HITEC 2.4GHz issued !!!

Hitec is proud to introduce our new flagship radio the Aurora 9. The Aurora 9 is a “pure digital” 2.4GHz system offering real-time response yet it is also compatible with the Spectra PRO for PPM and PCM Operation. The Aurora is a true 3 in 1 radio with sophisticated programming for sailplanes, helicopters and all kinds of power planes. The Aurora 9 also features a backlit 5.1 inch touch screen display, 30 Model memory, assignable switches and customizable programming menus. With all these features and a price that can’t be beat, there is no doubt the Aurora 9 will become the radio of choice for the most sophisticated pilots.

Hitec is proud to introduce our first 2.4GHz consisting of the Spectra 2.4, 2.4GHz transmitter module and Optima line of receivers. The Hitec 2.4GHz system is capable of converting most existing Hitec Module radios to 2.4GHz and utilizes the latest Adaptive Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology. Other features of our system include Telemetry capabilities and our exclusive BODA(Boosted Omni-Directional Antenna) system. Providing the hobbyist with latest technology at an affordable price has always been Hitec’s primary goal, a goal that we have now achieved in 2.4GHz technology.

Doesn't matter how sensitive or boosted your single Rx antenna is
if you block it behind a big motor or battery or some carbon.

Just looking at the picture, it would appear that the antenna is a separate unit that is designed to be mounted external to the model (with CF fuselages in mind perhaps).

Still, with Hitec's record for version 1.0 problems and the fact that none of the 2.4GHz gear released so far as been without "issues", I'd wait 6-months to a year before investing in the Aurora.

I can't say that the transmitter design spins my wheels either. They had a chance to "think outside the square" with a brand new transmitter release but it still looks decidedly "plastic" and will be just as much a PITA to keep clean as the Eclipse 7 with all those deep grooves and recessed bits.

It's a shame that Multiplex didn't have some input into the aesthetics.

Sure, putting the antenna on a long lead is an improvement over
those with a single short antenna on the Rx box, but any single
2.4Ghz antenna with a 30mm long active element there will always be
*some* way to block it, especially around a carbon fuse. Also keep in mind
that with its big dongle on the end (guessing a dipole ground plane), you
now have to punch a pretty big hole through the fuse to get the antenna
outside. Just seems a step backwards this late in the game, especially
compared to what Multiplex is doing.

Glad to see that both have telemetry options though.

We used to say "a day late and a dollar short". Is this a case of 2 years late and a lot of dollars short??????

Too bad they didn't get cross licensed with Futaba on FASST. That would of been one heck of a blow to Spektrum / JR.

Perhaps they are compatible and are waiting to announce until release so as to not damage current Futaba sales.

Interesting...to say the least.

By June all the major players in the radio market will have full-function 2.4 solutions available.

Makes me second-guess my planned switch to Airtronics and their SD-10G...

I don't think Futaba and Hitec combined can hurt Spektrum - they are so far out front it won't be until something other then 2.4ghz is used before they can even hope to catch up.

That said its nice to see Hitec finally release a 2.4ghz product.

Don't agree. Too bad they are late but I for one have one Spektrum receiver and many XPS receivers, a JR TX and a Futaba TX, with the modules. If Hitec was to provide the best "value", ie. inexpensive equipment and great quality and performance I would probably migrate back and so would others, especially if they offered the "Spectra" and a receiver for under $100(hint, hint) like Spektrum did for Futaba TX's..

that dongle looks a lot like the coaxial doohickey found inside a lot of wifi antennas, take the shrink tube off and it should be no more than 4mm in diameter. i think ACT or weatronics are doing the same thing. what i really want to know is how much better is this than just a piece of coax with the braided shield stripped off the end?

Like this?

That's about as omnidirectional as XPS' spherical radiation antenna

Mike, Will this work in the Eclipse 7? When will we see it for sale?

I have the Airtronics RDS8000 and have heard of no "issues" with it. Have you?
