2.2km Record FPV Flight (4 min 27 sec)

The jumpiness is because of my EZCap that I record with, and is not how my live view is .

FPV Best Distance Record + Emergency Landing! (5 min 25 sec)

I was aiming to break a record (my previous was 1km), and I did! I got out to 1.44km which is just a little shy of a mile, though on my return leg I lost throttle control at about 1.2km out and had to glide towards home. I ended up coming to a rest at 200m from home safely in some 3 foot grass, and just 2 FEET in front of a barbed wire fence!

My belief is that when I panned my camera it must of caused the voltage sensor to bump into my RX and cause throttle connection to become lose.

Luckily the landing was great and no damage was done, also marks my FIRST FULL FPV landing :P

Going back a little over a month ago I had this happen:

Bixler FPV CRASH! (1 min 13 sec)

After that crash my plane had been recovered before I could recover it, and for a month I thought it was gone forever, and I had theorized many wild and crazy notions of what could of happened, and pondered heavily it's fate.

Then one dark and stormy night (It really was ), I received a phone call exactly on the eve of the first month of my planes departure... It was my plane! The next day exactly one month to the day it was lost it had returned home, and this is how it was:

The person whom had been looking over my lost plane had decided to gut it, which is how he found my information inside of the plane... because of this all components where requiring re-install.

Along with the re-install also went the FY31AP Autopilot system (which arrived 2 days after the crash...), and Hornet OSD.

It has been rocky with the new equipment... the plane flew very well however the autopilot did not like my out-of-balance prop at all... nor did my FY31AP like having it's pots turned as 2 of them where stuck and stripped out (ReadyMadeRC is going to exchange it once they have stock).

After much test flying and finally finding something that fit onto my camera (has it's wiring harness broke...), I realized an old stripped Walkera servo from my Genius CP had a connector type that fit onto my camera! I actually got the proper camera wire harness from ReadyMadeRC...Continue Reading

Well it turns out vibrations are rendering my FY31AP useless... So I have a new motor and prop coming, though from China so that is going to take a few weeks to arrive.

I found out that the connectors for my Genius CP servos are the proper type of connector to connect to my camera, so I have had my plane FPV setup for 3 days but the weather has been highly UN-coperative! The sun finally came out today however the winds have been 20+, hopefully tomorrow will have more friendly wind conditions and no rain.

I also have a 1 watt 2.4Ghz booster coming to hopefully really kick up my RC link range!

Going back a month ago I had lost my FPV Bixler do to RC link failure, I lost link at about 1800ft LOS over a town (not there on purpose, wind had blown me over it), which caused a crash! Luckily the plane landed in a spot that caused no property or personal damage, however someone did recover it before I could! I was pretty much sure it was a written off deal, and had been preparing for my next plane I was going to get for FPV, then all of a sudden a few days ago I get a phone call at 9pm... it was the guy with my plane!

Turned out a friend of his picked it up, and brought it to him because he flies RC too. Well the guy let it sit for 29 days, and had decided to gut the electronics, which caused him to find my info card!

I got EVERYTHING back, and luckily all electronics where in near perfect condition and working well. The airframe however had a busted up nose, though it wasn't that bad, and a wing that was rather evenly cut at about mid point, and the base end of the wing was split in 2 cleanly right on the aileron servo wire channel, overall not bad damage at all. The 2200mah flight battery did take a little bit of smooshing from the impact, and was around 2.5 volts per cell, however I noticed no puffing. I brought it up to 3.8 and it stayed rock solid at that voltage per cell for 2 days, then gave it a full charge which it has held rock solid for about 12 hours now. The other battery that was onboard was a 1300mah, and my lipo checker wouldn't even turn on....Continue Reading

Well going back over a month ago I was flying FPV and my plane went down, and was taken before I could recover. Well I just got a phone call! Turns out whomever recovered it 'for me' gave it to a friend of his whom flies RC airplanes and he was starting to go through it today to gut it, and found my name tag and address inside!

Tomorrow I will have it in my hands and be able to see the damage .

It's been a bit too long since I posted a blog post so it's about time I did so, so I will break this post down into sections of what's going on in my RC world .

Heli's

We have had a lot of wind and rain recently, so weather hasn't been very optimal for flying my 42 gram Genius CP, however I have been doing a lot of flying anyway, and had gotten pretty good at keeping control in 10 to 20mph winds, then today BOOM, the weather is FANTASTIC! Wind's around 2 to 6mph, nice fluffy clouds, and some warm in the air. I flew about 10 or 12 full batteries today with nothing but FANTASTIC performance. I really believe all that flying in the wind really sharpened me for flying in ideal conditions. I was doing moves I had only ever done in the sim before, and indeed I was even doing a bit better in real life then I tend to do in the sim .

On my last flight I was warming up by doing some high speed figure 8's with nose up climb to dose down dive turns (Not sure how to word that better ROFL), and I did about 3 or 4 passes, I then moved myself while flying to talk to someone while I was flying. I forgot about the power lines above where I NOW was standing, and zipped right into one. While inspecting her I noticed no damage other then cosmetic, so I went to fly again. Well she took off fine but felt rather mushy, then all of a sudden she shot up and starting wobbling like crazy! I managed to land, checked things out but nothing seemed odd, and sure enough 2 more attempts yielded...Continue Reading
