Basic components of the wing. The wing is to be assembled on a jig.
Basic wing structure complete and removed from jig. Wing is built in three sections.
Wing panel with aux spar and landing gear block installed.
Upper and lower sheeting and capstrips installed. Leading edge installed and sanded to contour.
Aileron torque rod installed.
Inboard trailing edge installed. Aileron hinged (not glued in at this time) and set in place.
Dihedreal braces epoxied to main spars. Braces are made from 2 pieces of 1/8" 5-ply epoxied together.
Fuselage box components. Doublers are glued to fuselage sides and to main bulkheads.
Main bulkheads epoxied to fuselage sides. Aft wing mounts are epoxied in place.
Firewall, auxillary bulkheads and stabilizer saddle installed.
Fuselage top sheet installed.
Forward bottom plate and tank cover mounts installed. Elevator and rudder control rod outer tubes installed.
Tank cover set in place and fuselage lower aft sheet installed.
Wing center section in palce on fuselage. Forward wing pegs installed. Aft wing mount drilled and tapped for 1/4-20 wing bolts and wing bolts temp installed.
Bottom sheeting installed on center section and counterbores are made for recessed wing bolts.
Servo rails installed and top sheeting installed. Cut out made for aileron servo.
Outer wing panels epoxied to center section. Wing is now basically complete and after filler (light weight spackiling compound) is applied then sanded, wing will be ready to cover.
Fiasco Flap (latest version)
Engine is temp mounted. In this case I use a "dead" engine for spacing. Spinner ring is tack glued to the spinner backplate using 3/32" balsa spacers. This assembly is then installed on the engine.
Cowl side is glued in place to fuselage and spinner ring.
Cowl top and bottom are glued to fuselage and spinner ring. Once dry the spinner backplate and engine are removed.
Balsa triangles are glued in place in the cowl.
Cowling is sanded to shape.
Main turtledeck bulkheads glued in place.
Turtledeck sides and remaining bulkheads installed and glued in place.
Turtledeck top sheeting installed.
Ventral fin installed.
Empennage components assembled. Hinges in place (not glued in), elevator and rudder sanded to a taper at trailing edge.
