I believe this feature of the MX-3A ESC is unknown to most. This esc in its stock form is programmed to accept pwm input of 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz and 8kHz with a simple modification. Simply add R1 and R2 resistors (form a voltage divider), value is 1K, size is 0402. This size resistor is "small" but can be done with most ordinary iron with a sharp tip. I have soldered many components this size with a dirty old 40W Weller soldering iron.

Hint, find any copper rod, rivet or similar of correct diameter to fit your iron and sharpen to a point, round point ever so slightly. Clean and tin as it heats up.

Thanksgiving week here in the north east and for the second week in a row I was able to "double dip " and get in 2 flying sessions in one week

Tuesday started with a couple of inches of fresh snow and a forecast of 15 mph winds and 36 degrees - Perfect to get a old flying buddy who had moved down south and was back in town for the holidays out for some fresh air....and get some stick time on a good combat wing {His current slope plane is a Goldberg Electra }.
I downloaded the Knife Edge model from my radio to his and out we went,I knew it would be a good day,my buddy the red tail hawk circled us as we walked up the hill .
The wind at the top was less than predicted and vectoring ,not the greatest conditions especially for a newbie ...
I launched and trimmed the wing , flew around scouting the lift and showing him how to search and cruise.
These Knife Edge wings are very efficient , if allowed to run they will slice thru sink and climb in even the lightest choppy lift that we often have on our hill as the wind vectors around.
I handed him the transmitter and coached him for a bit,after a couple of minutes he was doing well by himself so I asked if he was good with me putting my plane in the air,he said yes so I jogged back to our gear and grabbed my plane hoping he would still be in the air when I launched .
No problem - he was doing fine and enjoyed the game of hide and seek as the lift ebbed and flowed around and out in front of the hill .

Just could not wait any longer for parts so, what did I do?

I went to work on my beloved Turbo Jet and fixed as best I can the Frontal Fuse area using 1850 Watt hair dryer, White Glue, and Spackle by 3M.

Hair Dryer took out the largest dent on the nose and white glue placed the two halves of the FUSE back aligned and even.

Also, replaced the Nose Retract, wheel and it steers like new!

I could not believe how well the Jet flew this morning!

Zoomed like a home sick dove!

The most common problems seems to be with LiPO or lithium batteries are with e-bikes fires but not limited to e-bikes. The bigger the device or battery the larger the risk.

I got to say the most scariest part of owning LiPO batteries besides the fire hazard is the fact that I ride the elevator up and down with those batteries while you're temporarily trapped inside the elevator until the door opens. I know there are some safeguards for elevators but that's more for not the elevator stopping on the floor that's on fire. If my battery is going up in smoke while I am in the elevator is the elevator going to stop and the door open or am I going to just have to ride it out. I'm guessing it will stop and open the door. It can happen in my vehicle too but I can stop and get out.

This is not fiction. This stuff actually happens and yes people get burned buy lipo fires and harmed by smoke annihilation and sent to the intensive Care unit. And yes some people do die.

I'm more afraid of the smoke myself cuz I have gotten my wiff of that smoke and it was bad. Wasn't trying to smell it but just was the lingering effects of the aftermath during a damaged lipo fire test outside in a completely open outside area.

I keep my batteries outside so not too much a problem as far as smoke damage indoors. That is if windows and doors are closed neighbors included.

Just thought this was worth mentioning although there's going to be some who wish I didn't. I don't care about them. Greedy bastards.

Well, guys....

My luck is just amazing lately.

A few days ago, I locked in on someone selling a BLONDIE locally and I grabbed it in short order!

It just needed a little (very little) TLC (Tender Loving Care).

Overall the Eye Candy is there and looks like new after cleaning the model and Filling some dents (hangar rash) and touching some areas with paint.

A few pictures of my new to me BLONDIE!

Maiden Summary:

This model does okay in the airspeed department, however, it is a little too light and gets bumped around a little with some wind, however, the landings are just amazing such that I was able to land it for three landings with KISS-THE-GROUND effect every time many came to ask, "What Model is this?"

