so i am flying along today with the new Turnigy HAL quad and it begins to make a REALLY LOUD noise. I land immediately thinking a motor was rotating on the boom but it was a broken prop. Half of it was GONE
what kind of props do you use? These were Hobby king props they are highly visible but are flimsy as all get out. I have been using slowfly APCs with no problem but i am thinking i need to got to a heavier prop. any comments appreciated.

well the last hoembrew quad was short lived. mostly because i didnt realize how well the self level should work and lack of visual cues for orientation. after crashing three times, I built this second homebrew while I wait on HK to send me some new frames. the thing is I want to build my own frames but have to find a way to beat or get close to the weight of cheap turnigy kits. I like the talon v2 from HK but 50$ seems a bit much. anyway here is the kit i made. here are the motor mounts
could save some time by using pan head screws but i didnt want to trek 20 miles and not find enough of them.
rivet them to the 3/8 channel and the channel to the tray.

so after smashing up my turnigy talon quad the first time I shortened the booms and went again.. somehow I got disoriented and did it again..I think age is catching up with me.
I figured I would make a scratch built quad copter of 600MM. so far its is moving along well. Trying to not get it to heavy but that may prove to be difficult without carbon fiber or fiberglass parts. I am using 3/4 aluminum channel from lowe's and some .063 6061 aluminum sheeting scraps I had leftover from a build. The plan is to use solid rivets to assemble to booms to the center plate and attach a second plate and landing gear for components. It is a off the top of my head build with no plans so there may be several back up and punt moments.
3/4 channel from lowes.. just barely wide enough for all 4 screw holes.

Well FINALLY, I made a set of Alex's CL ans SPW antennas with the right coax, connectors, and .035 welding wire....flew this morning and they did really well. Soooooo, I wanted to try my goggles with SPW. So i made another one, it took an hour or so..but the learning curve has kicked in and the feed gap was minimal, the ends terminated with no overlap and the lobes came out nice. I did like the soldering them on then bending them. Seems a lot easier than installing them after they are bent. I flew out past the current marker and all was still clear.. because i had them on my test bed i didn't want to get to far without telemetry. I made them to 5800 and have only changed the channel once so it may even get better. I did have to do some scrounging for the correct SPW lobe length.
Definitely worth the time but even more so worth the money...I like to make my own stuff but really buying them would have saved some serious time...

well i have been enjoying flying the pogo for a year now and the speed was very nice but not what i thought it would be. I really like the plane and wanted a bit more.
I was at a fly-in and some rep from horizon was there. (Not very friendly, like i remember old timers from the 70's.) He had some nice stuff. He ran a plane similar to the rifle and I was attracted to the way it flew.
I was in my LHS http://www.cjshobbyshop.com/ and picked up a rifle that i ordered a few days earlier. I installed the stock motor and servos with an e-flite 25 amp pro speed control. I am running a turnigy nano-tec 2200 3s 50-70 c battery.
I have not clocked it as of yet but man this thing really moves out. I flew it first without any expo.... DON'T DO THAT. That was almost disastrous. I brought it in set triple rates 100/50/30 with 30/30/10 expo aileron and elevator. The elevator is dangerous at anything less than probably about 60% throw of 3/16. almost turned it into a lawn dart
didnt really care for the elevator set up..this needs some improvement some how in the kit design. i even followed the addendum to the letter. This provided the least amount of resistance but still some preload. I sanded the hinge gaps and the ailerons were free but this elevator has a bump over center that is due to a warped Horizontal stabilizer.
not a ton of room. the esc actually ended up on the other side. with a tiny piece of Velcro to hold down battery connector when connected to prevent interference with aileron P rods BUT NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL.
added the skids per manual
C of G came out perfect with no added weight and a 2200 nano tec
spinner base interfered with the mounting screws so i trimmed it down and chamferred the edge.
very nice spinner fittment after turning down the spinner base

and two on a parkzone p51 for some flying around the hose,worked really well contrary to the reviews.I guess some people just dont want to look under the files tab, the windows movie maker however ruind the HD of the video

Well got a lot of stuff going on rc wise...but yesterday had a pop in the flight of my raptor and somehow belw a hole in the piston.. Autoed into the beans and bent the flybar and snap a short linkage ...
