Trying out a Dualsky GA6000-8 on the Flight-Models 93" Extra 330 SC. Motor has more power than the previous setup still using the same prop, Falcon Carbon 25.5 x 13. For a $250 motor this is a no-brainer!

Have been test printing a number of items on the new MarkForged 3D composite printer and WOW! Prints in nylon and can add fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber into the part as well as voids for nuts, rods, plates etc. and then prints over the top of them. I must say the resolution compared to my Wanhao 5s printer is much better not that the 5s is a bad printer by any means. The MarkForged doesn't have as big a build area as the 5s but it makes up for it. Never printed in nylon before and the parts it has printed so far seem much more durable than PLA, ABS or carbon PLA . I've had some PLA parts fail where the nylon does not. Unfortunately they haven't gotten the carbon fiber spools for us yet but even with the fiberglass imprinted into the part it makes for a stiffer build. Currently experimenting with parts to see what works best. Since these are the first of their kind on the market it seems we're beta testing as there isn't much data yet on how everyone's parts are turning out. The company tests show the carbon reinforced parts are stronger than T-6061 aluminum! I'm going to start testing some gimbals I printed to see if the nylon absorbs vibrations better than aluminum or carbon plate versions. I suspect nylon/carbon will be better at diminishing vibration and still retain stiffness. Also working on a 250 FPV racer frame and arms to see how much punishment they can take. Made the epic 1000 mile journey from Orlando Fl. to Muncie Ind. for the 2015 AMA NATS RC Aerobatics Championship! Finally got to accompany Blake Hilson on his quest for a 2nd NATS title. I'm quite sure he'll do very well judging by the amount of electrons he's burned over the last few months. Never been to the AMA headquarters before. Got to check out the museum and flying field today. I'll post a lot more pics and some video later this week as it all occurs. Lots of talented thumbs here! Also got to check out a couple of local AMA fields for practice sessions. Like to give a shout out to the Glass Capitol Prop Twisters for letting us get some valuable tuning/practice sessions in. Out in the middle of farmland there's an abandoned naval station they've made a lovely flying field. Also drove past a lot of windmills that we didn't expect. Pretty cool! Blake wanted to try a larger differently positioned T-wing on his Epic. So get out the foam, wood and carbon and lets see what happens. After doing some material experimentation for weights, decided to go with Polycrylic water based spray on 1/2oz glass with some carbon matte on the trailing edges for stiffness. Epoxy was a nicer more durable finish but with weight at a premium, it lost. Got each one to about 32 grams apiece and kept the whole setup as lite as possible. Just added some covering for color on top and painted yellow and blue scheme on bottom then some clear cote. After the first flight, Blake noted improved rudder authority, slighty better tracking with the stiffer SFG's. It's about as good as it gets before NATS. Good luck!...Continue Reading

Haven't attended since '09 and '15 was just as fun! Got to meet a lot of new faces and see some old one's as well. Hats off to the Fayette Flyers and Mac Hodges of course for the facilities and all the hard work that goes into putting an EPIC event like this together. I'm an electric wingnut and there's no place to be better than this for every kind of electric powered flying vehicle (or surface vehicles that hit terra firma). Also met a talented local 3D pilot Alex Barron. Blake let him run a few packs thru the Yak-55m and he had a blast with it. Also hats off to the fellow camped next to us on the 3D flightline-Jason and his 3 yr. old son Carson. I'm sure that little dude will always remember his pop took him to these events. It's a great way to get the young ones involved in a wonderful hobby.

Sorry about the weather in the rest of the country but it was 72 deg. sunny , no clouds and the wind was light right down the runway. That's why we live here! The day previous was a windy disaster but everyone soldiered through the day and Sun. was a vast improvement weatherwise. I didn't make it out the first day but I'm glad I took the day off to support the pattern community. Plus I got a much needed break from building and got to relax and unwind a little.

