As predicted, we received 15 mph wind out of the North. Everyone lined up in the Northeast bowl (the wind had some NE component) and flew their brains out. The Northeast bowl, as it’s name implies, is a bowl shaped slope facing a NE direction on the hill, midway on the North side of the landfill.
As typical for a good day on the hill, we had lots of “almost mid airs” and two actual mid airs (no real damage). You always looked both directions on the slope before launching or landing. “Situational awareness” was a priority. We also had three people that encountered radio issues (2 on 2.4ghz Spectrum and one 72mhz JR). We never have radio issues and I don’t believe in coincidences. Not sure what was happening here. Especially since I was one affected. My Destiny started a descending right turn (failsafe?) after a minute into the flight and crashed landed on the slope (fuse broke in two spots). Battery tested OK and receiver still seemed to work on recovery. Not sure what’s going on here.
Oh well,

Till next week,

Fall is upon us and I was hoping for good air. Not so much… Apparently summer still has strong grip on Florida. Winds were about 5 mph and were all thermal generated. We mainly flew on the Westside. Although you could fly on any side, due to the fact that the thermals were the only wind/lift generators and were floating over the hill from all sides.
This coming weekend looks so much better. I ‘m hearing 15mph out of the North as a forecast. Yes!

I was out of town last week. Larry L thankfully took some pictures and wrote a blog. Thanks Larry for the writing and photography!
Mike

We had a very nice flying day on the 'Hill" Sat. with temperatures in the mid to high 80's and wind from the east at 8-12 with gusts to 15 as some small thermals came through.
It was not our typical day as winds, that usually increase in the afternoon, actually diminished by 1 PM.  Our group had many planks flying early but after a few walks of shame they were grounded as some electrics and those with lower wing loadings took over.

Saturday was Great! We had a straight on 15mph West wind. It never seemed to drop off nor vary off true West. Needless to say, we threw out all our slope “heavies”. There were plenty of foamies up with a little combat thrown in. No major crashes I can remember. On another positive note, Dan can be “struck off” the sick list. He was back up enjoying the weather and flying. He assisted Larry S and made sure Larry kept both eyes on his airplane. I made the “mistake” of letting Larry L shoot pictures while I flew. I say a mistake, because Larry shoots a lot more pics than I do. The end result is that I had way too many good pictures to edit, sort and post. So this week, I’m going to post the pictures without captions.

More fall weather has started to appear(for South Florida). We had a pleasant steady 12- 15mph breeze on the East slope. Of course, with these conditions we had a good sized crowd and lots of smiles. Thankfully, we had no rain and, because of the breeze, the heat and humidity were lower than previous weeks.
