So I've decided to add a Vector flight controller and switch from 5.8 GHz to 1.3 GHz video on my Crash Test Hobby Gladiator wing.

The last of my parts showed up today, so now I can tear into my Gladiator and start replacing parts!

I've never flown a fixed wing with a flight controller before. It feels quite a bit more daunting to me for some reason. I've flown a few multi-rotors with flight controllers that would be comparable to the Vector, so there is that, but again, feels different with a fixed wing.

Weird.

Anyways, doing a TON of research on the Vector to make sure I don't screw this up. Thinking I'll have to read the manual about ten times to absorb everything! LOL!

Pictured parts:
  • VAS 1.3 GHz Pepperbox
  • Eagle Tree Vector flight controller
  • Airspeed sensor to Vector
  • VAS 1.3 GHz Cloverleaf antenna
  • 1.3 GHz 400 mW VTx
  • Eagle Tree Eagle Eyes FPV groundstation
  • RMRC 1.3 GHz VRx
  • FrSky Taranis Plus

We had one day here in Iowa without wind last month. So the Gladiator, Wifey and I went flying. Had a bunch of bugs to workout before I pulled down the goggles, but everything checked out. I'm pretty certain that with warmer weather, it was only 48 degrees still, that I could have flown for almost 45 minutes with my 10,000mAh worth of batteries. Also, this is my first video adding music and putting the OSD footage in as well using Adobe Premier Pro CC. I've never used PP before, so it was a steep learning curve as well. For those interested, I decided to take a class online that taught PP. It's an awesome class that starts with beginners and gets fairly advanced. The teacher does an awesome job and I'd give this class a 5 out of 5. Head over to Udemy.com and search for "Adobe Premier Pro CC". There are 18 hours worth of videos! I bought it for $10 during a year end sale. Good stuff!

So I've been meaning to post this for a few months now. I've put two CTH Assassins together already and the shock cord is a necessity, yet pain in the @$$. I saw on some previous post in the Assassin or Gladiator forums where a guy used straw to install his shock cord. Great idea! I didn't have a straw. So when I started to put my Gladiator together back in December, this is what I found that made my shock cord install super quick and easy.

1. Dissassemble pen.
2. Insert shock cord through end
3. Install easy peasy!

So for my Birthday this past November, my Wife had this made for me. I don't have a heated garage, and since I live in Iowa, winters can be down right brutal here (like right now!). My basement is finished, so I kind of took over the whole basement family room with planes, multirotors and electronic parts and tools everywhere. It was a mess! My lovely Bride is a kitchen/bath/cabinet designer and here is what she came up with for maximum storage, work space and pleasing aesthetics. Feel free to drop her a note if you are interested over at:

So far I have built two CTH Assassins. Now I just need to find some folks to fly with for some combat/night flying.

Currently working on building my CTH DRXL/Gladiator that will be my first FPV wing.
