Hi All, this week after my video and posts on RCG and other placed CaddX and DJI have stated they will no longer be encrypting camers that are not licenced for use with the DJI FPV System on the CaddX Vista.

If anyone's want to know in's and outs of all this and how it happened I explained it here in my update video on the situation.

DJI Digital FPV & CaddX Update - No Camera Encryption & Canvas Mode To Come
DJI Digital FPV & CaddX Update - No Camera Encryption & Canvas Mode To Come (11 min 10 sec)

A few last comments on this all from me.

This is the 3rd time I have been at the eye of the storm on this and im pleased and proud we all have been able to get a result here. For me this was never about pinning it to DJI or upsetting CaddX, it was my open and honest thoughts on what I felt was just wrong. If it was not for you guys commenting and sharing the statement I put out and the video we would never have got the result.

While I may have been the mouth piece you were the guys that made it happen period.

As I have said already there were lots of messages back and forth with both companies after I put everything out and both sides were really friendly, I was glad I was also play a small part to help on the Canvas thing too and I will talk about that more some time if it actually come to fruition.

There is a hell of a lot more I could say on this and how it played out as there are some things im a little 'hmm' about on the whole thing however im going to leave it and I now intend to get back to trying to do what I love to do and leave some of the politics behind for a while, my intention on all of these 3 times now we have got a result was never to become a PITA but to help the community and that's what we have done.

I finally want to thank everyone for the kind words and comments and all that's left to say is outstanding work all.

Having slept on it I came up with a plan B for the construction of the longerons.
I wanted a greater cross sectional area (csa) and also wanted to be able to contain the whiplash forces that frequently arise when landing on our not so smooth strip.
I've attached a pic which kinda shows my plan .
Building the longerons like this also gives the advantage of having outward facing wood for the solartex to adhere to.
I also changed the adhesive from gorilla glue pu to cyano as gorilla glue is dissolved by cyano in my experience so this choice allows me to use thick cyano to glue the longerons, braces, formers and stringers in without having to worry about contamination.
There'll be more shortly.

Making progress with my very ambitious project to design and make my own outboard. In a few weeks I have learned how to use a cad drawing program, mainly from watching you tube videos. I was forced to do it myself as it would have been too much , timewise to get someone else to do it. It's been very enjoyable I did lots of practice drawings to learn the skills.
My next ambition is to find the funds for a 3d printer, then learn how to use it. Watch this space.
My outboard is going to be a good size maybe 11" top to bottom , it will have a large powerful brushless motor, 40 x 80. 1600 kv
Batteries will be 2 x 3s giving 6s power . The top gearbox bearing and oilseal will be removable so I can do oil changes, this will save having fill and drain holes and the plugs. It will be filled with hypoid gear oil like the full size. I hope the helical gears will be quieter and have a good lifespan.

I’ve been watching the EAA AirVenture air shows on YouTube, using my big TV with the YT app. In one of them they had an extended demonstration of 5he Goodyear blimp. This one is a new design to my eyes. I remember the one that had regular aircraft engines on pods near the gondola. This one has three electric motor powered props that move as needed. It appears there is a engine powered generator at the back of the gondola. It is also a sleeker gas bag than previous and only has three stabilizers instead of the four I remember.

So it’s a giant multi rotor supported by the neutral buoyancy balloon.

