Don't have concerns about the 3600Kv hyperion anymore Broke shaft while testing, loose shaft adapter went a little crazy and snapped shatt and tore up my hand a bit. Usually use vise grips to hold motor but hyperion so smooth I didn't. Careless and early not quite awake caused accident,
so I wasted no time getting a new motor. Broke my rule to only use horizon hobby and went to site "headsuprc.com."they are an american co based out of Fla so they stated.Very well organied ...I picked up a 2836-2200KV a 350watt inrunner weighing modest 3.2 oz($23.95)
Tested genaric servo's, with AR6100e . they worked fine but the rx would not engage with the rudder slot, so I used alerion slot and it worked great (rudd future problem} spec's say the prop I'm going to use ..APC 6 x 4 provided 21oz thrust @21A
Also picked up a 3s 2200 mAh 25 C EZ Flite Li-Po (weight reduction )instead of using 2650 3s 20C 167 g instead of my2600 20c blueline weighing in at 241g. new lipo 161g (on sale $19.95.)-save 74 g
Whole package shipping cost is std 4.95/. advvertise the noted for fast shippig same day order and 2 tio 3 day shipping vcia priority shipping.
take a chance and comment i can take it....Crashman2

I have gone through the Apprintence and a Wild hawk as is and now finally a Mini Cub. which are not made to fly in Texas.I have collected some parts etc for an Easy Star upgrade to brushless. I had just completed the same type brushless change to the Wild Hawk But it was killed by a reckless powered wheel chair before I could test it.I was using a very powerful outrunner which I had sorta stick mounted to the Pusher motor location ,but a moot point now. So here is my seat of the pants parts list for my Easy Star update. I am using these parts not from an engineered approach but ....I have them lying around.
1. Tx _ Sprectrum D5xe - $ Free
2. Rx -Spectrum AR6100e new -$ 25.0 including ship.
3 Motor - Hyperion inrunner - y22 L -3600 Kv $ 8.00 plus shipping... (got this from a tip someone wrote about on rc groups a while back)
4.Esc-40A- (bp hobbies) from my local, BMI Hobbies - $ 28.00
5. Li-po - Have Blue line 2650 mAh3s 20c, @241 g which I think is too heavy so I think I will use a new Blue Line 2200 mAh 3s 20c @152g $16.95 + ship
6. Easy Star Kit from Horizon Hobby @ 80 $ shipped.
As your can see my biggest objective so far is cost.....that may change !
a)My concerns are motor size, too too big? Will find out on maiden. If too big will drop to a 2200Kv. prob from Hobby Partz.
b)Cooling ESC, may mount externally as I saw in one of this groups mod's.
Other than that ,I'll engr it as I go ......Improvise.....I know I need more rudder.
OK so what do you think? Am I out in left field or do I stand a chance ?
Thanks for any comments no matter how harsh ... Crashman

I have taken this plane out 6 to ten times now with the results consistantly the same ...crash ...crash crash. I am learning to be a good repair tech but still an awful pilot. The Super Cub was so easy what went wrong.....
What I have noticed is that it wont roll in even the shortest grass, it just noses over with more throttle. Maybe a tail dragger is just better in the grass. So,I got some 3 inch skinny bicycle wheels but unless they are machined to a couple three thousands id the wheels just flop to a side they need some with a bearing journal. they didn't work. So I try the side walk but its down hill the other way is parking lot.I can't keep it straight enough to take off. Next and I only tried it once was hand launch ,it's just to big and awkard for my hand
So finally to the parking lot with all the curbs and islands but smooth. I got her up about every time only to come back down ....in the parking lot ....done for that day.Last crash broke my outrunner in half but she has survived pretty well.
Thus I decide not to spend the 70$ or so on a new brushless but rather shelve her for a while, the ranking is right on in my book. I am not flying her again until I get in a club and or instructor.
But I am addicted like y'all and want to keep flying....so I'm going to get an Easy Star Clone and back to a three channel and a pusher. So far I am leaning towards the Wild Hawk. It's just too much less than all the other clones of the Easy Star which I think is over priced as well as the T-Hawk. I have watched the videos and seen 1st time flyers crash and fly, young girls crash and fly, so II will also crash and for a change fly, until I get an instructor. I'll still have to stop misjudjing the winds but I'm working on that and at least I can hand launch the thing. All this fun and rolling on the ground in joy for 75.00$ delivered. Someone tell me I am all wrong.....

