Review of Giant Power DINOGY MEGA GRAPHENE 2.0 1550mAh 14.8V 75C Lipo Battery

Graphene is the very latest ‘wonder material’ for nano class batteries, bringing with it a range of attributes which lift battery performance to a new level.

Graphene is a honeycomb lattice of carbon atoms, and is a potent conductor of electrical and thermal energy. When Graphene technology is added to Lithium batteries, the ions are able to move much more quickly between the positive and negative electrodes. This boosts the battery performance in every respect and, because of Graphene’s astonishingly light weight, there is no weight penalty. In fact, there is a weight saving!

‘Graphene 2.0’ technology allows to produce market leading Lithium batteries with higher energy density (lighter weight and higher capacity), higher under-load voltage, higher reliability and precision cell matching. As every drone racing pilot knows, light weight and higher output voltage are vital if you want to stand on the podium: The DINOGY MEGA Graphene 2.0 is your route to racing success!

Looking for winter projects in November of 2017, and interested in adding to my RC flying wing collection, I couldn't pass on the size and sale price at Banggood.com for the DW (Dancing Wings) Rainbow 800mm EPP flying wing. The sale was only for version 1 and not the upgraded version 2 design. Comparing the differences, and knowing my plans for it and building skill level, I saved a few dollars by buying the older model. I am very glad I did as the results are excellent! Keeping the build cost low I used as much as I could of what I had on hand. I have less than $50 of new money into this fun flyer!

Listed on the website:

Description:
Brand Name: DW HOBBY
Item Name: Rainbow flying wing
Wingspan: 800mm
Length: 365mm
Flying Weight: About 165g
Propeller: GWS 5030

Recommended Parts For Tail Push Version (Not included):
Motor: 1404 2900KV
ESC: 5A
Servo: 5g*2
Propeller: GWS 5030
Lipo Battery: 2S 200-400mAh

----------------------------------------------------------------
For comparison my build resulted in:
Flying Weight: 295 grams (10 - 3/8 ounces)
Propeller: Graupner 12 x 12 cm CAM
Motor: Racerstar BR2406S-2300KV
ESC: GForce 30A
Servo: Hitec HS-55 Economy Feather Sub Micro Servo
Lipo Battery: Rhino 1050mah 3-cell
Radio System: Redcon 6 channel DSM2 compatible RX

Alterations to the kit are rather extensive to compensate for highly over powering this wing. They include:...Continue Reading

While we were down in Texas at Apache Pass, I added a 1900kv Ritewing Rocket motor to my 26" Cuda on 6S 2900 with a 6x4 carbon prop. This thing rips now.

Funcub

In my ever-growing hangar of Multiplex models is now the Funcub. I got the kit version from my fb who originally bought it for spares.

The build was pretty straightforward, instructions clear and precise, though I actually stumbled on some things - in particular the rear wheel install requires some thought. A pro tip is to just remove the center spread with the instruction figures to be able to read in your preferred language and look at the figures at the same time!

I would recommend waiting to install the elevator and rudder snakes until after the tail is done. The ”cut to length” instruction only made sense after I had them installed.

Servo choice were Emax ES08MA all around. They are not identical to Multiplex recommended items, so the crevices in the fuselage for the rudder and elevator were a bit too large. I took the opportunity to glue some hard balsa to create a tight fit and finished it with screws for good measure.

I also did the removable tail mod I found here at RCGroups, inserting a threaded wood block in the fin and a nylon screw from underneath.

Just for good measure I put some carbon strips in the fuse before gluing it together. I have done this to several of my Elapor models and they become very stiff, almost balsa-like.

The only receiver I had available was a Multiplex DR-6 so the dual flap servos use a Y-cable. Rather than buying an electronic-servo-reversing-gadget I cut out the wing to fit one flap servo the other way...Continue Reading

Yep Les Amis,

There are frequent heated discussions here on RCG and elsewhere on what the C ratings of LiPo batteries are, how they are obtained and how accurate they might, or might not, be ...

Here is an example of a so-called "LiPo C-Rating Calculator" that surprisingly does not even state what formula it uses to achieve the answer:

http://www.soko-heli-tools.com/en/li...alculator.html

One can even find a $90 device that when plugged into your battery will give you your magic C-Rating:

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/wayne-gi...cell-lipo.html

It looks all like rather mysterious physics until you realize it is all based on 1850's physics (Ohm's law) and middle school arithmetic (see below).

