good range of hardware included
Strong packaging to protect
gotta love those big tip tanks
nice one peice wing
at least they had a go at painting the pilot !
note the carbon rod to reinforce the wing
plastic inserts for the retracts
two hs55s fit in the area on the wing for the aileron servo without cutting anything :) if positioned like shown.
I have yet to put the wheel wells in place, but the wing is now glued to the fuse and will do that at some point.
original position of the two 4s 2200's
This setup works...one up front in nose and one on the wing. The RX is on velcro so its moveable to take the rearward lipo out
carbon tube (mine only had one !) replaced with hardwood block
supplied thin wood and foam removed
Hardwood blocks are better for grass strips
spruce servo rail guides the retract linkage after it locks, stops stalling the servo
Actuator rod for nose gear.
I think the 'J' model was probably the best of the F-89 variants.
The 'C' model was probably the best looking of the F-94 variants.
The business side.
The hardwood stick in place. Some foam removed to get it to sit at the correct level.
A rectangle of blue plastic sheet cut to cover the rails and not the gear or wheel well could be stuck down to greatly improve appearances.
Prying out two previous servos left the hole too big. I epoxied the ply over the hole and mounted the servo to that with screws. The angle relieves stress on the pushrod.
dig er ouit
Gear Blocks, open up the strut channel.
Gear in place
Lower front nose section
depressions are ?
Package arrived from FEDEX in pristine condition. Box is good heavy grade cardboard and provides good protection for its contents.
Inside the box, everything is well wrapped in a foam fabric and also individual plastic bags inside the foam.
Box contents all laid out. Everything appears to be here and in good condition.
I couldn't resist putting some parts together for inspiration. Looks pretty good. Maybe a little better than I expected.
The only thing that I found on initial inspection of parts is the leading edge of the wing. It is squared off , not rounded.
This is referred to as the intake set. The instructions are less than clear as to how and where they go.
Intake set installed.
Fin, rudder and stab with servos installed and glued to the aft fuse.
If you look closely, you can tell that the flat area is caused by trimming away 'flash'.
You can see the epoxy/microballoon mixture that I used to strengthen the factory mount. Also where I relieved material for steering arm.
HS 81 servo for retraction and TowerPro SG91R for steering.
Ready for Sortie!
Sorry for the pic quality... or lack thereof.
Looks awesome on approach...
Im not feelin' the Force in this dude... :D (this picture belongs to Jimmy_H)
Wife just completed the replacement snow man pilot. Will dress up the cockpit while my new 4s and Arf comes in
Will try and split canopy or maybe use two one for flying and one while on flight line
this looks to be a decent pilot. Its for the Tamjet F16. might go in this F9F and replace the mummy.
Right Side aileron 2-3mm wide space
Elevator tip sitting flat on the table
Left Side aileron 1mm space
Slight Dihedral - front view
Elevator sitting upside down flat on the table
mig 29 retract pack $20 all in
nose leg good fit only minimal mods required
mains again very close fit
only minimal foam to cut out
only had to cut 17mm from the mig 29 legs to make them fit snug
voila, note the mig 29 wheel a bit chunkier than the lander and better for our grass strip
Snow man has lost his head
Their was some cutting of the foam to put the new Tamjet 1/12 F16 pilot
After the proper trim of the two cockpits was able to install the two together
Thought that I could get away with just a little trim but had to remove more than I expected
Final trim as made as shown
Just some painting and should be fine
Pilot will be going through some extensive training on what to do in case of land gear failure. Am having made some new canopy's so can display pilot with an open or closed canopy
Now, that looks good
FOD on cheater hole lip.
Best pilot I could come up with
Second vote for Tamjet 1/12 scale pilot
retract for executive 'lear' jet
same height and almost identical footprint
A 4S takeoff and climbout!
Gear up and climbing hard
Coming in hot!
Panther over Sonoma
Man oh man, what classic lines! I LOVE flying this plane so much!
If your stock ESC is the same as mine ... 60 amp is its rating!
113 km / 70 mph
Box is well wrapped Inside has saran wrap over total box 3 times. Worse than trying to open a Christmas package
Looking at the two tail assemblies. Top one from the orginal epo and the yellow is the super epo. The super epo has a finer finish.
It is hard to be able to tell differences by pictures
You have to zoom in closer to see the differences via pictures
Still the Snow pilot but has gray uniform.
More attempts to show differences Yellow is the new super epo
Two great EDFS that we flew today
Broken fron retract.
Velocity fan with ARC motor. This is a tracker fan so it works great in the Panther set up. No wires running underneath the fan housing.
Scratch build cockpit... the original one is orrible.. but is the only shadow on a sunny plane!
Tape to protect the plane... I use gear only for take off but I prefer grass landings
Pilot carved from the original Capt. Blob
Lift handles made from 0.032" wire and CAed into foam
This picture has a good shot of the pilot. Mine looks like Andre the Giant. I either found them a bit to large or to small.
Here is a picture of what the box looks like. They raised their price to $7.99. There two jet pilots in each box.
Joe and his steed!
