NB4plus Radio Highlights!

From FLSKY

Key Feaures

The 2CH (Ultra-fast) Mode, with latency below 3ms, ultra-low latency, allows users to precisely control responses in every critical moment and place themselves at the peak.

The 3.5-inch 320*480 resolution IPS high-brightness outdoor display can be used under strong outdoor light, and its dazzling brightness cannot be conquered even by the limits of sunlight.

The NB4+ controller features a “Removable” internal battery design, equipped with a standard large-capacity, high-quality 18650 battery. With a charging base, it can achieve over ten hours of ultra-long endurance, even in the face of RC marathons.

The data interface is optimized by the USB Type-C interface, which is more stable in connection and more versatile. Not only does it support coach mode, where dual-ended Type-C data cables enable interactive teaching, but it also supports head tracking functionality. By connecting a head tracking device via the dedicated cable, users can experience the speed and excitement of real life. The coach mode helps users pass on skills effortlessly, while the head tracking functionality immerses users in the action.rance, even in the face of RC marathons.

The function of customizing channel names is added, which makes display more intuitive and allows users to easily understand the function of each channel in real-time.

I built this over the last few days, 9mm, 6mm and 3mm depron, 36" span. A 2x upscale of a kit I make for E class motors. This is designed like my other large rocket gliders to use the 17 second burn Aerotech H-13 rocket motor. Standoff scale to save weight, right at 33.75 iz rtf, the motor weighs 7.25 oz. This is right at the sweet spot for a vertical launch. Constructed with foam safe ca+ and 3m-77 spray adhesive, all markings and black areas are hand cut vinyl with an exacto knife

Scale FPV Precision Aerobatics from RC Spitfire Cockpit Using Head Tracker (9 min 18 sec)

I understand not many people are into FPV, for various reasons: complexity, cost, planes look more interesting from outside etc. FPV is but one rabbit hole among many one can explore in RC hobby. I do want to share why I chose to dive in...

1. Double the utility for each plane - so I can fly both LOS and FPV. I don't have much storage space for many planes so adding the in-cockpit experience renews interest in a plane I am already familiar with flying LOS.

2. Experience the challenges pilots face flying the real deal on scale planes - for example, we read about the long cowling in front of Corsair cockpit blocking view to the carrier on straight-in approach. So fleet air arm pilots developed curved approach to land on carriers. Putting FPV camera at scale pilot eye position would allow one to experience the same challenges where a LOS RC flyer cannot.

3. Formation and dogfights - It's very exciting to see planes fly fairly close together as LOS flyers, but given the third person perspective, it's actually difficult to maintain safe separation at certain angles. With FPV flying especially with head-tracking, wingmen can maintain safe separation following formation training methods practiced by full scale pilots.

I've updated the wing changing the old LW-PLA to a larger foam XPS , Glass Fiber covered with an inner 16 mm CF tube. Also a sligh thinner airfoil is set.

The flight is highly improved in Forward Flight

This model can get difficult to see after a few seconds of full power. I use a streamer that is about 12 ft long and taped it on to the rudder. It reflects the sun and the flashes can be seen much further away than the model. I use two strands from metalic tinsel foil that is used as a curtain for a prop when taking photos. The material is strong, light, and I recently flew for 17 minutes on a 3S 300 lipo. Loops and other aerobatic maneuvers are easier to see. I wrap it up on a piece of cardboard and store it in the Conscendo box.

So this foamboard is not the easypeel type...

But why??? Why peel it?

Well i am going to make a sloper and i
am aiming for a high level of fit and finish. The first task is to get the wing material in spec: light and paper free.

Yep, tedious scrubbing with a toothbrush!

My wing plan is a direct copy of the NanoPlanes falcon , two sheets, a ply wing rib and cf spar.
Well i reckon i can do a close aproximation.

Anyhow, back to scrubbing!

Hi,
I have managed to lose the instruction manual for my OKModels Mace glider. Would any one out there have a PDF copy of the manual as I am trying to locate the CG of the plane.

Many Thanks

Does anyone know why my Goo-sky S1 will not go into idle up mode? I am a new helicopter pilot and have not had this helicopter for long. I have the rtf version.

Congratulations to the donors. Your efforts to grow the sport are working.
Not only did you see value in growing a youth program, but, you are helping the ESL do something about it.
Most of the donated ships will be heading to Norway with the F3J Junior Team USA Juniors.
If you are done with winches and have F3J ships, consider sending them as donations to the F3J Junior Team.

Thanks to the ESL Members who saw the opportunity to help grow the junior program, and donate competitive ships to the new juniors, a full team is heading to Norway. As of July 2023, the team had one potential player, now we have a full team, with a female pilot, and a bunch of alternates.
The junior program is working. Thank you, ESL!!!

Several of these pilots are new to RC Soaring and new to the ESL. Therefore, don't get parental hand-me-downs.
With practices often ending only because of sunset, these youth took the opportunity and several made the F3J Junior Team.
Now that these new pilots are heading NORWAY.

If you have any dormant ships, the team would appreciate some higher-performance ships to round the junior team fleet.

With cooperation from the ESL Officers, tax-deductible donations of ships are being facilitated.
These donations are being made under the ESL 501c3 program which is informally called the Phoenix Regen Program.
Donors who wish to participate can contact David Bradley, Sr., Chris Burns, Tom Broeski, or Duane Beck.

Simply coordinate the acceptance of the donated ship with Dave, and he will let the ESL Treasurer know it was received.
Your receipt for the tax-deductible donation can be processed upon receipt.

I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately, so I decided to dig out my old Graupner Topsy from my mom's basement and clean it up so I can hang it in my shop.

This Topsy was my very first R/C model. I received it as a gift from my grandparents back in 1972 when my sister and I spent a month in Germany visiting. I was 12 years old at the time.

My dad did most of the building & finishing, but I was there providing much needed moral support! It was originally powered by a Cox .049 Babe Bee engine and guided by a single channel Ace radio with a Bantam servo. After a while I swapped out the original Babe Bee fuel tank for a Golden Bee tank to get a little more flying time.

The Topsy was covered with silkspan and painted with Pactra Aerogloss dope.

Being over 50 years old the model had seen better days. But surprisingly the dope finish has held up pretty well. Aside from a little staining it wasn't too bad. To clean this thing I used Dawn dish detergent & water for most of it which did a decent job of removing most of the filth. For the more stubborn areas I used Windex. There were some stains that just didn't want to clean up, but hey, it's 50 years old for cryin' out loud!

The engine was completely gummed up from dried caster oil goo! So I disassembled it, dropped most of the pieces in an ultrasonic cleaner for 20 minutes which did a nice job of cleaning them up. The piston & cylinder and crankcase assemblies needed a bit of heat to get them apart. Once...Continue Reading

Another run featuring the return of erratic speed & cogging sounds & another day spent on repairs. To better diagnose the ongoing motor failures, a new phone screen allowed separate control of each motor with no paws. This with some cable wiggling narrowed the failure to a failed connector. It was pure luck that it made it the last 7 miles.

Those connectors were long time suspects & were already rebuilt once. The decision was made to rebuild them all again. Wrapping them up hasn't been doing the job.

The right motor got a full cleaning. The left motor got as clean as possible without a teardown. The windings were surprisingly still working.

The right one still made cogging sounds but the left one was golden again. Quite possible that the right shaft was bent in the last wreck.

The new tires went on.

There's probably very little impact it could have before the big day. There are 10 more days of good weather, at most.
