I built this one for a replacement for my 44" Fan Fold wing after it was showing signs of failure after being flown for a year... I put a bigger battery, ESC, and motor on it and it flies great. After I did the maiden flights and got it all trimmed in I decided to add some color to it. Not the greatest job... More like a 30 footer! As long as I can tell top and bottom. Build it light and it is a floater, Build it a little heavier and it will handle the winds good. This is a great design and it is a good Wing for a starter wing. Update 09/08/10
Well I retired this one today... Something was wrong with the wing. I could never get it to fly hands off also I built it too heavy by taping it with strapping tape. It did fly but not as good as my 44" one. The electrics have been salvaged and will go into a "Divinity II" that I had a buddy of mine cut out on his Phlatprinter. So look for a new posting for it's build... Mudman1959

I have been toying around with this Idea for awhile and after some studying I decided to break out the Fan Fold and see what emerged from my mind... Well as the hours flew by this is what emerged. Not sure if it will even fly and defiantly not sure where the CG point will be. Several other planes of this type like the "Scimitar" balance at the tips of the leading edge. Still trying to figure out the battery placement and of course there is lots of sanding to do yet. Power will be from a GH 2212-10 swinging a folding prop left over from my foam "Gentle Lady", powered from a 40 amp ESC and a 3 cell Lipo. This plane is not going to be a show plane ... just a design study. I like trying things like this as it can be a challenge in just trying to get it to fly, but herein lies the FUN! The fuselage is Fan Fold foam just rolled and glued with formers inside for support. The canopy is left over from my now deceased attempt at a F-18. The wing is based off of the basic Fan Fold wings I have been building and flying for awhile now; the fan fold foam cut to the wing shape and taped at the leading edge and bent back over a doubled fan fold foam spar and then glued and taped at the trailing edge. This design after taping the wing proves to be a strong wing and really does not need a CF spar. The Elevons are just Fan Fold foam doubled up and taped onto the trailing edge with the leading edge of them cut at a 45 degree angle for clearance. I put a little Dihedral in...Continue Reading
