Although I can't be there, I'm not so sure I want to eat @ the banquet. And I'm not talking about the cost... :-)

The Higgins Field 2014 Washington Warbird event in Benton City, WA was outstanding. We had attendees' from 5 hours away at the field. The weather was a tad breezy but not bad. Temps in the mid 80's to low 90's. The pilots came to fly & fly they did. Unfortunately, we had a few crashes but promises of rebuilding were in the works. We had some super nice Warbirds here. One pilot brought a 5cyl. Moki 250 radial in an FW-190 and put on some outstanding flights for the crowd. A Saturday 3D noon-time demo by Dave Mahan wowed a crowd of 150+ people. Sunday morning demo was a Turbine powered jet. Talk about impressive...
My 1st thanks is to the ladies that cooked for the event. Talk about great food! WOW! 2nd, I want to thank all the pilots & vendors that attended and supported the event. It wouldn't have been an event without their support. 3rd, a huge thanks to all the club members that worked to help make the event possible.
We had a bonus group (The Tri City Military Vehicle Club) show up with some restored WWII vehicles for display. They were impressive and the public loved them.
In no order, I want to thank the vendors that supported the event;
RC-Sport Flyer magazine, Magnum RC, Winged Stitches, Servo City, APC, Boca Bearing, Great Planes, Tru-Turn, SIG, Eagle Tree, BSI, Nick Ziroli Plans, & Smart Fly. They provided some super nice items for the raffle.
Judging from the attendees input, next year will be even bigger and better. I missed taking photos of

Just when I thought I knew it all, along comes this. How to tie your motor/engine to a transmission for optimal power output. Why the RC industry hasn't got on board is beyond me.

It appears the FAA, Homeland Security and Santa Claus are at odds with each other. In a surprise move today, the Federal Aviation Administration and Homeland Security joined forces to unilaterally deny domestic air space clearance to the traditional Christmas Eve sleigh ride by Santa Claus. While filing his flight plan for Christmas Eve, the FAA had new rules, regulations and stipulations that have to be met before domestic travel.
1. Santa must comply with a full body search and provide photo ID.
2. All his Reindeer must submit to body cavity examinations.
3. All of Santa's packages will need to be unwrapped for inspection.
Ron Burgundy, head bunghole searcher for the FAA, stated, "Look we understand its Santa but no one is above the letter of the law, it's a safety issue, if we let Santa through where does it end.
Santa's ride has been bringing joy and happiness to millions of children for generations.Irate parents worldwide are said to be absolutely distraught. "Who's going to eat the milk and cookies for a start?" asked one parent. Another distraught parent asked, "Who's going to put the coal into our elected officials stockings?"
Homeland Security has said that any penetration into American air space will be considered an act of aggression as part of their duty in keeping American airspace and borders safe. A spokesman from Homeland Security told us, "We just can't have every jolly, rosy cheeked, white haired fruitcake...Continue Reading

There’s just something so darn peaceful about big huge flakes gently coming down, 27degrees, no wind, no tracks, no vehicles, warm fire, good brandy, great wife, good food, covered porch and dead silence under a full moon in the mountains with big ol pine/fir trees surrounding you and a small gentle creek gurgling along.
Merry Christmas to ALL!

Got my hands on this bird and it's a 'must have'. Even with the base engine, the Park 450, the plane is an absolute joy to fly. Very scale but does have some umpff. Probably 12~15 minutes of air time on an 1800mah pack. Some careful piloting skills and you can land without bouncing. A tad touchy on takeoffs being a short tail moment but some practice will overcome that.

I've been using this motor for a
LONG time. BUT, I never would have thought I'd have pushed it as far as what I did. Why the motor even ran is beyond me. I managed to 'find' 3 or 4 balls from the two front bearings. I replaced the bearings/shaft and the motor runs like new. Yahoo baby!

I've always used those darn 7amp dry cell batteries in my flight box and they seem to die every year no matter how much care I give them. This year I decided no more can I tolerate them. I switched to 40c/5400Mah/7.4 LiPos in series to run the starter, fuel pump and glow driver. I also switched to a Graylor pump because it'll pump Glow OR Gas fuel. I run the yellow Tygon fuel lines and suck the fuel back to empty the lines on every fill. Takes like 6 seconds. No problems this year. Plus I can charge with my Sirrus charger if needed from the flight box. Best switch I've ever made..
Makes me wonder why I never seen this before. The weight went WAY down and I don't need a lead acid mower/motorcycle/car battery to pack around in a separate case.

