I have here some photos from the Udvar-Hazy museum at Dulles airport as well as some from downtown air and space museum. I also took a trip to the National Botanical Garden. They were having an orchid show. Orchids are yet another hobby of mine. They had some very nice specimens with most in flower. I will have more thoughts on my trip (still here as a matter of fact). At any rate I hope some of you will find this interesting.

I bought this kit awhile back (couple of years?). At the time I purchased it mostly for the fans that came with it. They were 68/70 mm units. These were, IMHO, way more than needed for this model. In fact my Guanli Harrier flies on one of these. It is no speed demon, but, I love it. I got it from EJF. This is based on the old Ultrafly kit, which was manufactured by Haoye. They sold it as a pusher. The new kits today, after only a short time, are much better than this one is. Still I think I can do something with it.

At any rate I rediscovered the kit and decided to make it more MiG like. This kit is stand way off scale. It has several issues: nose cone does not look "right" to me, vertical stabs wrong outline for the MiG 29. This was marketed by Ultrafly as an SU-27 (It doesn't look much like the sukhoi either.....). The gap between the two ducts is going to have to be fixed. I do not know why it was set up that way.

To power it: some 55 mm HK fans I was not using along with Turnigy motors. At this point I am trying to throw something together from what I have on hand. I do this periodically for fun. You can come up with some interesting stuff given this restriction...... I find it to be amusing if not always successful. This will at least test this power system as I plan using it in an HC hobby MiG 29 I have (it is an attractive very nice kit). I will risk this one as a test rig/guinea pig.

Overnite we had a veritable blizzard here in upstate SC. Snowdrifts of 10 to 15mm have been noted with accumulations of some 20 to 25 mm reported. Currently we are snow bound with the roads impassable. The only good thing about it is that we have plenty of bread and milk on hand.

In keeping with tacky/vintage Christmas we have put up the aluminium trees this year. The large one I got about ten years ago for 3.00 (it had never been assembled!). The other ones I am not so sure.

I remember as a kid that our neighbors had one of these and I always thought it was super cool. My wife collects so many old ornaments that; well, its just a lot..... At any rate, I like the trees and we always have at least one person each year asking if it is for sale. It is not.

I guess it is time for the hot tea and cocoa. I need to make a cheese ball. Stuff to do etc... I need to remember it is time to enjoy and not get stressed out about. I wish for all of you to get lots of toys this year.

I enjoy our tacky Christmas and I sincerely hope you have a great Christmas as well.

A few of my orchids. Had to move them in when it got cold. These are in my jury rigged homemade greenhouse.

More Pictures.

A good many of these are detail shots and may or may not be of any interest. Some are photos of the Airport at Saratov (Capatob) on the Volga. There are some photos of the Geophysika prototype as well as landing gear shots of a MiG 25. Some are good quality some are not.... I especially like the P-63 (uprated P-39). There is also a PE-2 if I remember correctly. I think the low quality shot of the aricraft on the ramp at Saratov is an AN-24. I shoulda looked that up I guess. I do have some photos of the TU95, but, it is so large that it wouldn't fit into one camera frame.

Some other pictures. I think I may do the TU-22 though. My problem is indecision. That and the fact that my last scratch build was last year.......

These are some model possibilities that I have ben looking into. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. I have a lot of fans lying around looking for homes and can't decide. In fact would be interested in any suggestions. I really prefer soviet aricraft.