Kudos to Steve H. the CD and all volunteers and RCACF for hosting. He always does an excellent job of running the event and everything went smoothly. Since it was such an nice finishing day no one seemed to care what position they were in, just glad to be out flying with friends and getting a good sunburn! Powering this bird with a Hacker Q80-7/Castle Creations ICE 160HV/MKS 777's all around get steering duties. Spektrum 7610 RX. Zippy Compact 6s 5800mah 40c x2 and a TP 3300mah 25c 7.4v RX pack for power.

Comes shipped in a cardboard "coffin" LOL. Nice packing job. Unfortunately cowl incurred some damage in shipping and JB Hobbies was on the ball and shipped a replacement quickly. Thanks Jim! Construction is excellent and build quality is right up there with the best. All hardware is actually usuable which is a suprise as I usually pitch most hardware and use heavy duty everything to ensure no mid flight suprises. I'm still waiting on the only 4" "fan cooling" spinner I could find in the world, a Mejzlik carbon spinner with cooling holes and a fan base plate for max cooling. I also like to go over all the vital spots with some med CA and Hysol around the LG plates and motor mount. This plane will more than likely do a few harrier landings, so just for some added insurance against the walk of shame. These are some tricks I've learned along the way to ensure a long airframe life of abus...er heavy flying. Will post some more build pics and of course some vids as soon as they are available. Planning on having some fun @ SEFF with this plane among others. So if you're attending then come on down and check it out!

Just got around to messing with my Q500. First thing I had to do was get rid of the top white shell. I just don't see white that well on certain days so I got out the flourescent yellow paint. Much better on grey days and low light conditions for me. I'll be using mine a lot to video our 3D and pattern plane designs in flight. I also plan on making some after market parts for this series. After working at one of the worlds busiest hobby shops and watching how these last about 2 min. on the shelves', I think this is going to be one of the most popular "out of the box drones". It's so smooth I'll let my wife fly it and she's only flown an Ominus before. I'll post some more vids as soon as we shoot them. Very nice ARF from CPLR and 3d-fly.com! Excellent construction,design and hardware. Nice fan spinner and carbon LG included. Got some JR 3711HV's, and a 8411HV for rudder. Scorpion 4025-440kv, OS 100amp ESC, Falcon Carbon 17 x 10 prop and going to try a couple of Lectron Pro 50c 22.2v 5200mah packs out. They weigh in @ 23oz. I'm going to use Robart pin hinges instead of CA hinges though. Can't stomach CA hinges on such a nice plane. Heck, I even use pin hinges on foamies(head hung in shame...not!)...I'll post some more pics and vids as they become available...

Trying to nail down the final changes for the new Yak 55M Pro design. We decided to up the ante on the old 6mm Yak Lite(that's what we're calling it temporarily). We've decided to upsize the original 42" version so folks could use up to 2200mah packs and make it larger for better overall stiffness and wind penetration. Also kudos to Bill Clark for the awesome landing gear mold! Bagged up a test set for the Yak and they look sharp with the spats and actually lend to the bling effect! As well as weighing about 13gr. each this is a bonus. Plus we don't want unwanted flexing with wire gear so we don't ding that nice Falcon carbon 13 x 6.5! We also tried the MKS DS6100 servos out on this model and with the new stiffening and super servo torque this plane flies sweet! Blake says it's kind of like flying a plywood profile plane! LOL More testing to come. CG needs some adjustment and thrust angle was a little off. After some corrections it will fly even better...

[FONT="Arial Black"]Just what we've been asking for- a full fuse/wing pattern bipe foamie. Now you can practice your pattern work in a small park setting if you can't make it to the field with the 2meter plane. Needs 4s setup if you want some vertical power throughout the flight. A nice Falcon 12-13 x 6.5 or wood equivolent goes a long way to providing good pattern and the occasional aeromusical/3D flying. Installed a nice Cobra 2820-14 and a Castle Creations ICE 50 ESC for power. The light Glacier 30c 1800mah 4s packs seem to be the ticket for getting the CG perfect and having just the right cubic loading. A nice large checkerboard pattern will be painted on the bottom surfaces later for better visual. It can also do a limited amount of 3D if so inclined!

