Main Wing MOD Flight #4 FPV With a bit of Acro ;-) - WLToys F949 Cessna 182

This flight is Goggles Down and completely FPV.
This was a fantastic flight and the first FPV flight with all the MODS.
This will most likely be our final significant MOD to this plane.
We may post Tutorials on how this and other MODs we performed if many subscribers are interested.
We will also put up some tips on making the landing gear better, etc.
I think I have taken this plane as far as I'm going to and I am extremely happy at the end result.
I love this plane and the way it flies with the MODs we performed.
It is in my opinion a very much improved airplane from the stock version.
I will take all that I have learned with this plane and will be using that knowledge in designing our first "Glue & Fly Series" Micro Trainer ;-)
Stay tuned for more Tips and possibly Tutorials on this plane.

So I added some new rc experiences in the past week. Still looking for more time but I was able to learn the Qx7 radio, add telemetry, and maiden my new stratosurfer. Yes it is a beginner plane and may seem like a backward step, but it is a new type of plane to me AND allowed me to start learning how to adjust my rig and mount a mini video camera. I used the runcam 2. So far I have had 9 flights. The 9th ended with a collosion with my dog yard fence and my plane as I tried to blue tooth on the video. I am learning though and hope to be posting flight video very soon.

Maiden FPV Flight - WLToys F949 Cessna 182 Complete Brushless MOD!

OK, Line-Of-Sight flying of this brushless conversion was more successful than I had hoped ;-)
Now it's time to put the Micro FPV System on this plane and have even more fun!
Join me for the Maiden FPV Flight of the WLToys F949 Cessna 182 with the Complete Brushless Conversion.
After the flight I measured the LIPO voltage and it was at 7.49v.
I was hoping to get 5-6 minutes of FPV Flight but it looks like it's going to be 6-7 minutes, Yeah!

Re-Maiden - WLToys F949 Cessna 182 Complete Brushless MOD!

I was looking for an upgrade brushed motor and prop for this plane, however, I wasn't satisfied with the thrust on the ones I tested.
What to do now to give this plane more power?
Well, I decided to do a complete Brushless MOD on this great little plane.
I tested several Micro Brushless Motors with a 1S LIPO and was again disappointed with the amount of thrust.
On to 2S LIPO testing and Yeah! I found a good balance of weight, thrust, and efficiency ;-)
Joine me for the Re-Maiden of this great little plane now that it has a complete Brushless Power System.
If this is successful, I will be testing it again with a Micro FPV System ;-)

Tutorial - WLToys F949 Cessna 182 Complete Brushless MOD! - Show & Tell ;-)

In this Tutorial I'm going to explain how I completed this Total Brushless MOD of the WLToys F949 Cessna 182.
The list of components I used are listed in the Video Show Notes with links to everything you should need.

Note: I could not find the exact prop I used, however, I would use a 4030 prop or cut down a 5030 prop.

If you're looking for an excellent flying Brusless Micro Trainer for under $70 BNF (Bind and Fly) look no further.
All it will take is a bit of work, however, it is well worth the effort.

Note: If you already have this plane your ready to begin....if you don't have this plane, ordering all the plane parts without the electronics will save you almost $20

Well, after many years now of playing with flat foam as an alternative to hotwire cut wings, last weekend set the bar.
This is the simplest building wing, maybe in the world.
Made from a single layer of 6mm depron (or FFF or DTF).
A couple of cuts with a razor knife, a few bevels and throw a few pieces of packing tape at it, and you have a very acrobatic and fun flying glider.

I can't believe it is really this simple.
What was I thinking with all these other complicated desings!

The problem is, some of the elders, at the slope, really got upset over this wing.
Turns out that it works so good, that the flight envelope is nearly unlimited, which really seems to screw up, the boring "S" pattern that less capable planes need to fly in! Darn things almost caused a fight and even got a fellow sloper, assaulted.

So Stephan, apply named it, THE INSTIGATOR!

When you see people having this much fun, it is sure to piss people off! LOL

Here's a video made by Mark, of last weekends exploits and this new "instigator" wing.

RC Tip #16 - Hobby King Focke Wulf FW190 Kit Plane Landing Gear Fix

This is a great flying plane, however, the Landing Gear have some issues.
First the wire is either to soft or to small of a gage of wire.
When landing on bumpy ground the Landing Gear will bend back from it's vertical position.
The wheels also will turn in or out with minimal force.
In this video we will fix those issues.

Our Video Show Notes provide Links to this plane and components.

Flying Seniors - Geeze Louise

This week, I flew a couple model planes – sucessfully. A 2m glider called the Pulsar. And a 1.5m cub-like model called the Tundra. (Been flying nothing but drones since 2010.)

Where a month or so back, I decided I was too old to fly planes - after crashing the never flown before Tundra – right there in front of the Geneva RC Club membership - with family in attendance. I put on a game face, as I carried the wreckage off the field. Hearing one old timer remark that it looked like it was flying nose heavy. Old timer? Really? I’ve got to be one of the older guys at the field – Geeze.

Thinking back over that embarassing bit, especially the “old timers” remark – and accessing the plane’s behavior while I was trying to land – it just wouldn’t glide – yeah – it could well have been a bit nose heavy – meaning - I didn’t finesse that while figuring out where to mount the battery (battery placement is how we control COG (Center Of Gravity).

So – I finally finessed it – and yeah – the battery wants to be 2” further back from where it was – to balance in the middle of the COG. In that Tundra.

And that Tundra, the one with the batt 2” further back – it flies like a sweet heart.

But Geeze - I use to finesse the COGs in my planes – AND - the old ones that I setup back in the day – all still fly well. But .....Continue Reading

I have had internal solder tabs break on me in the past, I simply splice soldered a new bridge of wire across the tabs to fix it. You can see the broken tab across the blue wire here:

I used some electrical tape to prevent any shorted circuits while soldering:

I'm still here @ KazumaDrewsin on facebook and youtube.

this is a little show on my skills as of now. the pic is of an old spacewalker i got flying again by putting an old radian board in it and an FPV cam. it's a little heavy but flys,..... weird. it can only climb while turning but holds a steading forward, just if I try any up or down input it act super tail heavy.
oh, how would you set flaps out of a 4 channel plane using ailerons?
