Started building the frame over the motor compartment, took most of the day trying to get the curves just right. It should fair in pretty good; Next step is to plank it and install some cross frames underneath. I used some shims on the sides to leave space for the hinges.

I love the balsa construction!! It will be so light and strong. Make sure you use plenty of penetrating epoxy!! I use Smith's cold weather formula. It's like water and really goes deep.

Tollytime,

I have not heard of Smith's cold weather formula epoxy. Where did you buy it?

Spent some time today building the doors over the motor. I planked it yesterday and found it to be out of square; so I removed the planking and sanded it down to the frame and started over.

This time I squared the frame and glued the corners to a piece of plywood to keep it square. I found a picture of the doors on a Gar Wood opened up, so I built the frames on the underside of mine to look like the original. All I need to do now is fair it to the deck.

Went to the lumber yard Saturday a picked out a great looking piece of Honduras Mahogany 4" wide 1" thick 9 ft long for a cost of $36.00. Today I cut off a 34 inch piece and sliced it into strips 1.5 mm thick, it yielded 25 pieces which I will cut each piece into 3 strips 7.5 mm wide. This will give me 75 strips of mahogany and when sanded down it should be 1 mm thick. Next I will put a coat of thin epoxy on the balsa then start planking.

The door is open and the welcome mat is in place. Please do come out to Hansen and run your boats. Even your sheetboat.
