Hi all,
I really hope to get the issues related to interaction with everyone resolved. I am hoping to hear from people, share progress, and learn from you all.

Below are pics of my progress. The fuselage is nearing completion of the Balsa wood build phase. I have sanded and applied filler, it is nice to see the classic B-17 “lines”.

Most of my electronic parts have arrived. I am waiting for the control lines as I hope to install them next to seal up the fuselage.

Hi all,
I am having difficulty getting this build blog going. It seems like I have a lot of views, but absolutely no responses from any of you. It defeats the purpose of a blog for me as I am looking forward to interaction. There seems to be a problem at RC Groups as it appears as if nobody is able to respond. I need help from someone to contact RC Groups and let them know.

Check out my build progress below...

Hi all!
Can someone either post or PM me? I am attempting to get my build progress blog going. I am not sure if people are able to respond to my link. If any of you have issues posting let me know, if PM isn't working contact RC Groups.

I finished the planking to my access hatch (sans sanding). Painstaking process, but baseball helps! Parts are slowly starting to arrive.

I finished the electronics access hatch. It was a bit uncomfortable cutting into a model I put so much time into, but it turned out well.

Next up is planking. My thought is to plank from the nose to the end of the wing. Not sure if that would add too much weight. Does anybody have input?

My overall goal with this project is to learn as much as I can about setting up RC electronics for flight. Once finished, I'm going to set this model aside and learn to fly on something more user friendly. I've also read a lot about the RC simulators, which sound like fun. Flying the B-17 will come in time.

I haven't been able to find an RC hobby club over here, and was hoping to learn from other members on this forum.

I've otherwise have been having a lot of fun tinkering with this B-17 and learning about electric RC. The fine motor skills required have also been helping out with my recovery.

I'm hoping to hear from any of you out there...!

European model dope...

Hi all,
Thought I'd share this. I was recently presented with a flag which was flown over Omaha Beach, Normandy. I had it framed along with a blood tube full of sand I collected from the beach, seemed to turn out well.

I am very fortunate to be stationed over here, and try to share the experiences I am privileged to be able to be a part of. The history in Europe is unparalleled... I try to preserve momentos like this as a reminder of those who sacrificed before us.

Here is a quick pic while waiting for parts to arrive. I'm working on dry fitting the framework, and soon will be doing some plankwork. Next I will be creating access hatches and lightening the overall frame.🇺🇸

I'm still attempting to figure out how to properly set up this blog. Hopefully these pics will be viewable......Continue Reading

Through research, I have put together a list of parts to hopefully make this project airworthy. I am looking forward to everyone's input. Thanks!

ALCON,
Serving overseas here, got an injury that required surgery. As a kid, I put together many Guillows kits and dreamed of someday being able to convert them to RC.

The injury inspired me to reach back into my bag of tricks to find something to do to help me with fine motor skills. I love old WWII Bombers, and decided over a glass of scotch to purchase a B-17 kit.

I discovered this site, and was able to view a number of builds such as "MELTOR's" and found his cooresponding YouTube page which was very well done.

I guess I'm inspired, and now want to convert my model to electric RC, but need a bit of help getting started.

I have time as I'm convalescing, and money isn't an issue. Figuring out what to order parts wise has been tricky, and I'll be asking for assistance with help with wiring.

I am requesting assistance in coming up with a list of supplies to order, and would love to hear recommendations. What worked well for you, what you would do differently, ECT.

I would like to create an inventory list of parts to order to include:
Props
Motors
ESC's
Receiver
Recommended servos for:
-Aelerons
-Rudder
-Elevators
-Bomb doors
Battery size
Retracts and supplies
Tail wheel
Covering

My goal is to make this airworthy. Whether I will fly it will be up for debate, but I can see myself getting back into this hobby.

I am looking forward to learning a lot with this build and getting to know you all. I hope you all have fun following my progress as well. Thanks for your time!
