Flew the belt cp in the backyard a few times yesterday. I quickly learned that terrain topology matters when hovering in ground effect- the heli slid downhill and trimmed a hedge a bit with the main rotors. Thankfully, I managed to recover with no real damage.

I had affixed the esky tx to my futaba neck strap with a nylon cable tie. Unfortunately, the nylon failed; the tx dropped to the cement floor and gave up the ghost. Time to transplant my fms encore rx into the belt cp and program my 9c for heli use.

A 10 minute hover draws 1.4Ah and drops the pack voltage down to 11V or so, or about 100W average power.

Might need to stiffen the training gear a bit.

100 pack of 12" bamboo skewers, 5"x2" scrap of coroplast, 4 twist ties, epoxy : $1.50

First hover in the basement : priceless

Can get about 10 minutes to the pack.

The included lipo does not seem to be of very good quality. 1800mAh/5.7oz=315mAh/oz. TP ProLite 2100mAh/4.7oz=446 mAh/oz. You get what you pay for. The pinout on the balancer plug was easy enough to confirm with a voltmeter, so I'll likely replace it with the aftermarket TP balancer connectors I found at rchover. The battery retaining system leaves something to be desired. Also, it's odd that they put shrinkwrap over the esc heatsink.

16.8 oz + 5.7 for the lipo = about 22.5 AUW. Can probably save a bit of weight by going with a prolite as well as upgrading the rx, but the heli seems tail heavy as it is, and a lighter pack will only exacerbate that.

The USB interface cable for my 9C works well with SSS. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the folks at MileHighWings had ported eFlightWorks to the Mac as well, so I was up and running within a few minutes.

I haven't gotten the alphamacsoftware simulator working with the interface cable yet.

Rearranged the basement a bit and made a 1 foot square on the floor that will be my helipad for the Radd method. Burned a couple batteries through the belt cp today.

Couple more flights at sunset yesterday. Adjusted trim today, covered and installed my new canopy, and sanded down the ABS flashing on the spinner that was rubbing against the cowl. Might head up to Gude, hopefully it's not too breezy.
