A handle is convenient for hoisting or carrying a flying boat like the ICON A5 in and out of the water. The handle can act as a place for a hook to hang from a ceiling rod or hook. With grooves in the handle you can orientate your model in a nose down or up attitude depending on your CG and where the hook is placed on the handle. Here is an example using the 52.5 inch ICON A 5. Music wire can be used but in this case normal coat hanger wire is used to support the 53.5 ounce (3.3 pound model). You will need wheel collars, plyers, a round file or Dremmel to make grooves in the handle wire.

This technique was adapted from handles that were made for an Apprentice, Timber and Valiant foamy models.

Quanum FPV Ground Station - Review (13 min 58 sec)

This Quanum power supply unit is a must for any FPV ground station and will turn most standard FPV monitors into a diversity receiver system with the addition of two standard FPV receivers such as the Quanum 5.8Ghz Autoscan FPV receiver . Utilising 4S Lipoly battery packs (up to 5200mAh) it can deliver 5V and 12V power outputs simultaneously and the USB port can even be used to charge up your tablet or smartphone.

This is a quality product that will allow easy set up and connection of power to your FPV receivers and monitor and can be mounted on top of any standard tripod.

There are two attachment points for Quanum 5.8Ghz Autoscan FPV receivers or Quanum 40 channel diversity 5.8Ghz Autoscan FPV receivers and it comes with a tablet/monitor mounting frame. Diversity reception and display can be achieved when using Quanum 5.8Ghz Autoscan receivers by connecting two of these receivers to the RSSI ports on the PSU which will then carryout the diversity function. (receivers are not included).

With reverse polarity protection, there are also two RSSI ports, two video-in ports and three video-out ports. A low voltage Lipo alarm system ensures that you will not be caught out with a flat battery and the LCD screen allows both programming of voltage alarm range as well as...Continue Reading

Review - AR5202-A Micro 4CH Receiver with 3-Axis Gyro & Brushless ESC

Here is a link to the Video:

I had a comment from a Subscriber that found this Micro Receiver and provided me with a link.
I went ahead and ordered one of these to perform another Brushless Conversion of a Micro Plane and this unit is not only a 4 Channel Receiver but has a built-in 3-Axis Gyro and a 4 amp Brushless Speed Controller.
It also operates on a 2S-3S LIPO ;-)
If this unit works well it will save a lot of space and a few grams of weight.
This is the initial review on the bench and if it works I'll perform the Brushless Conversion of my Micro Plane and take it on a Test Flight ;-)
Stay Tuned!

***I removed the links to this receiver and related equipment as this board has some issues ;-(

Yep Les Amis,

NOTATAZ : 19/20 Quel PIED !!!

Niveau : Confirmés
Les + : TRES Résistant, Puissant, Précis, Bonne conception générale !
Les - : Orientation de cam réduite ...

Totally forgot to post the upgrades to the Santa Quad airplane firmware!

It's all based on the excellent Silverware idea being to convert the drone TX/RX to be able to fly circa 2010 old classics, with modern 2.4GHz control.

Below are various flight demo's of the different firmwares.
The firmwares themselves are in the attached Zip folder and a HowTo set of instructions is included. Also, what the various code flashes will enable for a specific 'Style' as they're called.
Flashing is the same as for Silverware, however you currently flash works fine.
Included flashing instructions are mainly for Linux users, as that's what I run.
All safety's are still in place, such as throttle off with loss of signal, auto rebind, LVC.
An aircraft will bind at any angle, no need for a level surface.
The gyro is disabled, being that it can interfere with planes that have no dihedral or long wings (ask me how I found that out, as they say).
Range is up to 400ft, shown in the videos, everything is far better without 4 motors buzzing away next to the RX and when the antenna is pointing upward from the board.
Throttle on the left stick, ailerons/rudder/elevator on the right stick.

Wow. Doesn’t time fly Over a year since last post and a lot has happened. Have been spending a bit of time with our eldest son and his gokart. In May last year pit crewed at Hampton Downs race way. Xmas we drove 1000k to a his place and worked on the kart . There was some fibreglass work to do on the new nose cone he uses for road racing. I bought it home with me after we did the glass work and I am now doing the painting on it

The new kits come with 1/64" plywood die-cut for sheeting the cockpit. My older kit provides some rather thick balsa for this task. I like the the plywood idea and feel fortunate to have a relatively large sheet of 1/64" handy.

Next up, the forward cockpit.

My last post was about an ultra micro plane and a problem with a fried motor. A new motor was mounted and working normally. Less than a minute after the plane was back in the air, it suddenly wanted to gain altitude. For a moment, I thought that something was wrong with the elevons. But then I realized the throttle stick had no effect. The plane must have been flying close to full speed by the time I turned off the TX. After a few seconds the plane dived. On the ground, the motor spun slowly until the battery was disconnected. The smell of burnt circuits lingered, The plane survived with minimal damage but the board can't be removed without breaking the plane apart. So, that ends that.

The link below is to some initial footage with all parameters set to "Auto", in both Sunny and cloudy Outdoor daylight conditions.

The only real change was setting the Frame Rate to 60 FPS during the cloudy day to bump the Shutter speed up just a notch as the first footage seemed considerably darker and softer (somehow)...

Although this cam is a couple years old now and being cleared out at bargain prices ($60 CAD, Tax Shipping net, net) to me it is a tremendous value.

So far it, easily matches and in some respects exceeds the quality of my trusty Turnigy Eclipse 2K.