Here is some better discussion that leaves out all the foggy rubbish & nonsense (actually more of a sensible definition of terminology) :

http://web.mit.edu/evt/summary_batte...ifications.pdf

So what is the formula and what exactly does it tell you ??

So take the "calculator" from the first website:

A 5000mAh battery with a cell count of 6 and a cell IR of 2 milliOhm will give a C-rating of 24.5.

A little Mathematica algebra (see pdf below) allows to almost immediately extract the trivial (and ad hoc) formula they are using :

C Rating = 2451 / SquareRoot[ capacity * resistance ]

Nothing else enters the formula (try it out for yourself), all you need is the capacity in mAh printed on the pack (which most can read), and the internal resistance (IR) in milliOhms.

am starting a thread on the lemon 0052 receiver with telemetry and modulation DSMP and also compatible with DSMX and DSM2. am using it here with the DX6G3 radio. as this is a work-in-process, please check from time to time at the bottom as i may add something.
the receiver: https://www.lemon-rx.com/index.php?r...product_id=160
the radio: https://www.horizonhobby.com/dx6-6-c...ode-2-spmr6750
the thread: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...s#post39758353
when i learned that this receiver was available i got 1. as i fly electric gliders it has several items that i use so would be very convenient.
then i learned that there is a forum where they are discussed so went there. there are instructions and data about it written by John (jj604), and is being used with the radios from horizon. John has been writing instructions for several products, some of them by lemon, without being paid (he has no participation on the business of lemon). then i got a DX6G3 and began learning how to use it with the 0052 and asked for advice at the forum but i was told by a fellow (who, by the way, works for horizon and posts at that thread) not to post there as it was about the 0052 only and i should go to the DX6G3 forum. wonder why he said so. he is the least to have the right to say that, as him participating at the thread of the competition is conflict of interests. and when i went to the forum, he told me that he already answered the questions at the other forum and...Continue Reading

I've been debating about whether to start a build log on this airplane so I thought that I would start it here and then if all goes well, then I may move it to the appropriate forum

The plane is a P-51 Mustang. Just what the model world needs right? Another P-51!

This one started out back in the early 70's designed for the old FAI pylon racing circuit. It was designed by Tony Dowdeswell in England and the plans were published in the April '73 issue of RC Modeler Magazine. It is assuredly not scale but close enough that no one should have any difficulty recognizing it. It is approximately 1/7 (1/6.79 based on wing span) scale with a 57 inch wing span. It can be built as either the D version or as a B/C version. I prefer the looks of the B/C version but am leery of being able to find a suitable canopy for it. D Model canopies seem to be readily available. I have no confidence in my ability to produce a canopy on my own.

I downloaded the plans in PDF format and tile printed them. After assembling the plans, I discovered that the two sheets (fuselage on one sheet, wing and stab on another) did not match up. So now I had to resize the plans and make them fit to each other. I had to make the wing plans so a 57 inch span and them get the wing root chord to match the wing saddle opening on the fuselage. Thanks to GIMP, I was able to fairly easily (once I figured out how to do it) able to do it . Then it was back to reprinting the plans in the correct size.

Now...Continue Reading

. Some of Canberra's best pilots will be taking to the skies this weekend, but their aircraft will be far too small to take any humans on board. Qualifying events will take place on Sunday to determine which four drone pilots will represent the ACT at the national drone racing championships later this year. About 20 drone pilots will be put through their paces at the Weston Creek Archery Club in a series of races, testing their speed and skill.

The Battle Sharks drone – Visuo XS809S (14 min 32 sec)

If you were a fan of the previously launched VISUO XS809HW, then you’ll be glad to learn that the company released its successor, the VISUO XS809S BATTLES SHARKS Edition: if you like, buy it from Banggood site: http://shrsl.com/zkwa

The VISUO XS809S Battle Sharks got a very similar design to the previously mentioned older brother, which was itself inspired by the DJI Mavic Pro. The XS809S edition does feature a very cool shark-themed body paint that makes it look somewhat unique.

Just like the predecessor, the VISUO drone is available in two versions with either a 0.3MP or a 2MP image sensor to grab photos and videos.

Features wise, the XS809S packs Altitude Hold Mode, Headless Mode, OneKey Return and it can do 3D flips.
The VISUO XS809S is powered by a big 3.7V 1800mAh capacity battery for a long lasting flight time: about 20 minutes of fun.
