3 View Help Please

Hi all,
No, I haven't gone mad. A friend asked if I could locate any scale drawings of a Consolidated N4Y-1 model 21 or 017 or PT3. I beleive they're all very similar ( so he tells me), so any of them would help.
Looking for photos has tempted me to the PT1 though- maybe.

Pete

Peter:
This is all I could find in my "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft". The drawings are very small; I've already doubled them here.

Peter,

I know the San Diego Air and Space Museum at Balboa Park has a PT1. If you do a search you should be able to get information on it. I have a few photos of it that I'll get out and post here for you. It's a beauty!

Hmm. . . I hope I'm looking at the right planes, so I think I found a few photos.

Take a look at: http://www.aerofiles.com/_conso.html for a collection of photographs, though no 3 views.

This is one of the 017 planes I found:

Thanks guys, it all helps.

Planeman,
Not much use to my friend, but a great help to me. Not much trouble cooling that engine. There's just something about this plane that says,'Build me'. Hopefully, I'll find the time to do just that. Love to see some pictures of your model.

Pete

PT-1 and PT-3

I've been collecting information on the PT-1 and PT-3 for about 3 years. As far as I can find, the only major differences are those required by replacing the 180 hp direct drive Wright-Hisso engine in the PT-1 with the Wright J-5 for the PT-3. There are also differences in the tail surface outlines. In pictures, differences in tail surface outlines between individual examples of the PT-1 are also shown. The best 3-views I have found are the Nieto PT-3 drawings originally published in Model Airplane News, I think in 1952, and now available from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. There is another PT-3 drawing by Harold Osborne, available from Bill Northrup Plans Service, which I do not have. Drawings of the Wright Hisso and J-5 engines are available from Bob Banka's Plan Service, and there are the excellent models of the J-5 in various scales from Williams Bros. A 19 inch span rubber powered PT-1 model was published in Flying Models, Nov 1970. There is a 36-inch span rubber powered PT-1 model by R/N models, for which plans are available from the Aerodyne web site (www.freeflightmodels.com).

The few PT-1 drawings I have found, some of which are already seen in this forum, are not very detailed and do not all agree. There are a lot of PT-1 and PT-3 pictures available on the internet, and I have a set of rather low quality pictures (I forgot to take my flash) I took of the PT-1 at the USAF Museum at Dayton a couple of years ago.

Working from the Nieto drawing, I have used the info I have to put the Wright Hisso engine on the PT-3 airframe. I have a 1/18 scale model of the PT-1 about 90% complete. Span is 23.5 inches. Building activity is suspended, as I am in the middle of moving my home a distance of about 35 miles. Low-res images of the model drawings can be found on my web site at www.morgancotn.com/aero. There is also a listing of links to info on the internet that I have found. I also have drawings of 1/12 scale PT-1 and PT-3 models (span 34.5 inches) about 95% complete. Lately I've been trying to put together a dummy J-5 engine using the 1/12 scale Williams Bros J-5 cylinder heads around various geared electric motors. My drawings are done in Adobe Illustrator, but I can export dxf versions. It's going to be a while before I start building either of the 1/12 scale models.
