I started off and got bit by the bug with a tiny 3 channel infrared toy helicopter.
One flight and that's all she wrote... Yes it is the most addicting hobby I have ever taken up. But it is so much fun and it is always bringing challenges. I think part of what gives it such a hook is the difficulty and complexity of flying. I am completely new to RC flight, and so many factors make for a very engaging experience.
I do prefer to fly outdoors whenever possible.

This lead me to my first serious purchase- The ESky Big Llama 2.4GHz.
It was hailed as being the first co axial helicopter that could fly in wind.
I found it in the (beginning) to be a disaster for a first 4 channel co ax. All I had flown prior were 3 channel.
It had way too much power and at that point I was still looking for a spring loaded left elevator stick. I spun it to the ceiling when I first fired it up!
The good thing is that I grew into it and have since done some major modifications that make it a very serious model to fly.
Even though it is co axial, it is still difficult and challenging. Part of this is due to the fact that 11000KV double brushless motors give it extreme lift and crazy power. To add more to the experience of flying, I added an Airy Turbo Aluminum extended main shaft. This makes the helicopter much less prone to blade strikes during aggressive flying, but in turn makes it much more sensitive. It will not hover without constant control and hands...Continue Reading