LiPO batteries are common. They used in cell phones and computers and electronic devices as well as our RC devices.

The LiPO batteries used in the RC industry often don't have the kinds of protection that the cell phones and other device batteries have. Don't compare the two cuz they're not the same. Yes cell phones do catch fire but not that common.

It is well documented that lipo batteries are a fire hazard. Lithium batteries also. Life batteries not as much. HOBBY STORES, LIPO LITHIUM BATTERY FACTORY, HOMES, VEHICLES AND MORE HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. Yes they have been deaths also. Unfortunately the dead can't tell you about it.

The advice normally is do not store batteries fully charged because they are at a higher risk of catching fire.
Do not store batteries in an area where materials can catch fire and smoke damage can occur. LiPO fires give out a huge amount of smoke and yes it is harmful if not lethal. So do not inhale. Not only does water not put out Lipo fires but can actually cause a LiPO battery to ignite. Charged Lithium metal will ignite in water. Sand is a better alternative. Water can be used to put out some other materials that have ignited, but not all.

Batteries that are at storage voltage of 3.8 volts per cell still can catch fire but are at a lower risk of doing so. Try not to get confused with stored and storage voltage. Stored is the location. Storage voltage is the state of batteries charge. For...Continue Reading

So the power burn with the DSLR + rudolf + headlights was 410mAh/mile. Tried to get the red glow reflecting from a tree tunnel. It shows up more when seen from behind. The EOS RP seems to have less noise in HDR mode. It takes 3 pictures with varying shutter speeds & might average areas which are properly exposed in all 3 areas.

Was way back in 2003 when my spouse and I brought home our very first TMaxx truck from the LHS. It was on 27MHZ and powered by a standard Traxxas Pro 15 engine. By the summer of 2004 it had been modified with a new body, extended A-arms, and a change to a lower primary gear ratio. Since then, the radio was swapped out for a 2.4MHz system, and it has been through a couple of different bodies, two engines, one fuel tank, and one set of tires. Not bad for nearly eighteen years of fun.

Wish I could remember the exact date and from whom the spouse and I purchased the second TMaxx truck. It was purchased used from a fellow RC Groups member sometime around 2010 or 2011. This time around it was the larger Traxxas TMaxx 3.3 model. It was in great condition, and it had already been modified by the previous owner with lots of extra, high-performance goodies. Similar to the smaller truck, over the past ten years this one has gone through a couple of different bodies, one clutch replacement, and just recently an engine replacement (its first). Not bad for over ten years of fun.

No, the mustang, itself, is not here yet, but nearly everything else is, So, I'm going to make a little progress update.

Here is what has come in even though I am not home to take pictures.

The zenoah has arrived, it will be checked over for shipping damage, boxed back up and begin its journey to Performance Unlimited in Florida. They are going to do their array if tweaks to boost its performance darn near to what some 70 and 75 cc motors do, if not more. Estimated hp in the 6 ho range at 8000 rpm.
At the same time, they are going to cut me a bushing at a length of 31 mm with a 10mm ID and a 14 mm OD as well as drill for and insert two more pins in the prop hub offset 90 degrees from the factory pins.
This is in preparation for the mounting of the Ramoser Vario-prop, currently being kitted by Christian in Germany for a 23 1/2 inch diameter 4 blade.
The retracts have arrived, all the servos, the transmitter and recievers, recievery battery servo leads, all but 2. I still need 2 24 inch leads.
Ordered the adhesive supplies.
I'll need to order the tru-turn once engine and prop are both here. It's going to have to be custom cut. I'll make them a pattern with measurements. Not hard to do.
I'll also make a drill pattern for the modified hub. One for tru-turn and one for drilling the prop hub for the pins.
I've decided to set aside the included hanger 9 decals, instead I've asked Callie-Graphics to do up a set for Will Feord's P51 of the same 357th so I don't have to completely...Continue Reading
