Been playing with the lay out and trying to guesstimate the CG as best as possible .

Fuse is not covered as I need finger access to the guts .

If I were to build one for Flying purposes ( Not pushing a 18650 into the equation )

Than a 1103 would not be out of the question and a 300mAh 2s and 100 grams + off thrust . For 1:1 or better .

I expect the finished weight to be a little over 150 grams ..

Power to weight ? Not that great !

We will see ! Gona be a long wait till we can recreational exercise ..

I was thinking about my very first radio, a Cirrus 4-channel from Hobby Shack. I purchased it in 1974, for a cost of $150, plus whatever the tax rate was back then. Looking at the US Inflation Calculator, that would be $784 dollars today. Plus the tax.

4-channels. No dual rate. No expo. No servo reversing. No LCD screen. No computer. No mixing. No programming. No software. No adjustable gimbal sticks.

Yes, it cost a lot more of your hard earned money to get into RC back in the day then it does now.

Sometimes, I just don't want to bring a bigger plane to the field. Sometimes, I just want to return to my RC roots. And for that reason today is why I chose my old UMX Beast 3D to take to the field.

Purchased in 2014, and the third plane I've ever flown in my fleet. Prior to the UMX Beast 3D, I flew the UMX Champ to teach me basic 3-channel flight.. and later on, the UMX F4U Corsair for 4-channel orientation. I flew those two planes for the first year of flying RC. But in the second year, I took a chance on the UMX Beast 3D. It was my first aerobatic ultra micro. I have a lot of respect for this old biplane as in my earlier RC days, there were a lot of close narrow margin saves while I was still learning its agility (it's too bad that I don't have a flight video of my earlier days with this bipe.. comparing my flights back then, to now would have been something cool to compare). Using Fusion 360
Fusion 360 is quite a powerful and flexible package, but there is also a fair amount to learn and it can be a bit confusing at times. There are often several different ways of achieving the same result, even various ways of accessing the same tools/menus through multiple entry points in the user interface. After many iterations and trying various approaches, I found the following workflow and tools to be useful:
Canvases - this allows you to import images to be used as a reference while you work. You can move/rotate/scale them and assign them to a plane, and also adjust their opacity. I used them for the imported 3 view and cross section drawings but also for photographs (eg. the airfoil of the horizontal stab). This is a good first step to get these set up.
Construction sketches/planes - the canvases above are meaningful to you but not part of the Fusion world, so you need to create points, lines and planes that you can refer to later on. In any sketch (2d drawing) you can designate things to be deemed 'construction' to be used as a reference, rather than 'normal' (as part of whatever you are building). I recommend building lots of construction items upfront, even if you don't end up using them. You can do this later and move them around in the timeline, but will find it easier if this is done early on.

Spent this afternoon cleaning up the wings on this C G Electra. Used a rotary tool to drill out the glued balsa pieces in the center of the wings and added an aluminum strip cut from a soda can, well-sanded. Scratchbuilt 3/4” wingtips. After touching up some gaps with lightweight spackling, I sanded it thoroughly, but carefully, with 80 grit sandpaper. Cracked two ribs, not mine thank the Lord, but they CA’d back in place just fine. Working with a 30+ yr.-old, brittle, 78” 100% balsa and ply wingspan was an experience.
