Thanks Martin. That's low amps on the 16/30/2. The watts would be low then? 1KW only.

Expected output? You can tell I can fly but not how things work.
16/30/2 MiniFan 6S4900mAh 45A = 999W
16/30/1 MiniFan 4S3700mAh 88A = 1302W
16/30/1 HetFan 4S3700mAh 99A = 1465W

I've got Flightpower EVO 25 6S3700 (25C) and Zippy-R 6S3700 (30C).

This is the frustrating part of being on the bleeding edge. The vendors of these motors don't exactly help because they don't publish the max amps and therefore before you buy you can't be totally sure the cells you have invested in will take the power you're trying to suck out of them.

The Hoffman Wild Beast apparently puts out 1700W on 4 cells. Amusingly no where do they quote max amps. I would suppose we're talking over 100A and that the cells will have to be genuine hi C rated and large capacity.

Someone said 170A for the 16/30/1 on 5 cells! Blimey - what cells would I need for that or maybe I'd need a cold fusion nuclear reactor.

So far I'm not hearing that there is a Mega that'll deliver 1400W+ for 6 cells or am i missing something.

Why stop at 6s?

My setup: Mega 16-25-4 on 12s (2250mAH) @35A = 1500w

Motor & ESC stay nice and cool and can run at these power levels the entire flight. Flight times at this power level: 4 minutes. With varied throttle: 8 minutes.

I wouldn't be able to cram 12S2500 into my Ultrafly Spear Dan. What model is that in?

That's the problem ... some people can't do the math of what it takes in batteries to get 1500W of power.

And then surprise surprise they end up with a weight problem and cracks all over the place from their great landings

Btw except under the most unique circumstances, a bigger fan and a bigger motor is almost always the way to go. Better efficiency, better quality, better durability, better sound etc.

...and that's exactly why I thought of putting a 90mm fan in my Spear...but I didn't get any support...

...but seriously, I'm coming around to the idea I should go with a 4 cell, high capacity setup that can take the amps and will keep the weight down. A reliable high powered 6 cell setup in a 70mm fan doesn't look doable.

It's best to start out with the batteries. See what you have, what fits without escalating the weight, and see what C rating you can get reasonably out of them ...

From there determine the motor size and wind ...

If you are set on 6S 2500, then the max you can get reasonably out of them is say 20V x 50A (20C) = 1000W.

Here´s a video of my 16/30/1 Lubach.
http://www.rcmovie.de/video/574817c1...Martin-Hoeller
a lot of flights so far.

MMhhh looks like with your 6S packs there is no right motor for >1400Watt Mega motor out. 16/25/2FAI is "only" 1260W. Other motors are 4S motors (30/1 and 35/1), 35/1 can handle 5S(but not 6S I think, mmmhhh or) and for the 16/30/2 you need 7-8S to get 1500W.

Perhaps I can bench test a 35/1 on 6S tomorrow evening.
Your 3700mAh cells are big and heavy so no small plane.....
With own fans modified, MotoCalc says 35/1 6S MiniFan 113A(2,2kW) HetFan 131A(2,6kW)
with 4S HetFan I get my 70A from the bench, so it might be near that...
MiniFan could do it right. 67500rpm

regards Martin

You'd be surprised Martin. The Spear can handle the 6S3700 packs easily but it is a wing which is the primary reason I guess. It wouldn't work in something like an F-16.

I loved that video. Great to see some intelligent use of the throttle. Awesome model. I'll add it to my 'must have soon list'. Thanks for the numbers. It's all very interesting stuff and good to hear practical use of these motors.

I want to put a disclaimer out on this, i have no experience with 70mm fans. But based on the kv range you guys are looking at something to consider is the new ARC 28-58-1 which has a kv of 3150. This might be a good compromise between the mega 16/30/1 and 16/30/2. And its rated for very high wattages like all arc motors

Given there's no perfect motor for 1.4KW+ on 6 cells I've opted to get the Hoffman Magnetics Wild Beast from Grant at FoamyJets.co.uk. No escaping that fact that I'm going to have to invest in some nice 4 cell packs to get the performance I want. The Mega 16/30/1 will be next on my list but at the moment the Euro is so strong the price is ridiculous. At a push I should be trying it out in a couple of weeks.

EDIT: Co-incidentally 'flythetailoff' PMd me last night we some Beast and Wild Beast numbers. I'm sure he won't mind me sharing. They are probably on another thread but since they are numbers to drool over...

Wild Beast, Schubeler DS-30, 4s 3850mah TP V2 pack, Castle 125 esc. (around 113 amps)=160+mph
1700+watts

Beast, Wemo Pro 480 fan, 5s 3850mah TP V2 pack, Castle 125 esc. (around 108-113 amps)=160+mph
1700+watts

Beast, Schubeler DS-30, 5s 3850mah TP V2 pack,
Castle 125 esc. (100amps)=160+mph
1700+watts