We're all aware, or should be, of common sense accidents that happen within the hobby because we were lax or inattentive. But sometimes things happen outside the scope of our flying that are or should be preventable. Such is my case. I was truly negligent and the fault is of my own doing. It was a simple mistake but a mistake none-the-less. The end results are not final but I expect the effects to be on-going for a LONG time. As in for the rest of my life.
The real irony is that I have 26 years of industrial/commercial construction as a Union Ironworker with never such an accident. Zero body damage in all those years and this happens while working on a lawn mower for our field. I guess the odds finally caught up with me. Ironically enough, the damage didn't hurt until I went to the emergency clinic. They had to deaden the finger to stitch it back together. Lordy did that hurt! But since the bleeding wouldn't stop, I had no other recourse. Unknown what parts will fall off or what the final results will be but I'm sure it will affect that one digit forever.
I guess I'm posting just to say things happen, or can happen, outside of flying, and we all need to be cognizant of everyday things wherein the potential exists to injure us. This incident was only because my finger was caught between a manual safety arm and a safety switch due to MY lack of attention. No power was involved.

Well the Pauly went down the road to a new pilot. I'll probably kick myself in the backside for selling it. It was 'different'. But it was just to darn long for my house to get in & out. But lordy did it fly nice and look good. So I blew the funds on a new 1/4 scale H9 J3 because I have a new 20cc Zenoah that needed a home. Maybe I'll trick it out a little. No hurry on my end.. I still need to dump my Saito glow GP Cessna, SeaGull Decathlon and my electric E-Flite Super Cub to make some room. Yea, they're the old "I need that plane" condition that bites my backside for some reason. I can't say what the wife says..
I guess I'm on the 'ol RC adage of buy high and sell low side of things. Oh well...

21 days later and I still don't have my cowl from
General Hobby even though they've been paid. Maybe this company works for others but I'll never use them again. Sad part being they're only 3 days away via USPS. Just dandy.

And the proud winner of this weeks award goes to

I sent a purchase info request to them via their 'only online' email link, called four times and not a single response. It's been about two weeks now. Just dandy..

After 3+ months of trying with numerous e-mails to Pilot RC, sending them the images of the mis-fabricated parts, no responses and begging for a resolution, I'm done with them. Pilot is primarily into large scale birds but for some reason, either can't or won't support their 18% size. All I needed & wanted was my CF landing gear replaced because it's horribly warped (from the factory) and forces the bird to track left on the ground. Something like 6" left in 3~4 feet. That makes it a real bear for TO/Landing. I'm at a loss and not a happy camper. The sad part being, I'll never consider Pilot for any purchases for bigger birds over this. What ever happened to customer support?

Why is it a refutable vendor (or vendors) seems to have a don't care attitude in spite of numerous e-mails, phone calls and they KNOW & ADMIT there's a problem but just keep dragging their feet on not standing behind their products and won't/haven't offered a replacement item? I'm just right on the edge and ready to start bad mouthing at least two vendors that know what's up for 3 months and 2 months respectively. One vendor knows about the bad parts & the other has & knows about my bad parts but nary an offer one to replace the parts. Both are international/USA & refutable but I'm just getting more po'd every day with them.

All I can say is WOW! I sent them a pic and asked a question about the product. They sent me TWO of the items for replacement. Not high dollar stuff but still... How's that for customer service?

About 10:30 last nite, there's noise on the back porch. Then about 11, there's even more noise. Me & the wife checked out both noises. Pictures aren't the real deal because OUR critters ran when I opened the door & hit the lights for pics but I think you'll still understand...I even live in the city? We do have 3/4 acre lots but..
The buggers were doing their best to eat the paint off the bottom of the cat food bowls.

3 maybe 4? years ago I was able to buy a custom built set of skis for my 80" electric cub. Best I've ever seen but not anything that's in production. Never any snow to speak of since then to use them. Then today happened. I think the image tells it all. Depending on weather tomorrow... hmm?
