The sanded and wheeled plane. Now I need a nose cone and some wing pods. The nose cone is already laminated and almost dry enough to sand.
Here's the mounted gear mount :) Only the end of the block shows.
4" back seems about right and should be far enough behind the CG for balance. It's not quite the stock location but I can hide the mount here.
rear gear started by slotting a 4"x1/2x1/2" basswood block.
The cockpit is roughed in now
The bottom has been sanded and is starting to get there.
and a spackled tail
Is this enough spackle? I'm not very good at finishing a plane.
This got mixed in with the pictures. It's a Shumate F-18 that I'm also building.
This is my current work area, shaping the nacelles. I closed off the front of these mostly. The inside will be painted plack.
Hmm, no canards yet, and no tails. I'll glue on the tails last even though they are completely shaped and sanded now.
It's really not upside down, but sure looks that way. Notice only one of the rear engine covers is done.
A top view of the wing/fuse blend. I've spackled amnd sanded this area about 5 times now, and need to do it one more time to fill some low areas.
And one more project that is maybe 75% done.
One of my other projects that has taken a lot of time. It's a Shumate SU-37 and requires a lot of sanding to shape.
This is the nearly finished fin along with some missle from a crashed jet. They are about the perfect size to make wing pods from :) I'm not using beanie's stabilizer mechanism, so I'll get some pics of mine when it's done. I'll be using a servo in the fi
This just is not my night. I like using stick mounts and this fin is perfect for that.
I screwed up here. The fin hasn't been finished or glued down, but I glued the skin down. Oops.
It's almost there.
All the edges are sanded down to give a sharp edge when glued down. I also reshaped the short side for a better fit
Another view of how they don't fit well.
This is where it got harder. You can see that these pieces don't really fit well and may need compound curves to fit right.
Here you can just see the front gear mount and steerring setup. I always have to have landing gear on any plane. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to mount the main gear yet. The F-9F has the landing gear way out on the wings where it retracts in
Sheeted bottom view. The shape is not exactly right but depron just doesn't bend into the exact shape.
Hmm, what's that sticking out? It's the shaft for front landing gear.
Skinned front fuse. I think these came out pretty nice.
Laminated tail with no wood yet. Where do the 3mm doublers go? I didn't get a pic of those.
I had to do this!
big hole will hold two batteries if necessary
electronic goodies that need cooling