Arilab....Took in the cb 100 to my local store and the owner said it was trash. He just looked at it and saw splintered tail shaft missing gears, said the rear spinner motor looked shot and for that model it wasn't worth fixing. .....so I can still bring it over...don't know when but it won't fly.....later

In a nut shell my maiden was a bummer,I crashed, of course. Looked bad but all I need is motor mount and cowl. three things I notice diff than Scub. 1.I had to charge the big lipo with a car battery or you can buy a 12 volt source of some kind. 2. The plane would not move in the well groomed grass the Cub moved easly in. Tri vs taildragger? So I had to try to run the parking lot, curbs suck for launching planes.
Hand launch difficult for big plane. 3 .It took a long run to get airborne. ....didn't understand that with 15 size outrunner.
The rating lists put out seems accurate to me. Would have liked a experienced buddy for this launch. Oh well no bad dammage will pick up new motor mount next week ....nice to have local shops order for you, fast turnaround.

Well I 've been asking looking and reading all about beginner planes. My 1st 5 were intermediate or more and thats why they are long gone trash. Then Heli's some yellow thing that went up and down, 2 double horse 9087, a cb100 and a bunch of airhogs( the only thing i could fly.)but I really wanted to fly airplanes. So 5 planes later still a virgin, my fault and chinese quality. Then fellow member Low Pass recommended a Super Cub . I never heard of a Super Cub ,but after some plane problems and returns I set out for my maiden. ...Exileration! I was flying .Flew her enough to do ground take off and landings and loops and all kind of fun things. Then I lost her on a gusty Texas day. Not enouugh power to fight the wind and was really up there when the gusts hit. Well I just lost her. But saw her come down 3/4 mi down wind.
This is history and I won repeat again, but I got a greater respect for the wind ,she was gone.
I had decided only to use local hobby shops. so I found one ...two great guys that helped me with questions to know end.I had several ideas all included upgrading bottom up, they cost too much for what I wanted which included a outrunner brushless with big lipo. So finally after the owner and tech answered my questions ....I made the decision to go with the E-flite Apprentice. It is a powerfull 4ch with all top notch equipment.Yet still a begginer plane, and big for me at 58 in wing. I should get her here tommorrow. Ordered on Tues. These guys really helped me out I was there two hrs. Now they are giving me all types of tips on how to fly my 1st 4 ch. which I think I can fly. And to top it off the plane costs 299 from hobby zone but the owner gave it to me for 279. I'm new, but i do believe you are beter off wth a local especially if you are a beginner. Hope I don't crash too bad.......crashman2

I had a really fun time once I got a cub that worked, Hobby zone is good. I was out on a huge park, just playing and taking off from ground ,doing loops, & landing sorta. But the Cub was fun easy to fly. One morning I took her out with a few too many gusts. Took off playin and havin all kinds of fun.
THEN BIG GUSTS CAME UP AND I WAS ALREADY WAY TOO HIGH. THE WIND GOT'ER AND NO MATER WHAT I TRIED I STILL LOST CONTROL. SO I WATCHED HER SAIL AWAY REALLY HIGH FLYING IN IRRATIC CIRCLES AND WATCHED HER COME DOWN FINALLY ABOUT 3/4 MI DOWN WIND. BUT AS I WALED BRISKLY TO THE DOWN SITE I NOTICED A FOUNTAIN. THE CLOSER I GOT THE MORE I CONVINCED MYSELF SURELY IT WILL FLOAT.AFTER 15 TO 20 MINUTES OF BRISK WALKING I CAME ACROSS A FAIRLY BIG POND.BUT THERE WAS PLENTY OF OPEN GROUND ALL AROUND IT. AFTER ABOUT 1/2 HOUR oF SEARCHING I GAVE UP AND NEVER SAW THE SCUB AGAIN. lOCALS STORES SAID SOMEONE PROBABLY TOOK IT CAUSE IT HAD TO FLOAT AND THERE WERE PEOPLE AROUND. FROM NOW ON ,NAME AND PHONE ON ALL MY PLANES.....SPEAKING OF WHAT IS A GOOD BEGINNER PLANE FOR THE KIND OF GUSTING WE GET IN TEX, AVG 5 TO 15 MPH USUALLY THANKS ALOT FOR FOLLOW UP

