.

CF-105 Arrow (simplified)
90 mm Freewing 12 blade with aluminum housing
Freewing 3748-1450 kv brushless
125% free inlet air - 85% FSA efflux
100 amp ESC with a 5A BEC
3700 mah 40 C 6S
TowerPro MG946r Servos
36" WS x 46 OAL 50% KFM-2 airfoil
Elmer's board with CF spars
60 oz all up - 112 oz (supposedly) thrust
Lemon full range 6 channel Rx
