Here's a kit prototype I did themed on the Phil Kraft 1966 Das Ugly Stik, since it's a rocket glider with a tail mounted motor, I needed to have rear mounted wings for CG reasons, the first variation was a canard with kf airfoil which flew great but I built it without a kit in mind so my wingspan was too long and I had to slot the tubes for the wing/canard. A few customers really wanted a kit, so since I had to rebuild it to fit into a kit box anyway, reducing the span would make the glide shorter, so I decided to go with a staggered biplane design and get rid of the canard. This was my first biplane. With some planning the kit came out perfect with no nose weight needed. 11.5 oz, 23.5" wingspan, 32" length for my usual 24mm E-6 motors. I tried to keep the general tail and wing styling and the color scheme. On early testing I found I was getting wing flex without interwing struts which would make it hunt in pitch, I inserted two 3" wide struts and that fixed the problem. Painted with testors flat red and finished with cut vinyl decals from stickershock23.com.
My daughter had 10 minutes for a video in the morning, so I just did one flight, boost and landing were good, I did push over a bit early so it cost me about 10 or 15 seconds of glide time.