Well my gut feeling paid off. Horizon Hobby, product support for Hobby Zone received my returned plane and issued a repair sheet Jul 2nd.via email.I called Jul 5 to checkout status. This time I left my number for them to call me back ,part of their service. After about an hour received a return call from an extremely friendly and helpful gentileman. He checked on my planes status for about 4 to 5 min. (this was about noon.) He told me the plane was completely repaired and would be shipped out today. Their repair consisted of sending out a brand new plane the same day they received the order.
I have to thank Dave, of Hobby Zone, for the suggestion."They wouldn't wait a month for a backordered part....." couldn't keep the repair order open that long ,but he didn't know how long it would take.
I received an email complete with tracking order stating the the repair had been resolved and had shipped out at 1:15 same day........I received the new plane Thur. afternoon(Jul,8th) pretty fast repair turnover, I was amazed. Also recieved an email that afternoon from Dave of Hobby Zone stating if I needed any more help of any kind give them a call ...they want to keep customers happy. Nice touch.
It is trimmed and ready to fly, if the weather cooperates. I'm taking it out at daybreak to avoid early park people on my maiden voyage ... Remember ....I have tryed to fly 5 different times all unsucessful due to elecf failures. I hope it's successful........Nice ending ....eh?.... HobbyZone is A-OK in my book !

I recieved the new tranmiter today mon 6/28. pretty fast from hobby zone. I just had a feeling it wasn't going to help so I proceeded and surprize... nope nothing happened. nada tx.
Called Horizon Hobby waited on line a bit over an hour. Rep said it must be the receiver. We will send you a new one you can put it in, trouble is there are no receivers to be had ...they are on back order till end of July. Take it or fill out the forms and have us do the repairs of course you cover the cost of shipping it to us. Called Hobby Zone and they verified nada recievers available. So I called some local retail shops,no receivers. Hobby zone even offered to modify the current design with and older design just ship receiver to them. This is a RTF ? More like a AMRTFS- ALMOST MAYBE READY TO FLY SOMEDAY.
I decided product support just might not want a repair rec on their desk for another month ,so I packed the whole thing up filled out their request forms and sent it back priority mail, a bit more than the 7.99 alotted. So now I will wait and see. I write this for my record and for any guy newer than me in case the same type situation comes up . This is probably too boring for the experienced guy.

Called hobbyzone at 8:00 this morning and of course the first guy sent me to the 2nd guy where I waited not too awfully long. I again explained the failure mode and the product expert determined it was a bad transmitter. So he is sending me a new one . But I still wonder if it may not be the receiver. What do you think rx or tx I'll know more next week.......

I got my new super cub today and put it together right away, so simple. Checked all the functions worked great . This will be the one I have fun with he said ...too soon. I did a bit of taxi'in around well because I could, then brought the plane in, 100F outside, to set the trim. Rudder was a bit off. While I had it running and checking etc I saw this button on the upper left side of the trans. So I pushed it and I hear a loud beep and the rx functions shut down.I have not been able to get it going since so that shoots this morn., and I don't know how much longer. Will try to get help from Hobby zone today see how that goes. So all I can say is Crap! There was nothing anywhere in the instructions explaining the transmitter controls and of course their not difficult except for that button. What the heck was it for a kill switch. Later after about the 3 or 4th viewing of the cd I see in a flash that the button was for dropping parachutes and stuff. OK now should that have shut down my rx...don't think so. THE END

My first entry. I am a beginner with this site and in r/c planes and helicopters. I haven't had much sucess with either there must be a lot more to it than I read.Mainly it's the quality of items I have been buying usually break on 1st flight, or they don't act as described. It's frustrating and costly . Maybe I have not been spending enough money to get a good plane or heli. oh well
