I was inspired by the X-31 thrust paddles. They looked simple and effective. My goal is to make an EDF that truly capable of hovering like the turbines. The model will be the Freewing Mirage. It'a AUW is reported to be 2,200g. I'm installing the Schubeler 80mm fan set up for 6S. With 4,000g of thrust I just might make my goal. I'm going to make a test setup t dial this unit in. Shouldn't be too difficult to program with my 18MZ. It will use 4, 7g servos with 27 oz/in of torque each. I'm shooting for a complete system weight of 65.3g. I may remove the rudder servo as it will not be needed. The TV will work as well or better than the rudder and it will work at zero airspeed.

I put a thrust vectoring unit on my Avanti S. Hope to fly it soon. Should be fun.

The smoke canopy was just too dark. Glad I waited for the clear one.

Used my upside down water transfer decal trick to do a Maserati motif.

Having some fun. Made a virtual cockpit for my FW 80mm Avanti S EDF. The smoke canopy is too dark to see it very well so I will order a clear canopy when they are back in stock.

If you have ever wondered what the big deal is about S-Bus, this should give you a good idea.
The first photo I got off the net. It shows what the stock FW Scorpion 80mm set up looks like, what a mess and HEAVY!
The second photo is of my Scorpion with S-Bus. I used S-Bus decoders in the wings, the tail and the nose gear/ steering.
Much cleaner and much lighter.

Update on the Pico 90 degree rotating retracts. I gave up on the ball links. Too hard to set up right and adjust, too much friction as well. Decided to go in another direction. This works well. It's easy to adjust, light and friction free. Now I can slow the servo way down for a very scale retraction.

I made this from a GWS Pico retract unit that I modified. I cut the main axle in half and drilled all the way through the trunnion. This way I could run the strut all the way through and mount a 90 degree arm on it. Then connected a tiny ball link.

Well, I finally got around to flying the ASK21 with the EDF. I'm really happy with how she flew. There was no trim change with throttle which was a very welcome surprise. It doesn't have a lot of power but it will loop and roll. It flies fast because of its added weight but is still manageable. She's no floater and would need a boomer to thermal but that wasn't the point. it takes off from the ground and does touch and goes and that's what I wanted. You can't beat the cute factor.

So I'm at the local hobby shop and see the ASK 21 is on sale for $50.00. I couldn't resist. Now I know, I've had a couple friends tell me they are lame (hence the sale price) but I like a challenge. I had a spare EDF unit from a Habu that I'm souping up with a hot fan on 3s. So, I made an EDF pod for the ASK. I also stiffened the wing with more carbon. That's been everyone's biggest gripe, the wings are too weak. Not anymore. I removed the tow release servo and mounted a CC Thunderbird 6A ESC under the Rx. I powered the Rx with the BEC from the ESC through the ch5 port, which is now the throttle channel. This way I can run the system on 2S for the fan and everything else on 5v. Simple mod. The C.G. is @20mm, so should be OK. She came in at 95g total weight, about 22g over stock. Not bad for adding an ESC, Motor, Fan, Mount, Nacelle and an extra cell.
The nacelle I carved from pink foam, filled and painted. The mount has studs that pass through the wing and are secured on the underside with washers and nuts. The fan has 1.5 degrees of down thrust (or is it up thrust?) to counter the nose down pitching moment typical with a pod. A slit in the back of the canopy fairing allows removal with the pod in place.
Haven't flown it yet. Will let you know how it goes.

I've been working on some new colors. The colors should be close to what you see here when printed on the new printer.

My next Sukhoi will be green. I added sponsor logos to this one and added some logos for the blue bird too.
I'll be getting them both outfitted with BL set ups soon.

Well, this is my first blog entry. I thought I would post some pix of my new decals for my Parkzone Sukhoi. I've had lots of great feed back from this effort and even a job offer to do some graphics for a new start up model airplane company.
I'm going to pick another bare airframe and do some new graphics and tranfer the gear from stock Sukhoi but up grade it to 1s BL.
