As someone who is relatively new to the hobby, I see planes and I go, "I bet I can fly that". I'm correct most of the time with planes like the Eflite P-39 and Flightline bearcat, but I do this to jets way more than any other plane there is. So about six months ago, I picked up my first jet, that being the FMS f-35 64mm lightning II, because it looked cool, and it didn't break the bank coming in at $149.99.

Packaging-The plane came to me very well packaged, there was nothing lose, and everything was wrapped like a Christmas gift

Build- So I have a couple of thing to say here, so the overall build was really straight ford, the instructions were nice and down to the point, no beating around the bush. The wing screws were a little hard to do, but they did go in and they held in very nicely. So the horizontal stabilizer is in two pieces, and where glued into place short and simple, they where adjusted up to a 5 degree angle and that was very easy. The vertical stabilizers also glue into place, but there isn't really anything to say here because they don't move. So here is where I had some issues, and that is with the front nose wheel, so the booklet doesn't explain what screw head to use, and when you have a screw that small , it sucks trying to use the wrong screw driver, anyway, it uses a small hex head screwdriver to go into place, and when you're done use Loctite on it.(trust me

Quality-So this is where the plane loses some points, so the plane's quality...Continue Reading

Here we are again ,
A classic north Easter roars through to our south giving us a couple of inches of wet heavy snow and 2 days of favorable wind
I passed on the first day of flying,by this time in the year I am ready for some warmer temps and sun while flying also the forecast called for higher wind and temps on the second day.
Out we go ,good wind {20 to 30 +mph} and sunshine as we walked up the hill .......
Oh Ya that's right- This is New York in April ...

3 Hours on the hill ,7 planes flown and trimmed, Lot's of fresh air and flying
7 day's to the Glider Games

Greetings Earthlings,

I’m Craig and this is my first attempt at building a tailless aircraft, from scratch, and from balsa...

I have built other balsa models from kits.

The wingspan is close to 20’ and is only 1/2 scale of the original I would like to build. This one is merely going to be a flying model to get practice and ensure it flies, before I fly the full-scale aircraft I’m designing - of 40 feet!

Any advice / constructive criticism is highly sought after. As I said before, first time building a tailless aircraft.

My military aviation mechanic background, research and common sense can only take me so far.

I will be posting up pictures of my progress.

Eventually, I will be installing a system that will have the Phoenix being autonomous; amongst a few other things that I will disclose at a later date.

I used an old Clouds Fly that was missing a canopy, RX and ESC to test a Timber RX that was in a crash. The CF airframe was in good shape but the prop was being retained with a prop saver fitting in front and aft of the prop. This worked until the third flight when the aft prop saver departed the prop shaft and I lost the prop. Fortunately I was able to glide back to my launching area. I’ve replaced the prop saver by using a collet. There is no more vibration and the prop should stay on.

The AR636 Timber receiver is stock and has not been unlocked. I made a belly hatch and mounted it using 3M Dual Lock. This makes it easy to remove for plug inserting and checking and is solid. I don’t use fuzzy velcro because the gyros/sensors see movement and interferes with pitch and roll leveling. I had to use a servo reverser on the aileron channel 2 and on the rudder. I could have moved servo and horns around to eliminate the reversers but use the RX in another aircraft that may not even need reversers.

The RX has had no problems flying out to around 1200 feet where the CF is very small and hard to see. With SAFE On she is very easy to fly and with SAFE Off she can do standard rolls and loops. Surprisingly CF handles 10-15 mph winds just fine using a 2200 3S for added weight and CG. I use Flight Modes and use up elevator trim for Thermal Mode and just rudder. CF will tip stall so I will reduce the amount of up elevator to prevent any onset of a stall....Continue Reading

Xtar FC2 charger (3 min 8 sec)

Xtar FC2 Charger - Made available for review by Xtar

A) Uses USB input ( 5v 2A )

B) Can charge one battery at 2A or two batteries at the lower 1A and 0.5A settings . ( dependent on USB power supply )

C) Starts charging at constant current till ( at or close to ) 4.2 volts it switches to constant voltage ( 4.2v ) and begins to drop the charge rate .

D) LED's flashing indicate the battery is being charged - when they all go solid the battery is charged .

The build quality on the FC2 looks to be excellent and the sliders are put together to a very high standard . The sliders slide flawlessly and just feel really nice compared to chargers made 10 or 15 years ago ( They still be out there ) . I have only charged a few batteries so far but !

A) The batteries are coming off the charger at room temperature ( 0.5A charge rate )

B) It does look like the batteries are terminating at 4.2v and depending on their quality and age will determine final resting voltage .

There will be more to this review ( updated ) , after I charge more batteries .

AA Update !

I spent the entire day ( April 20 ) charging AA batteries and some AAA . I have some dedicated AA chargers and they are brutal on the AA batteries , by that I mean the AA can come off the charger seriously hot . Heat is bad , and these dedicated AA chargers are just killing weaker AA . I am talking about charging at the lower...Continue Reading

Oh man !
It has been - years !
Butt !! Time to check my batteries .
Xtar sent me two chargers to review and that put me on a battery checking mission .

I - Didn'y know - I had so many Zippy 350 ( I guess I dont need to buy any more )
Also , I have a few Nanotech 300 2s - Hmmm . I guess I could try one out in the UMX TT . Why am I going out and only running one battery ? , when I could could be doing 2 or three ? I might have to take more than one battery with me .

So , yes ! Time to check my batteries . Most are ok , some need a voltage bump to keep storing them and I found a few not worth keeping .
( The great battery purge of 2021 ) Yeah , quite a few 18650 and 16340 might be long for this world .
Only have 20 or so batteries needing a top up ( only ) and I haven't checked them all yet . ( Lipo ) .

Batteries - batteries and more batteries ...
