Mystery is a good name until I find out the original name. I’ve finished the retract repair and will check the mechanical operation and the prop clearance when level. I have a power 46 temporarily on standoffs and looking at similar Senior Pattern Aircraft (SPA) designs for power choices. From a past post:

A funny thing happened on the way to the RC Field! My year 2000 self caught up with my 2023 self and I finally finished my private pilot license!

After 9/11, a growing family and focus on career, my 13-hour log book was put on a shelf as a quiet reminder of my attempt and thankful that I could. Fast forward to my 2022 birthday when my wife of 38 years gives me a card with the number for a local CFI and a note saying, “go finish…you’ve waited long enough!”

I resumed my lessons and hoped that the past 12 years of RC might provide some transferable skills. Yes and no. Being IN the plane with all the instrumentation, and feeling/hearing the plane, makes a world of difference! Third class medical…check. Written exam…check. Solo…check. Hours upon hours in the pattern, then fantastic hours doing solo cross-country flights. I hit some snags….airport resurfacing, eye health issue, weather scrubbing my check ride and me in my head. But it all came together perfectly on December 14, 2023 when the examiner told me “congratulations!”

I wore my SEFF hat during my first lesson, on my check ride and all flights in between. Homage to my RC passion and all the great people I have met!!

Now I get to share this with my best friend, and pay it forward as it was shared with me by countless pilots over the years.

Calm winds my friends!!

Andy at C RX turbines in New York State has my recently serviced 190 Swiwin engine. It has been a great motor so has new bearings it’s all cleaned up ready to go asking 1900 for it and I’m flexible.

This is the first stage of the repairs.
A rough out landing ripped out the port undercart leg .
My job now along with a good friend is to repair .
This is a full composite glass along with a lot of carbonfiber 2 seat Dynamic.
Will update as we get the repairs underway.
At this stage we have to wait for the factory repair sections and the jigs to arrive from Slovakia.

HEQ Swan Pro - PNP Getting Started - Setup & Maiden (16 min 41 sec)

I recently received this VTOL plane from HEQ UAV to create a build tutorial after the owner saw my tutorials for other RC plane brands.

It's a VTOL plane with four motors that takes off vertically and tilts forward to transition into fixed-wing mode. Despite lacking control surfaces or elevons, I expected it to fly poorly, but to my surprise, it flew smoothly in fixed-wing mode, like it's flying itself! Steering was as simple as applying roll to maneuver it around the flying field, and it maintained an altitude of above 20 meters, preventing dives below this threshold.

For takeoff, i think only VTOL mode is possible, which is one of its key selling points—no runway required. The maiden flight was initially nerve-wracking for me, as this was a new plane new experience. The motor size looks like 2212 or 2216 spinning four 9-inch props, producing an intimidating sound. However, once airborne, it confidently held its position in the air, with the ESC/motors responding quickly to adjustments.

Regarding transitions:

From VTOL to fixed-wing mode:
a. Ascend to at least 20 meters.
b. After flicking the switch, wait a few seconds, as even if the transition altitude warning appears, it may still perform the transition. Avoid flicking the switch again quickly, as it may cause abrupt behaviour but it did not fall out of the sky.

From fixed-wing mode to VTOL : Smooth transition. No drama. So far so...Continue Reading

I’m fairly new to this hobby and I was wondering of all the planes that you can buy, which is the best? ( ex: RTF, PNP, ARF, etc) Because I want to know the best way to easily get my plane in the air and hook up my receiver and transmitter.

I built a second version of my 4" diameter upscale Estes Interceptor modified for R/C Rocket glider recovery and using 29mm H-13 longburn motors. This second version I modified with more forward placed spars top and bottom of the wing to avoid flex/twist and made the wingtip pods removable with carbon guide pins, plastic recepticles in the wing tip and a magnet to hold them in, I can now remove them for transport. I also laminated a 6mm sheet in the center section of the wing to help with wing stiffness as well. 62" long, 35" wingspan, 35 oz ready to fly with the 7.25 ounce motor included. I updated my elevons to be full span instead of barn door and reduced their chord and mounted the metal gear digital servos more toward the center of the control surface through the wing itself. Maiden went great, I had to make some down trim adjustments during boost leading to some roller coaster on the first flight, second flight was golden. I sized this to allow the elevons to be able to trim out the CG shift due to the 4.75 ounces lost in the tail during the motor burn. Glide elevator trim setting via a flight mode on a switch setting.

UMX Air Tractor BNF

I ordered a micro Draco last month because I had a $10 coupon. They were on back order so my payment approval expired before the Draco was in stock and the order was cancelled. On Wednesday, April 3rd, I found a 15% off coupon and ordered a UMX Air Tractor from Tower Hobbies. Saved about $25. The reasons I changed to the Air Tractor from the Draco is because it is less expensive, different because it is low wing instead of high wing, and uses the same motor, prop, and lipos as my UMX Turbo Timber Evolution. I have seven or eight replacement props, spinners, and prop adapters that will fit either one, and five 3S lipos. They also use the same motors.
To my dismay, HH and TH both put the Air Tractor on sale for $40 off on April 5th so I actually paid $15 more than their discounted price.
I checked the details of my Air Tractor order this morning, 4/6/2024 and it still showed "awaiting shipment".
About 10am, I heard a vehicle outside and heard a mild thump outside my back door. Went out and found the Air Tractor package. I hope I like it as much as I like the TTE.

We had a blast flying the "new" CZ T-28 over the last several months thanks to a supporter named John from Texas who sent the plane our way as a donation.

Here's our take on the plane overall. Enjoy!
