A quick and easy way to make a blade shaping / finish sanding block. I hope it turns out as nice for you as it did for me.
Well I guess we a limited to how much we can say in each picture.
So after Harding the balsa block it will raise the grain in the wood so just run it over the fine paper on the master to smooth it off. That's why you don't dismantle the jig till often the balsa is dry.

A block of balsa cut just a tad wider than the master blade that will be copied . Glue two hardwood glides flush to bottom of block. (If using C A try NOT to get any on the bottom of the balsa.) it does not sand evenly. -

A sanding jig with a hardwood fence as a guide is best, a table saw fence might work as well. You must have a master blade to copy mine was made by the master himself and still flys after 2years. Place double sided tape on the bottom of the master blade. -

Now use spray adhesive on the top of the master and fix a sheet of coarse sand paper making sure it sticks tight and around the nose but Not under it. Trim so as not to see any part of the top of the master. -

Place the sanding block against the fence, then place the master blade on the bed of the jig so it is within the balsa area and not going to touch the hardwood glides. ITS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE JIG FENCE THE INTIRE LENGTH OF THE FEN -

You can see I added another glide on the fence side of the block the keep it from rocking while sanding the shape into the balsa. Now ELBOW GREASE is needed. Keeping the balsa block tight and square against the fence work the balsa over the sand paper ar -

Keep sanding till the hardwood guides just start to touch the jigs floor. -

At this point we have a nice shape, time to change to a fine finish paper and continue sanding till the hardwood glides hit the floor of the jig and no more saw dust is produced.

I am fortunate to be able to have in my possession a set of prints for 'The Panther" an autogyro designed built and flown by Rich Harris. I think a certain rabbit pulled them out of his hat
He is in no hurry to return home Joe but he does have an appetite but he came through on this one for me so I'll keep him around a bit longer
Back to the build as you will see it is a very straight forward build with prints in hand cut out all the parts separate them in piles according to wood type and thickness then transfer them to wood and cut out. A basic box frame is used with reinforcing in all the cridical points,Nose, Landing gear, Mast location,ECT.

Well fellas I am going to try something new and do a build log thread of Whirlybird Aviation- PCA-2 . As of this posting I have not got the short kit yet, But I expect the big brown truck any day now. So until then I am setting up the shop and camera, a new build board, and stocking up on materials ect. More to come as the kit arrives I am going to thank all my R/C Groups buddies right from the getgo like Joe, Dave, Mike,Rich, and all others that tune in give advise. Thanks in advance BiLL
