Just organizing content for the LONG overdue V3 Titan Sport Jet EDF Conversion. This can serve as a temporary landing spot for those wishing to attempt the "bash" before I finally get my act together!

I will update this blog post as I progress!

Good luck, thanks for stopping by, and happy titan bashing!

Be sure to check out the Titan Bashing thread here:

Thanks to all who have contributed -- It has grown wildly beyond my expectations and continues to "live".

Apologies for the format - again, I am using this post to compile images/content for the final build document

An EPIC 2nd flight!!!!!
SNice Sbach 342 - 48" R/C Scratchbuild (11 min 36 sec)

After talking about it, typing about it, and thinking about it, I have finally started my larger version of the Snice Sbach 342 3D AKA "SniceBach 342-3D"...

48" wingspan with fully symetric airfoil. Removeable wings... I'mso excited about this one and it is off to a great start. It is based off of my smaller 34" SBach plans - the only difference being the true airfoil, removeable wings and the larger size.

This will be my first build/design where I do not use the Kfm4 airfoil. I still love the Kfm4 airfoil -- just want to give something else a try for a more scale appearance as everything is scale on this plane with the exception of the control surface sizes.

I completed one Prototype wing and I couldn't be happier with it! I may rework the aileron construction a bit. But other than that, it feels amazing when I spin it around (my "windtunnel" test). My main challenge will be figuring out how to attach it to the fuse and making sure it lines up with the other wing. I plan on using a central tube in the fuse but we will see how that goes.

When developing the wing, I got a lot of great inspiration and ideas from this thread which discusses "simple" techniqies for making airfoiled wings...check it out! Reading

My most recent design and build - a 34" full fuse sbach 342 with scale lines (fuse has not been elongated). A larger version is in the works with a possible built up wing -- (42-50"WS). This is a stable and super agile bird -- and it is giving me a lot of 3D practice! Just about got the Hover locked in!

Plans and Build log here:

It's been a loooonnngg process, but my Mirage is finally in the final stages of the design process. This is the first plane that i have designed entirely from 3-views. I have a few little tweaks I need to do -- Fine tune the CG, reduce control surface throws, and add a grip on the bottom to make launch a little less stressful. She flies great, now I need to go back and update the plans with allof the changes I have made. Once that is done, I will post the plans.

My latest scratchbuild -- and right now the pride of my fleet!!!! L-39 64mm EDF 33.5"WS. Built out of dollar store foam board (depapered). 120% scale of original design plans by RCGroups member 'Low Pass'. Build log and link to plans here:

Maiden was this morning, and the jet performed absolutely beautifully!!! Prior to the maiden, I had a few worries:
1) AUW & Thrust -- the model turned out well above my planned AUW. All of my previous jet builds have had close to 1:1 thrust to weight. This one does not! Another thing that took away from the thrust is the fact that my thrust tube exit area is 85%FSA. My builds are normally at 95-100%FSA. The AUW of the model with a 1600mah 3s lipo is 664g; with a 2200mah it's 727g. The static thrust of the EDF (held above a scale) - with the 85% FSA exhaust is about 440g. That gives me T:W of .6 for the 2200mah lipo and .66 for the 1600mah lipo. I was very worried about the thrust value!

2) Stalling -- all of my other jets tend to have nasty stalls -- I have a RTF foam mig that has stalled and entered a flat spin several times! I was worried about that with this jet too! I ended up setting up both ailerons with about 3mm of up trim. I hoped this would help to ward off any tip stalling.

3) Control surface deflection -- I had no idea what proper deflection values should be for any of the control surfaces. I set them pretty large and hoped for the best. I was mostly...Continue Reading

This turned out to be a very interesting project! I finally got to use my thrust vectoring nozzle. I've flown the plane several times since the maiden and am starting to get used to it. I'm still a little unsure about the thrust vectoring nozzle -- perhaps it does not rotate enough (I only have regular servos - not 180deg). The yaw seems extremely sensitive while the pitch T/V is not as responsive. I think I need to dial down the rudder throws as they put the plane into a nasty roll when fully deflected. The thrust vectoring does help to maintain control at slow speeds and allows her to hover (I need much more practice). She will knife edge without the T/V!!! Overall a great plane! and I'm havin' a blast learnin' her! Still needs a paint job!!!

This is the same airframe as in the previous post. I wanted to test out a twin system and decided to use this as my guinea pig. Motor "plate" is removable so I can switch back to single EDF or even pusher prop if I ever want to.

****UPDATE: I have taken this model back to the drawing board and am completely redesigning her! The new and improved version will be larger, sturdier, and much more scale in appearance. Plans are pretty much done, and the V2 prototype is in the process of being built!... stay tuned!!!!!

Here is my latest project -- my first true scratchbuild -- built from 3-views. Once all is finalized, I will post plans!

My second attempt at converting this Kid's chuck glider into an EDF jet -- and this one is a winner! I may have to build another with a hotter motor and a faster airfoil! tribute to the HABU 32!

Builder's note: This build is also the first EDF that I have created that has clean ducting. I now see the light! I will no longer clog up my inlet ducting with wires, ESC's, tape, and foam! Thank you to all that had a hand in helping me come to this realization!
