Glue & Fly Series - F-22 Mini V3(A) Development Status #5 - Beta Plans are Ready!

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoCapFOOR4Q

The Alpha Build of this Parkjet has proven it to be an excellent Flying Parkjet!
Changes have been made to the Build Plans to make it easier to build and more precise in the assembly and that's due to the great suggestions from e3Scott, my Co-Pilot in Crime on this project ;-)
I have also modified the Beta Plans to make the Nacelles a bit more scale, make the weight a bit more concentrated horizontally now that I know what size batteries I'm going to recommend for this Parkjet, and switch out the 5 gram servos for 9 gram servos as per e3Scott's recommendation.
If I haven't made any mistakes or regressions in the Plans I'm hoping the Beta Build will end up being our release build, however, it will only be released when I think it's ready.
Stay tuned for more updates and the Maiden Flight of the Beta Build of this Parkjet.

Field Test - RacerStar BR2406S 2600kv Motor in our GFS F-22 Mini V3A

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtbrRXY5jrI

Well, I've been grounded for the past month due to weather.
Finally I have chance to test out this motor in our "Glue & Fly Series" F-22 Mini V3A!
Let's see how this motor performs compared to the RacerStar BR2207S 2500kv Motor that I have been using.

This motor provides very good thrust!
After my 4 minute flight the pack still had 11.4 volts or 3.8 volts per cell.
I should be able to get 6-7 minutes of flight time on this setup using my 3S 1000mah 40C LIPO.

Both motors I've tested so far are going to match up great for this Parkjet.

Here are links to both motors:

Field Test - HTIRC Hornet Series 20A ESC in our Glue & Fly Series F-22 Mini V2

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOOzHDxWDt0

I have wanted to do the Field Testing of this ESC for quite some now but the weather has had me grounded for the past month.
So I'm a bit rusty ;-)
The HTIRC Hornet Series 20A ESC provided good thrust and was very responsive, however, it exhibited the same behavior as the HTIRC Hornet Series 12A ESC.
It seems to lose it's ability to provide a completely linear throttle response.
It doesn't happen every time but when it does it spools up the motor slowly until you hit approx. 40% Throttle and then it dramatically increases the Throttle as though there is a power band.
Programming the ESC with the High and Low end of the Throttle again does not prevent this from happening.
Because of this behavior I cannot recommend the HTIRC Hornet Series of ESCs.

Review Update - AR5202-A Micro 4CH Receiver with 3-Axis Gyro & Brushless ESC

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cx38fL4snY

After having found some information on an RC Groups Discussion Thread regarding this board I was able to email an engineer regarding this board.
The answer I received was as I feared, you cannot correct the settings on this board without their proprietary software and a programming board and cable.
The board has their proprietary firmware installed with Elevon Mixing for a Wing!
This board is not suitable for anything other than a Wing!

Review - AR5202-A Micro 4CH Receiver with 3-Axis Gyro & Brushless ESC

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvBO9fMpPhU

I had a comment from a Subscriber that found this Micro Receiver and provided me with a link.
I went ahead and ordered one of these to perform another Brushless Conversion of a Micro Plane and this unit is not only a 4 Channel Receiver but has a built-in 3-Axis Gyro and a 4 amp Brushless Speed Controller.
It also operates on a 2S-3S LIPO ;-)
If this unit works well it will save a lot of space and a few grams of weight.
This is the initial review on the bench and if it works I'll perform the Brushless Conversion of my Micro Plane and take it on a Test Flight ;-)
Stay Tuned!

***I removed the links to this receiver and related equipment as this board has some issues ;-(

Tutorial - Volantex Ranger G2 - Fix that bad Thrust Angle

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7CbbKE4ff8

Well, this planes stock thrust angle is absolutely terrible.
It is so bad, in fact, that on my Maiden Launch the plane nosed in hard as though I had full down Elevator on the Plane.
I setup Flaperons and with Full Flaps and Full Up-Trim on the Elevator I was able to mitigate this bad Thrust angle but is that the best solution?
Now, I'm going to Modify the stock Thrust Angle to get it where it should have been from the start.
Watch this Tutorial and see how ;-)

Review Part 3 - RacerStar BR2208 1400kv Motor Thrust Test with Gemfan APC Style 8x4 Prop

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJtnRIOcxlk

This is a very inexpensive motor and I purchased it for $4.99 US
The Manufacturer's Stated Thrust Data is higher than what my Motor was able to provide with an 8x4 ABS Prop with a 3S LIPO.
That Prop may have been too flexible to provide the Thrust in the Manufacturer's Specs.
I had a comment on my initial Review & Thrust Test of this Motor and was told that the Motor performed better with a 9x5 Prop.
I purchased a couple of 9x5 Props to conduct this Thrust Test again and it did indeed provided much more Thrust.
Now, I have also purchased a Gemfan APC Style 8x4 Prop for testing ;-)
Let's see how it performs with this Prop and then I will state my conclusions again.

Glue & Fly Series - F-22 Mini V3(A) Development Status #4 - Nacelle MOD Testing

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrzwn7dtpHM

The Parkjet has a New Nacelle configuration to mitigate any possible airflow restriction due to the narrow design of the Original Nacelle.
This Test Flight is to validate or Invalidate the Modification to the Nacelle Design.
I don't want to forget to mention my Co-Pilot in Crime, e3Scott. He is also conducting Test Flights to Validate or Invalidate this MOD.
His Flight Testing of this Parkjet and the feedback he has provided not only on the Parkjet but also on the Build Plans has been invaluable.
With his help this Parkjet will be ready for release in half the time of me doing it alone.
Links to his Youtube Channel and Parkjet Blog are listed below and I urge you to go check them out ;-)

DustOff #8 - Tiny Whoop (E011) - My Backup Plan ;-)

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC9dGUq1ZvQ

I had intended to fly a couple of Parkjets today to Field Test the HTIRC Hornet 20A ESC in one of the Parkjets and Field Test the RacerStar BR2406S 2600kv Motor in the other, however, we have had quite a bit of snow the past couple of weeks and moisture turns the desert to Mud!

Luckily, I had a backup plan ;-)

RC Tip #22 - Troubleshooting Power Issues

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvhf6ZTEs7E

The Weather was terrible so I thought I would throw some batteries in my Tiny Whoop and have some fun doing some Indoor FPV Flying.
I started out by flying the Tiny Whoop via Line-Of-Sight just to check it out before putting on the FPV Goggles as I haven't flown it in Months.
Well, after the third circuit through the room the motors stopped and it dropped from the sky!
What is going on with my Tiny Whoop?
I'll explain all in the video...

Review & Test Flight - Turnigy NanoTech 3S 1000mAh 40C LIPO w/XT60

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvEAbP43wxM

I decided to buy a couple of these batteries to test out in our "Glue & Fly Series" F-22 Mini V3 Alpha Build.
I have a wide variety of LIPOs I've been using in this Parkjet, everything from a 800mah-1300mah 3S LIPO.
The 3S 800mah are very light and the 3S 1300mah are fairly heavy.
This LIPO should be in the Goldilocks zone ;-) Just Right ;-)
