X440 flew great at 20.1 ounces. Started off with a power off hand toss to make sure the V tail ruddervators were set up properly. Second toss was at half power then at full power she accelerated vertically and after 5 seconds shut the motor down for glide trim. She picked up light lift and after thermaling for a few minutes tested higher speed and she did surprisingly well. If you are used to foamy motor gliders with thick wings you really get better performance on a thinner built up wing. I miss having flaps so approach and touchdown made it a little more difficult. I flew for about 5-8 minutes and only used 25 seconds of motor. The 10.5 blades draw 13 amps and 187 watts on the Turnigy Prop Drive (28-30 800 KV max amps is 20 , 1050 4S Lipo and 20 amp ESC....Continue Reading

I thought this Tiny Wing would make for an excellent Micro FPV Wing ;-)
It has several flight modes; 6-axis, 3-axis, and manual.
It's made from EPP Foam which makes it extremely durable.
I think this Micro Wing has better Slow Flight Capability in Manual Mode than in Gyro Mode ;-)

Let's blow the Dust Off ;-)

Here is a free pdf ebook on how to make a self balancing vehicle. Contains details on my models, problems, resolutions, suggestions, etc.

https://demej00.wordpress.com/2020/0...e-two-wheeler/

What I have discovered with my current vehicle model:

1. Vehicle makes right turns very sharply without falling over (gyroscope rotor is spinning to the left at about 10000 rpm) but falls on sharp turns to the left. It also falls making backward right-hand turns but not backward left turns.
2. Programming requires taking into account the natural precession of the rotor and corrections must take into account which of four sectors the rotor axis is in. This is forced precession as you cannot just place the gyroscope rotor at the balance point - that will not work. It is like you have to coax the rotor into a balanced position.
3. Corrections to the gyroscope gimbal must be programmatically made in short (approximately 50 millisecond) spurts with a slight delay following to allow the gyroscope to naturally precess to a balanced point.
4. Balancing requires a gyroscope rotor of mass/total vehicle weight of anywhere from 15 to 20%. Some seem to have been successful at 8% but I think that must be because it is a full-sized vehicle and probably more efficient than at the model level. Not sure.

THE BIG PROBLEM:
How can we make sharp left turns (gyro spinning to the left) without falling over and only using a single gyroscope (two gyroscopes solves this problem but has other issues). One possible solution that I have yet to try is to put the gyroscope on a 2nd gimbal and turn it when the vehicle turns (like the Gyro-X car).

Using data from 117 countries, population and IQ have an almost perfect inverse relation as seen in the correlation coefficient.
The rate of population increase is irrelevant, any increase is sufficient.

Regardless of the cause, as long as population continues to increase, IQ will decrease.

As everyone on the planet knows, its stay at home and stop the spread . And because I work on restoring a PBY Catalina which we have had to stop working on ,I was asked to restore the association model . I decided that it should be restored to a museum standard with a full metal jacket
for display with the full size when we complete it . I just wish it was as easy to work on the full size as it is the model . Photo's posted in no particular order of...Continue Reading

This is the 3rd and final installment in the Eflite Rare Bear series. The stock 8x8 prop has been swapped out for the more aggressive APC 9x9E prop and has been dynamically balanced, along with the spinner for an ultra fine throttle-up. Bench testing with a fully charged Admiral 4S 3000mAh 35C lipo yielded 68.9 max static amps with 1045 watts power - Great stats and within the "rated parameters" for the stock internals.

Eflite Rare Bear 880mm BNF Basic w/AS3X 4S Flight with APC 9x9E Propeller (4 min 24 sec)

My whole intent for this upgrade was to maximize the performance of the Rare Bear while keeping the AUW (All Up Weight) down as much as possible, for the ease of hand launch, as well as minimizing the amount of weight "momentum" it carries on landing approaches. With my APC 9x9E prop setup, the Rare Bear has significantly increased its power output and speed - hand launches are much easier, it can now clear the diagonal length of the double-wide lacrosse fields we fly at in under 3 seconds (formerly 3.5 seconds with the stock 8x8 prop), and has better slower landing characteristics on approach. All this for a $2.18 prop.. And all within spec.

With that said, I will be clear in saying that I have NO desire to go 5 or 6S - why spend more money on batts that I don't even own, just to increase the weight setup and make it a PITA to land on the field.. all for more speed that I don't even need? For $2.18, the APC 9x9E prop was a perfect choice...Continue Reading
