SH .18 Engine - Throttle arm and carb loose, needles out of align.

This is apart of my first journal of many I bet, to cut a long story short I purchased a Cyclone Subaru 1/10 with a SH .18 engine, first nitro car i've ever had.

I got it really cheap which usually means there's a snag, the engine didn't run, batteries were left in the remote and in the car which leaked... and it looked like it came out of a rally, then neglected into the back of a shed.

What Happened

Once I cleaned it inside and out, I checked to try and get the car started, the needles were out of align and the carb was sliding even though it was a fixed bolt carb.

it would start when applying throttle control then scream out and the throttle arm was stuck completely forward.

How I Fixed it, the simple way.

1) First drain all fuel and take off any fuel lines, remove the two bolts holding the exhaust mani. Then take out the 4 bolts holding the engine to the chassis.

2) Loosen the bolt holding the carb and slide it out then remove the bolt holding the throttle arm and idle screw if it's not set right.

3) If the carb was sliding out like mine, place the carb fully open align with the main hole, screw the idle screw in and it should go in nicely to flush (just tipping the hole).

4) Important to do yet simple - place a needle in the carb and close the carb.

5) Turn on your TX and RX and center your throttle trim, then connect your servo rod to the throttle arm and note the...Continue Reading

About a month ago, I purchased a large RC plane in need of repair from a Craigslist Post in Portland. It was only $10. I am more interested in building than flying it at the moment. It has a 73" wingspan and 60" fuselage.

I plan to convert it to electric. So I have taken the gas tank out. I have put in servos for the ailerons, elevator and rudder. All control surfaces are working properly.

I am having trouble identifying it on eBay and with google searches. If anyone can tell me what it is or might be it would be very helpful.

Hope to use and E-Flite Power 60 Brushless Outrunner Motor With 80 Amp ESC. I would also like to know the best way to slant the propeller downward.

thanks

I fitted one of these units to my Boomerang turbine and had 20 trouble free flights. Flight 21 did not occur as the item caught fire on the ground, almost destroying my jet.
The unit was being powered by 2 off 3S 2200mAh lipos, the receiver had not been switched on. Close inspection of the source of the fire indicated that the source was the Bat 2 connection point, this had totally melted. Unfortunately the item must have shorted out, causing the lipo to combust, then spreading the fire to the other lipo. I have photographs of the item showing the melted area. Needless to say I am not impressed with this unit and will not be replacing it.
Has anyone had similar experiences with these units?

What a month it has been for drone users worldwide.. !

After the GoPro Karma, now the DJI Mavic is here, and things are starting to get crazy. By now you've probably seen thousands of new articles about it, but here's my take on it:

Hi everyone!

I'm Adam, 22 from the UK and a big enthusiast for Remote Control gadgets ever since I was young, back when the classic HPI savage was ripping up the streets.

I've just signed up to RCGroups Yippeee!!

Why?..

I need to meet like minded people to share my experiences and to see other people's progress in the RC World, I often abandoned the hobby due to the lack of people in my area who are into this sort of hobby but it doesn't matter to me no more, I can still have twice as much fun!

YouTube! Shared Experiences

That's right! I'm going to share all my experiences with YouTube weather it's videos of general RC days out or faults that I may come along, I'll be vlogging the whole process!

So come share some love, stay connected and follow my blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel! Visit my YouTube Channel Here

Most importantly, drop me a reply and say hi!

This plane is near-perfect. All I did was add carbon-fiber reinforcements to the rear fuselage/horizontal-and-vertical stabilizers.

Do you know how to bend balsa wood without destroying it? Even the balsa wood is endowed with the flexibility, you need to be careful while you need to bend it or shape the wood in a certain shape. The balsa wood is the favourite material which could be used to make models. Compared with the metal, it is more flexible. But unlike the metal which could be bent or circled as the requirements, you would have to take a few steps to make the balsa wood more flexible before bending it.

There are several methods could be used. One of the popular methods is trying to changing the moisture contained in the balsa wood. Generally, the moisture is spread uniformly in the wood. But while you heat some parts of the balsa wood, the moisture would decrease. You could light a candle to heat the wood. Pay attention to the distance between the wood and the fire. The space should not be too close or you would burn the wood and it should not be too far or the heat would not influence the moisture. With the decreasing of the moisture, the balsa wood would bend itself to the suitable radian.

Another method to bend the balsa wood is soaking the wood into the certain chemical liquid. There are several types of chemical liquids you could search on the Internet. But I would not recommend you to choose this method. Although this method is much easier and it is not in need of so much attention as compared with the first method, the liquid may release some scents which will make you comfortable....Continue Reading

I just learned something I should have learned when I first started flying rc planes - turn on the TX first before powering up the RX. I just got a no-name ESC that when I plugged the battery into the RX and then turned on the TX, the motor started spinning full speed and the throttle would not shut it off.
Fortunately I was testing the motor without a prop so no damage done.
From now on I will turn my TX on first and turn it off last.