Here's a few pics of the CNC shed going up. Got a JCUT 4' x 8' x 12" z- axis router. Has a 6hp head. Should be able to cut all kinds of materials with it. Wooo-woooo!!! Once I get the structure up and electical hooked up then have to go over the machine and make sure all bolts are locktited and the electrical gone over with some Corrosion X for some preventative maintenance measures. Then calibration and table surface milling. Also has a dust collection system and vacuum table setup. Wanted a versatile machine to cut a host of projects from 2m pattern planes,3D planes, foamies, multirotor frames, heli parts, up to and including speaker cabinets, car parts, molds, parts, etc. This is going to be one busy machine!

Great job Doug and friends! Excellent event. If this is the second year, then next year should be even bigger. I would guess at least 50 vehicles parked and lots of folks camping out. Sorry non Floridians-this is why we live here-perfect sunny 77 deg. temps and light to no wind!! Got some sun and had some fun checking out everyones' setups and some new products for the store.


Got one suggestion-set up a big screen TV with a reciever hooked up and maybe a hood on it so everyone who isn't tuned in with a screen or goggles can get look at what's being broadcast. This will be one of Blakes pattern stable-Mythos 125e. Recommended 6s setup sounds nice for non windy conditions but an 8s setup would be preferable for competition. Never fails-contest day is good for 20mph winds(at least!). Blake already found out the hard way a 6s setup on a windy contest day is a recipe for a smoked ESC. Taking that into consideration, got Ken @ Subsonicplanes.com to wind a Motrofly 5320-277kv to swing up to a 20.5" x 14" (if need be) on 8s. Motor came in @ 19.2oz and the bolt pattern matches the existing firewall T-nuts. Immaculate work on the windings. Nice wire diameter and spacing. Also got upgraded set of ceramic bearings. Sweeet! Can use the Jeti Spin 99 Pro for downline braking. Using some light 25c 4500mah packs should keep the weight about the same as a 6s 5000 (65c) pack. Our buddy Bill reports 8min flights on his 8s Wind 110 using 3850mah 8s packs. So this setup should keep it within the recommended weight and still have tons of power. Blake reported that Bills' setup has plenty of power and everything comes down cool to the touch. Blake will also use JR 3711HV's and some as yet undetermined HV rudder servo. Should be a sweet setup with no reg's and switches to fail. Keeps the weight down too. Will post more pics and some vid as soon as it's available.

EDIT: Takes 1/2" standoffs and 2 nylon washers to space motor properly. Sweet! Bolts right up. This motor is also a candidate for Blakes Delro Opium. Need to drop to KV to 225...Continue Reading

Starting a log for the 34" Vizion F3P. 3mm gediplac(Aerofoam) milled and all non stress areas are cut out. Will be mylared over with 2micron clear. Trying to make 3.92oz with a 13gr. MicroDan F3P/Hyperion 2s 180/Castle 10/D47's. Will use all lightening techniques to make the weight as Sergej said it will ruin the efficiency of his nice carbon props. Here's a few vids and pics of Blakes new Sebart Wind 110. Will hopefully get some pattern vids soon too. These flights were flown with the 3D stabs in place instead of the anhedralled pattern stabs. Thanks to Danny Sanders for shooting some pattern vid of the 42" Vizion. Looks like it tracks very well. That's our new company motto " FLY SMOOTH"!

I'll post some more vid when it becomes available and also any news once we get some production models ready. For those of you that have been wanting one and patiently waiting(us too!), found a CNC service and will try and get a good first production run of the Vizion 34" and 42" along with the
42" Yak-55m. Bipe-X will follow shortly thereafter. I will be starting a build thread once this occurs so please be patient while things come together. Again, thanks for the interest.
