The fast and fun Funjet!!!

Well I took some video of my newly glassed funjet and put a nice powerplant in here. I have heard comments at the field like holy and bat outta hell so I decided to doppler it and see what the dealio was.

Video is here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=995950

I get:

Pass 1: 145mph
Pass 2: 145mph
Pass 3: 150mph

I'm sure if I had more time and my camera wouldn't auto shutdown at 3mins I could easily get to 155mph. As well, I can always go up another cell and add some more power!!! After a short cool down run all components came down pretty cool. What a great all around setup!

Enjoy!

Link is fixed.

Thanks getboosted...

Phil - I set the LVC at 12V and it never hit it. I believe its hitting around 13.5V and doing about 1kW. I need to Eagletree this setup and post it up.

fly_boy99,

My MOTOCALC simulation shows the same 1000W for your 4S 2800KV setup in static condition (on ground)....nice.

According to that simulation; Due to the diameter to pitch ratio of that 6X4 prop it will lose (unload) roughly 1/3 of the watts by about 115 MPH.

What is your level flight speed approximately?

I'm sure there is a lot of speed to gain with a better prop.

The first two runs were pretty level and I had to go out pretty far and avoid a heli flying at the other end of the field.

My thoughts are that the 6x4 sport prop isn't really 6x4 because if you calc it you would be alot slower but hey video doesn't lie.

p.s. CK also did a video with the 36" Lightning with the same power system and went about the same speed or a little faster.

It's all listed at the beginning of the video but I'll post it again:

ARC 28-47-1.5 (with Heat Sink)
Suppo 100A ESC (programmed accordingly)
5A BEC running at 6V
6 x 4 APC Sport Prop (balanced)
4S 3250mah lipo (25C rated)

add your favorite RX and go fly!!!

This setup pulls anywhere from 70-85A depending on your pack. It's typically right around 1kW (that's 1000 Watts) and I typically only launch at 1/2 throttle.
