Puddle Twin 66%.pdf
Roland Merks Box Fuselage.. no bending required
this thing is huge!
the nose did not go well.
4s A123 then the "Y" then back to the ESC. I think I will try 1 pack for 1 ESC...
Building Instructions Puddle Twin.pdf
building has begun
carbon reinforcements in tail
I used 1/4x1/4 bass wood for motor mount sticks
let there be lights!
MB's Monster on one of these cute rides on the step, a beauty !
heads up rc-2409-18T.doc
Printed this off and multiplied by 5, gives 1.35 mtr span.
6mm depron and UHU por used through out.
Block polystyrene for sanding of nose shape.
Mating up wing and fuselage/hull, will glue rx to wing within fuselage and make depron box around it.
False floor, (bilge??) with frames to keep water tight compartments.
Basic 6mm depron boxy fuselage laying on lower 6mm wing panels for c/g and step positioning.
c/g forward of step, @ main spar position.
Middle and rear of hull precovered with clear document laminating film/foil. So easy to bend depron when precovered.
1/16th basa and depron nacelles. 5mm square sruce main spar. Sealed floor fitted in first bay and radio bay, solid frames to side and floor joints oversealed with tacky PVA type hobby glue, dries clear like rubber cement but is water soluble until set.
Bigger than a small tartan "Cat"
Build area. I used WBPU and tissue covered whole nose back to step.
Tail group done, windscreen/wing fairing on and basic orange sprayed on, all other colours brushed.
Waiting for colours to dry then overcoat with clear gloss WBPU.
Rudder and elevator servos to fit and connect, then off for flight testing, soon I hope.
Taken about 500mAh charge for 2-3 mins flying. Hatch is tape hinged and over taped.
Ouch! Nose punched in and a few shock wave splits in fuselage, tough stuff this depron.
Too much 1/2 MVsquared, radio and all gear ok, wing just a ding in the left tip phew! Live to fly another day.
Aventura Twin missed the pond. Maybe the trees did "jump" out!
Off with the old!
On with the new! Once I rub it down I will recoat with WBPU and repaint.
Re-used the original sanded nose block, new side panels made up and some "no more nails" 5 minute filler.
All done, good to go.
Tiny gap for 7" dia prop. Top 6.5", right 6", bottom 5", and left 7".
Corflute Puddle Monster
Corflute Puddle Monster
Nice shape tip rib.
Not so nice outer span section. Flat in places.
Slat taped on to try to fix bad shape.
2 9 grm servos positioned for lead connection to RX.
Flaps from 5mm Depron, doculam both sides, lower piece is longer as used as the hinge material.
Flaps are approx 8x1.1/2 " or 200x 40mm. Land position shown.
View of Slat slot and Flap @ Land. Works a treat! Just need more fingers on my lefthand. Post flight pic.
Everything in the box except a nicad pack.
I can feel some creative weight loss coming on.
Don't fly with these guys! I've met them!!
Early morning SAR mission, still from preproduction.
Helloooo! Anyone in there? No problems with the controls from corrosion, yet!
Perfect weather at Tinaroo dam, north Queensland, Australia.
just a few of the planes early on the first day(puddle monster in foreground)
a great planes Seawind(nitro) truing to take off! Never got airborne all weekend :-(
can't wait till she is completely dressed up!
She is really cute, isn't?
MB at work... nice to watch, really! :D
She's got the wing! What else to say? :D
left side of Puddle
her nose from front-left (I still need to highlight the lines..)
right side.. looks better than the other
it fits her :D
hard work :D
she looks like a joker..
the big pink lady... well, the red blurs down the wing are not supposed to be there...
do ya like her?
Ouch! Self inflicted.
A few minutes work with knife and glue and she's as good as new.
The "well dropped wing."
Top skin off.
Tidy up and sand off the old glue. Note, there was never any ribs in here.
New lower skin extension from 5mm depron. Main spars and leading edge still servicable. Tip chord now 170mm, was 100mm.
Return of the Tartan cat, Hello I haven't seen you for 7 weeks, Feed me NOW!
New spars in on top of lower skin.
New tip and root ribs with new top skin 3mm depron. R/H shown.
L/H skin going on in one piece.
TaaDaa! Leave till set, trim to size and serve imeadiatly.
I read a mates copy yesterday, an excellent edition. Capt.W E Johns article is interesting.
How's that for easy airbrakes? Just waiting for the filler to dry and sand back to a smooth radius tomorrow.
Much better aerofoil shape, at least L+R are the same.
Protective strip 1" wide applied over leading edge.
Planview looks more Puddlish than widgeon now, just hope she stops the droopy wing, maybe an age related problem...hmm?
New frame same profile as old leakers!
Side area simmilar.
New plan view shape.
Should be less draggy but same bouyancy as the wetted area is the same.
MkII wing complete. Yellow on floats is some old WBPU mixed with yellow acrylic I used ages ago, only WBPU I have left.
Got a new can of Dayglo orange paint too. I was going to put the 'Coco Pops' logo on the side but ran out of time. It could have been a Cereal killer?
"Something for the weekend Sir?" 1 of 2 eDVR's on the Stranny for tomorrows grand day out. The other one is just above the R/H tip float. Isn't UHU Por great!
nothing is really visible here.. but will soon :)
not attached but looks cute, doesn't she? :)

This is the plans rolled up. I had to put two tables together to tape it up.
rolled out on the lawn. My 23 year old son is standing by it to get an idea of the size.
Another shot. I think my son is thinking I think his dad is crazy.
PT Box Fuselage Untiled.pdf
