P1B 1 electric FF (3 min 32 sec)

I got up , and there was zero wind outside ...
It was supposed to be 15 to 25 kmh ............

Put the model in the car ( no wind ) , 2 minute drive to the park = Wind is blowing ..............

Anyways , a quick test chuck ...... A CG adjustment ... And then a power run ..

I was in a hurry , Cos the wind was picking up every second .. ( As I type this it's just about a gale out there )

So looks like proof of concept ....

It's nice to be right some times !

Hmmmm , In deed .....

Ok the problem with the P1B-1 ...

The folding prop was the problem ..

A) The prop weighs too much
B) RPM and torque roll are effected by the heavy prop
C) Props hangs or folds , changes CG
D) The folding prop is a nasty cheap affair ...

So after a while I realized the folding prop was the problem and the model was hung up as an ornament .

The other day one of my FF models with a timed electrical system fell onto the floor .... Ding Ding !
And a idea flashed into my brain ...
For over a year I have been wondering what to do with the P1B-1 , mostly geared around some form of RC .
But what if I could ? Fit one of these timed electrical power systems ...

The battery fits in the tube , the timer / switch fits in the tube ..
I 3D printed a motor mount for the pusher set up .
The P1B-1 glides amazing without that brick of a factory prop .
The power system has been tested in doors , but not out doors ( very windy ) + the mod is barely 24 hours old .
It looks promising !

I was lucky , the 3D printed mount came out perfect 1st time out .
The motor is a 7mm DIA and the system uses a Lipo battery that is USB charged VIA the timer .
There is not enough power to pull vertical , but horizontal should be fine ..
Hopefully be some fun , especially as the rubber powered factory set up was a PITA .

What I need now !
Is to 3D print a nose cone that allows me to push the start button ..
My 1st attempt at such was a full fail

FMS800 Vtail (5 min 45 sec)

I haven't flown this in a long time ..
The conditions were really sweet , the 800 just needed a little trim ..
Anyone that likes a really gentle flying model ..

This one has a Hobby King folding prop and almost the entire flight was @ 50% throttle .

Micro Tundra crashed and broken (5 min 50 sec)

Wow , what's with the crashing ?
Almost like , flying skills deteriorated after 2 years of lock downs .

Yeah , MT .. I pushed my luck and broke it ..
But , it is reparable ..
Though I cant trust the way the wing mounts ( weak ) without the wing struts ( I broke the plastic ends that screw into the wing / model ) ..
So I will have to resort to old tech ... BBQ skewers and rubber bands for extra hold down power .
Micro Tundra will fly again ..

Crashed the XK A430 (6 min 40 sec)

Oh dear !
Was doing some inverted flying ..
And forgot all about rule No1 .. Don't chase the plane ...

Yes , I began to chase the plane .. & I should have pulled the plug on the inverted flight right away when it happened .
But I thought I could get ahead of it ..

I was wrong ! I had time to pull the plug but got stubborn about it ..
And the XK A430 flew into me ...

No , no pain or suffering , except for the embarrassment !
The XK A430 is so small and light I barely felt the impact .. + I cut the motor just before impact ..
No damage to the A430 .. So just kept flying .
I have to remember , the A430 is a fast angry little monster and things happen quickly .
Which is why you need to be ahead of the plane ..

Oh well , stuff happens and it's good to have a football field to yourself so you can hot dog a little .

Two Battery Morning ( Turbo Timber ) (8 min 41 sec)

After a short sharp 2 month lock down ...

Im a little Rusty ....

First battery to familiarize myself with the TT ...... again !

And the 2nd battery to try some inverted stuff ... Try and pick up where I left off .

This was Melbourne Cup morning ...

Anyways , the TX16 sure gives a slow roll ... Might have to go back to the Taranis .
Also , might need a new motor ...
Really feeling the lack of power with the TT , just needs more , just Turbo it a little .
The two blade is better than the 3 blade , just needs ....................... more
It's almost there , just not quite reaching it's full potential .
And I am not brave enough to 3s it ..
So I might want to start looking at a new motor ..

Perfect RC morning XK A430 (6 min 3 sec)

It was supposed to be windy !

My back kicked me out off bed around 6.30am ... So after hitting the porcelain , I went to get a drink ..
Glancing out the window , Blue Sky and a perfect chalm ...

So I grabbed the XK A430 and went out for my morning walk / fly / walk back home .
As soon as I closed the front door on my return , the predicted wind came up .. And the wind blew for the rest of the day .

Still rusty azzzz can be !

