A flight of fancy into the future

Gone are the days when drones were used only for security and for patrolling remote areas, or using them for cinematic production or capturing breathtaking panoramic photographs. Its about time we break the bubble and introduce you to the drones of the future. Welcome to the golden age of hassle free travel. Yes, we are referring to the new highly sophisticated and autonomous drones of the future. These modern marvels are all hybrid powered, which make them more powerful than the commercial drones which use the conventional battery to power them up. This hybrid technology provides a high level of energy security through a mix of methods, which in short, is equivalent to a super battery. This increases the endurance of the machines as they have been designed to work under extreme conditions and to lift heavy materials. Surely, these machines appear to be right out of a Hollywood Science fiction blockbuster.

Urban air travel, passenger drones for civilian travel? Too good to be true? Well, this is now a reality. Drone technology has made huge strides in the recent past. Not very long ago, drones were only robots remotely controlled by a pilot, often they were referred to as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). However, things are quite different now. Drone technology has undergone rapid changes and is making very steady progress; shall we say by leaps and bounds?

Imagine journeys that are several times faster than any other mode of...Continue Reading

Hey folks,

A few years ago I followed Flights instructions on how to install a Habu SAFE receiver in a UMX Pitts, and it allowed me to fly the Pitts with a reasonable degree of control in spite of my lack of skill. The Habu SAFE receiver was mounted vertically in the Habu, so it also had to be mounted vertically in the Pitts, and while it was a bit of extra work, it was most worthwhile to have the use of SAFE.

After the release of the Cessna 182 with SAFE Select a year or two ago, it became obvious its brick could now be mounted horizontally in the Pitts instead of doing the vertical installation with the Habu brick. I just installed another Cessna brick in a second Pitts and thought I would document the procedure for others who may want to do the same.

To remove and replace the Pitts brick, the top half of the fuselage must be removed between the front of the cockpit and about a half inch in front of the tail. This section of fuselage is a separate piece and is held in place by tape only along the horizontal side lines, while a small amount of glue was used on the fore and aft surfaces. An X-Acto knife will cut the tape along the horizontal quite easily along with the vertical tape near the tail section. The vertical joint in front of the cockpit, however, is more awkward, and the knife blade will have to cut through the foam. Cut lines are the same on each side of fuselage; take your time, and it will come away clean.

At this point, you now have access...Continue Reading

The light weight spackle collapses a little after drying. It is challenging to make the final finish perfectly match with original surface. Here is my approach:
Material list:
  • Polyurethane glue such as Gorilla glue (either brown or white, I normally use brown)
  • small plastic piece slightly larger than target area, make sure medium flexibility
  • masking tape
  • paper towel for cleaning up

1. apply small amount of moisted glue
2. place the plastic piece over the target area, make sure this piece is just a little larger than the target area
3. use masking tape keep the plastic piece on the surface, waiting for curing. Keep an eye on the expanding glue under the plastic piece, clean away any protruding glue along the edges.

If the new surface is still not perfect, then either repeat the above procedure or fill with light weight spackle.

If the area is not too big to fix, and the model can handle a little gained weight, just regular spackle will do the job, giving you smoother and tougher finish.

Yep Les Amis,
Mais jusqu'o s'arrteront ils ??? LOL ... Bon Film tous .. Et bon vol.

Eachine TYRO129 - Review Test Démo - Racer 7" avec GPS à 100€ !!! (35 min 58 sec)

Use. Code NIGELSHEFFIELD for 15% off.

https://bit.ly/2KmRwS9

I used QWinOut a few times already and they're prices and service is great, cheaper than banggood and good communication.
They were xt-xinte but this site has free postage and no PayPal charges and STILL cheap prices.

I just received my full speed toothpick pro which costs $106 with the discount link above.

Lots of good stuff there and I think will be using them a lot from now on. (bviously checking banggood prices too lol )

FMS 800 V tail maiden (8 min 32 sec)

FMS 800 V tail
Flying weight 156 grams
CG @ 40mm from L/E
Nanotech 370mAh 2s
FS2A micro Rx (4ch)

1) FMS 800 V tail
Flew off the board so to speak , no rates / no expo .
The model does need some down elevator trim , but I will take care of that next time with some sub trim .
Most of the flight was about 50% throttle .

2) CG
The CG ended up being about 40mm from the L/E . Instruction manual say's 35mm and I would say that was a fair call .
At 40mm it's not overly sensitive ( no rates - no expo ) . But the model does turn tight .

3) Nanotech 370 2s
This is the battery I chose , it was doing nothing !
8 and a half minutes of flight and my battery checker say's 40% battery left . ( Mostly 50% throttle )

4) Flying weight ( 156 grams )
Originally it was 154 grams , but I needed to stuff some weight up the models bee hive to get a better CG than 25mm from the L/E
Love the weight , it simply allows the FMS 800 V tail to fly really slow . Once the elevator is trimmed so that the model does not climb but rather holds straight and level . It will be a joy to fly slow .

5) Stability
Yes and no . It is very stable . But that straight wing does effect roll stability . So attention is needed , and no - it's not really a hands off model . No where as bad as say the MG800 , but not as good as say a Firstar 200 .

6) Propeller
Yeah , not the best - that's for sure !
Yes you can fly @ 50% throttle , but not much less than that as...Continue Reading
