While watching videos about the Draken, I started watching some of the Viggen, I never really payed too much attention to this airplane as it looked sort of odd, but the shape in the air is quite dramatic so I did the best I could to honor the shape, and came out with a very nice flying rocket glider.

Here is a video from today with the completed Draken, just missing decals, 10 oz weight rtf, was in 9-10 mph winds with gusts to 13, handled it well, I did a spot landing on the last flight(no damage)

22" wingspan, 32" long, 2.6" diameter, 6mm depron wing/tail.

I was asked by a customer to modify my F106 kit into a Dagger, I had to make new tail and side plate templates, move the cockpit back and shorten the spine, but the rest was identical, this one is slightly heavier due to the extra foam at 8.65 oz rtf, but still 27.5" long, 20" wingspan.


Here is a video of my Delta Dagger in flight, was a nice day , first flight which is the last in the video I misjudged my distance a bit and just caught the edge of the long grass...

This model really scoots, 27.5" length, 20" wingspan(scale is 15") only 1 sq foot wing area, but only 8.35 oz rtf using an E-6 motor....

I wanted a disk wing model in my fleet, and tried to put as much star trek shape/decoration into it but still make it flyable as an R/C rocket glider. The star trek ships do not lend themselves to rear mounted motors as the disk and cg requirements are very far forward.

The disk is 19" and gives a much larger area than it visually looks, glide is quite good for the shape of the model. The deflector dish is the end of the nose cone I cut off, reverse and glue back in, the antenna is a piece of spare 3mm carbon rod I rounded off and drilled/glued into the dish. Dish is colored with gold sharpie pen, the warp engine front is tamiya acrylic orange brushed on, the decals here were hand cut but stickershock has the patterns now. Length is 47", disk is 19", 2.6" diameter, weight 11.25 oz rtf using a 24mm E-6 rocket motor. Wing is 6mm depron, warp motor is 9mm depron with 6mm depron laminated on both sides of the engine to allow some rounding to be done for visual effect. The disk decoration is simply a sharpie pen taped to a compass, for the larger circles I taped chop sticks to my compass to extend the legs and then taped the sharpie to one of the legs. The model required a bit of down trim for boost due to the draggy tail and high mounted wing, but that was it.

The day was very clear as was the moon, so I intentionally steered during boost to set up for a moon crossing which timed out great with the theme music.

Here's a semi scale thunderchief I just completed. It uses 2.6 inch lightweight tubing, 6 mm depron surfaces and elevon controls. Wingspan is 26.5 in length is 34 in weight ready for liftoff is 11 oz.

I built two versions of this, a silver one and a white one(to save a bit of weight) the white shows off the details better even if it isn't correct to the original, I still like it. Wing is upsized of course for glide and wingtips are downsized enough to not drag on the ground first when landing.

I decided to do an upscale of my YF-12 Interceptor kit. This is the interceptor version of the A-12 that was used for testing the Aim-47 missile and by Nasa for high speed/altitude testing. One was lost in an accident, another was damaged and was later used to splice onto the remains of an SR-71 to become an SR-71C, the only survivor is in the USAF museum in Dayton. It had shorter truncated strakes because of the round nose cone that contained the radar. This caused some stability issues and lower fins and a foldable centeral fin were used to help, due to landing issues I left off the lower fins.

This model uses 2.6" lightweight tubing and cone, 9mm depron wing with 1/8" carbon spars, 3 in the wing about 10" apart. Elevon control running a single 500mah 1s lipo in the nose for power to the rx and hs-65hb servos. 27.5 oz rtf with a 32mm G-12 RC motor. Video shows flights on G-40 and G-12 motors handled them great, trim and glide settings were perfect and it was very docile.

I had done a smaller version of this a year ago using 2.6 in tubing and using a trick of an oversized wing with the oversized portion painted flat black so that just the scale wing outline was mostly visible and it worked really well. I decided to do an upscale using 4 inch tubing, modifying the nose cone front block head off and turning the rear diameter a little bit to match the thinner wall tubing I'm using. are you single ply 9 mm depron for the wings and tail with 1/8 carbon spars, two in the wing and one in the vertical stabilizer. the decals are a mix of hand cut self-adhesive vinyl and some printed vinyl from sticker shock 23. This model weighs 28 and 1/2 ounces without the motor. I had five test flights I started with an f -26 then an f-25 then 2 g-38 and 1 g-40 the video shows them in reverse order. These are all composite Aeroteh motors without the ejection charge. I was super happy with how stable at boosted and how slow and docile it was gliding and. landing. it's really draggy so the flight times aren't super long but it really looks the part and I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out.