Here’s a picture my friend Lee Ray posted on FB

It's been over two years since I wrote here, tbh with all that's been going on I haven't done much modelling wise.
Now I have several airframes to repair, a sig 1/5 scale cub, a hangar 9 1/5 scale cub, a modeltech 1/4 scale cub ( I like cubs!) and an airframe I bought of a scaled up Ruhig Tiger.
This is the plane I'm hoping to repair.
The original design was published as a plan in one of the UK magazines in the 70s I think, a 60" span sport aerobat, low, thick wing fixed u/c for a 45 two stroke.
The designer made some rough drawings of the scaled up version at 72" span but regrettably died before he could build it. His widow gave the drawings to one of his friends who copied them and gave them to one of his friends who built the airframe.
He got about 90% of it built when he decided enough was enough and I bought the whole kit and caboodle off him.
I finished the airframe without the benefit of plans though I had some reservations about some of the timber. I covered it as an american trainer very much like the PT 19 and it had a royal blue fuselage, yellow wings and stab and candy striped rudder.
The reservations I had were with regard to the longerons which were very soft balsa but I persevered and had several flights until one day it ground looped and the subsequent whiplash effect shattered the rear fuselage which was a box like structure of longerons, cross braces and stringers.
I made several plans over the years for the repair including buying some 6mm square carbon fibre tube but today I sliced some 1/8 x 1/4 from a sheet of 1/8 ribstock balsa and have 6mm x 0.8mm by 750mm carbon strip that I intend to laminate together the form the main longerons.
I've started this blog so it will encourage me to get on and do it as it's my 77th birthday in a week or so and I want to fly it on that day.
I've added a pic of the components for one of the longerons so it'll give you an idea

Hi fellow rc pilots & rc enthusiasts

WOW, I could not believe how lucky I was when I watched this video recorded on the sd card. In waypoint mode I lost sight and then also fpv ??? Hit the RTH button and it came back. I should have taken this up to 30 meters in the first place and I am grateful that it did return :-)

I discovered OuterZone.co.uk when I first returned to the hobby in 2012. OZ was still fairly new, and I ended up volunteering to help clean and or redraw some of the plans that had been submitted. Long story short, one of the plans that I redrew was "The Irresistible Plank", a large flying wing from the late 1970's (MAN Jan. 1979). I never built it........well until now.....I've been searching for something different to build, so I'm going to give this one a try. Other projects are on hold for now....The original aircraft had a 110" WS.....gonna scale it down to ~ 72", and make it a powered glider...stay tuned

Over the winter months and due to pandemic restrictions giving lots of pass time I decided to do up a an ARF. I already had the electronics from a deceased Extra. This would be my second attempt at adding weathering. Pics are at various stages. Pilot was repainted from the kit, paint chipping added, motor detail, weathering and a change to the canopy. F6Fs from this squadron did not have the rear window so it was filled in to make it correct. I used 3 Hellcat books for reference.

Back in 1957, Eddie Pope & Company sold a DYO-X1000 and DYO-X2000 aluminum flying wind model airplane. From poking around on the internet, it looks like this plane may be something of a collector's item. Eddie Pope was my dad, and I have one DYO-X1000 and two DYO-X2000s (the 2000 is larger) that I recently found in storage. I think they are all used, but in good condition (the DYO-1000 has a few minor dents, but I don't see any dents in the others - I have no idea about whether the motors work). I only have one box, and it's kind of beat up, but still shows all the relevant info. I have two sets of instructions, and one provided string.

I would like to sell these, but have no idea what they are worth (or, for that matter, how to sell them other than eBay). I did find one old (2015) add offering to sell one DYO-X1000 for $499, but the box was in better shape than mine.

Attached is a picture of one of the DYO-X2000s (in jpg).

Does anyone have any idea what these would be worth, or how if might find that out.

This is how the Costa Mesa Electric Flying Field looks like after one year of closure ...

The environmental activists running the CM Fairview Park commission managed to get the field closed, claiming it affected birds and wildlife.

Now the city of CM (113,159 people according to 2019 census) has no more opportunity for RC plane flying, or any other recreational activity - except bird and wildlife watching

The pictures below, taken last week on 7/12/2021 around noon, show how well used this resource has become ...

The complete closure - except the above listed activities - affects around 208 acres, the overall size of Fairview Park :

https://www.costamesaca.gov/residents/fairview-park

The pictures below show how the environmentalist activists managed to turn this beautiful field into what is largely an environmental wasteland ...

Note that not a single soul is to be seen walking around, at least not when I was there.