But I did try a fair amount of inverted action ... It's tough when for two months ( quick sharp lock down ) your under 22 hour house arrest and no outdoor activities are permitted ...
I mean , just how much of a threat is a guy standing in the middle of a football field flying a Micro Electric Plane by himself ? ( Verboten )
Such is life in a Convict Colony ...
And all the rubbish Stalin wanted , Dangerous Dan is making a reality ! All Hail Ming the Merciless !

XK A430 nearly hits the ground (5 min 16 sec)

I over rotated in a turn and almost crash the A430 ..
Really need to be careful with this plane as the roll rate is crazy .

Still , a amazing morning that quickly turned into a windy rainy day once I was done !

If only I had known earlier it would be such a nice morning ..

The rust is showing from all that Gooberment protection . ( Super Nany State )

Sports Cub S2 (6 min 4 sec)

Yeah , two months since last I took the sticks .
When will the insanity end ? I guess when and if the insane are voted out of office ! ( I guess )
But when you give people power ! Are they prepared to give it up .

Warning to the world , Oz is top heavy with power ( the people are powerless ) .
Is this the path you want to take ?
For the last two years I have seen stupidity at it's best from our alleged leaders ( I didny vote for them ) .
So , if you vote stupid ! = You get stupid !
Or as the saying goes .... You get the government you deserve ! ( you voted for them )
Austrlian's have been punished for their electoral choices , will they learn ? History tells us No !

So I had to try and rid myself of unwanted weight ..
So I tried a print without a top and bottom surface .. For a open frame .

weight = 19.36 grams ... That's just for the PLA

We are still in perpetual LOCK DOWN ( Thank you Dangerous Dan )

How much longer ? Christmas maybe ( Xmas to some ) ...

So off to Thingiverse I go ...

There be this wing that I been thinking off .. Printing .

So far today , I printed out the centre section @ 20% infill , and it's a brick ..
So I am doing R2 with some design changes to better
A) Accept a 949 flight control board
B) Accept a 8520 brushed motor .

I will back off on the amount of material used , maybe 10% infill .. As the print came out very strong ( overly strong perhaps )
So I will start a new print ASAP

Check out the other posts in this thread .. ( Contain updates )

QSP Parrot D2 (12 min 28 sec)

Have you heard people say - My Kingdom for a decent pocket knife ?

What I have today , is a decent pocket knife for the money .
It doesn't look TactiCool or anything , it is in fact some what a classic pocket knife when it comes to size and looks .
It opens via Thumb Stud , slowly or quickly . Just depends .

Problems - There was only one !
My liner lock was SOFT ! and the knife would easily gravity open . ( I hate this )
SO I had to dis assemble the knife , give the liner lock a bit of a bend inward and re assemble .
Lock is nice and taught now . No issues - barring in mind it did need correction .

Blade steel .. Good old D2 ! I really like D2 when it's done correctly ..
Factory edge returned some 250 slices
and my 22deg 180 grit diamond cut edge returned 450 slices of rope . ( Thats decent D2 performance )

With a flat grind on the blade , it makes the spine of the blade almost perfect for running on a ferite rod ( make some sparks ) as the angle at the spine is greater than 90 degrees . It does throw a nice spark ( In the video ) .
Here in the land of Oz , the price on the parrot at the moment is just under $55 republic bananas . This makes the Parrot really good value when compared to some overpriced , underperforming knives on the market .
Remember , this is the D2 version . I own a earlier 440c Parrot that completely disapointed .
I much prefere decent D2 to some underperforming exotic . ( But thats just me )
I like the D2 Parrot , an if they all are made to the same standard ( hopefully tighter locks ) , then a big thumbs up from me .

A few years ago I made it my mission to save as many Aeromodeller documents / books as possible .
Over at Hip Pocket ( https://www.hippocketaeronautics.com/ )
There is a sizable collection of Vintage magazines posted .
I have posted under two user names ( old4570 and MattEK )
Anyways ,,,

Time to get help - To fill the gaps in Aeromodeller magazines .

Needed are issues from :

1939 - 02, 03 , 04, 05 ( Months )
1940 - 01 thru 08 and 11 , 12 ( only have 9 and 10 )
1943 - 02
1944 - 07
1946 - 12
1948 - 11
1949 - 08 and 12

As you can imagine , from 50 to early 70's is rather complete ..

So if you have these missing issues and can turn them into PDF's That would be great .
Or maybe photograph the pages ?
It would be great to make these issues available to an ever decreasing modelling community ( Save our history )
Our Hobby = Our History !