I decided to do a 150% upscale of my avro arrow, I was able to use 3" tubing, and a better nose profile cone, using single ply 9mm depron with a little carbon reinforcement and get a 37" wingspan version that comes in at 27.4 oz rtf using a 32mm G-12 8 second burn rocket motor
Accents and panel lines with sharpie pen and self adhesive vinyl. Roundels, and lettering from Stickershock23. Sims show a boost altitude of around 600'. Goal was trying to keep weight really light, using a profile of the intakes and working with a nose cone and tubing I could easily get. About 1:17 scale. This uses elevon only since I don't need rudder for boost and glide, running off a single 500mah 1s battery, very lightweight setup.

I just finished this up, an RC Avro Arrow RC rocket glider. The nose profile is not correct, but it was designed to use a an available inexpensive part to fit the tubing I use. 33.5" long, 2" diameter, 23.5" wingspan. It's a nice flyer, 10.5 oz rtf with about a 6 oz wing loading. The body tube is cut at an angle at the rear and the motor tube is mounted right under the top of the tube inset about 1.75" to help cg. Depron wing and tail with a single cross 3mm spar and side plates to mimick the intake and tail cones. Black on the nose was painted, the rest is vinyl self adhesive trim hand cut. It's not scale due to the profile intakes and using a tube for the body/nose, but I think it captures the look of this outstanding aircraft.

Here is one I decided to kit, it's one of the proposed X-15-3 Delta configurations designed to get the X-15 above Mach 7 and for extended periods. I was not able to extend the strakes all the way forward for CG/weight reasons, but it looks pretty good, is a nice big size and flies really well on long burn 24mm rocket motors. RC Rocket glider kit is modeled after the proposed X-15 modification to allow sustained flight above Mach 6.7. It features a clipped delta wing, diamond shaped wingtips. It has a light wing loading giving it a very nice glide and easy/stable boost. It comes with a plastic nose cone, 2.6″ white tubing for the body and 9mm depron wing and tail surfaces. All Foam surfaces are pre-beveled. Elevons are pre-hinged, the rail buttons are pre-installed and the body tube is pre-slotted for the wing and tail. The wing spar is pre-grooved for the spar. Length 37″, wingspan 20″, weight rtf 11.7-12.25 oz. I finished mine in white because at high speeds it would have most likely needed the ablative covering like the high speed drop tank X-15-2 version. It also saved me a half ounce of weight.

I have built this that I drew up many years ago in several versions, 6mm depron single ply with rocket in the rear, with tractor motor up front and air start rocket in the rear, in a doubled KF airfoil as both tail electric pusher and rocket glider(to stiffen the wings), I decided to build another one purely for rocket glider using some 9mm depron I have, allowing me to keep to single ply. I did a pseudo winter camo black/white eastern front scheme for fun. The problem with tail mounted motors in ME-163's are the moment arm of the tail to the CG is longer than to the nose so getting balance is a challenge. It came out a bit heavier than I wanted but still flies nice and is very docile on boost. As with any wing with CG shift as the motor burns out, the elevons don't have a lot of leverage in nose heavy condition and they can run out of flare on landing, but this one is pretty well balanced, not twitchy on boost and still nice to land.

25" long, 37" wingspan, 15.5 oz ready to fly using a 24mm longburn E-6 motor. I flew on E-12 motors but the boost is just faster but doesn't go quite as high.

Glide isn't terribly long, but this one was just for fun and looks good.

Here's one I designed and built/flew as an electric pusher and rocket glider in 6mm depron, this weekend I rebuilt one in 9mm which sacrificed some weight at the benefit of increased stiffness, flies great! 41" length, 25" wingspan, 15 oz rtf with 24mm E-6 and E-12 Aerotech rocket motors.

Not a Saab Draken, but I like the name and it was dragon themed with the logo....A new offering soon, 32" long, 25" wingspan, 10.5 oz rtf using 24mm E-6 motors and 2.6" diameter. I wanted something 1950's sci fi or steampunk sort of themed....
