1970 Olds Holiday: 455 cubes, 395 ponies and 500 torkies! The speedo only went to 125 but I bent the needle. It would shame any of todays so-called muscle cars at the lights. 0-60 in 6-ish. And it was a family sedan. Tex.

Bill, I thought the '69 DeSade came standard with a full complement of leather goodies. I think the electic seats were optional, though.

Hey flailing, didn't you hold the the record for a while back in the late 70s. I think I may have seen a poster of you on that bike after you set the record.

Fred--
You may be right, mine was "full-house" and I don't recall what was optional. ![]() Heh heh. --Bill |

Wish I still had my first car. 1956 Chevy Nomad. PS, PB, PW, 4 on the floor. 301 cubic inces (destroked 327), power-pack heads, big 4bbl carb and headers. Gas was 27 cents a gallon.

FIAT 850... Lemme see; a guy up the road has a rust-free 850, my buddy has a 1500 Calblock aluminum, could I really build myself an OT 1600 to kill myself in? Corvette acceleration to 100 mph, FIAT handling...? Naaa, I'm too old...

Lancia Delta Integrale - never owned one, but had a couple of drives in one a few years back - the first two minutes frightened the c**p out of me, but after that it was the most exciting thing I'd ever done. Unfortunately, when the time came that I could afford one, Lancia pulled out of the UK due to bad press and consequent low sales, giving the Italian version of the 'Up Yours' sign, and only second-hand LHD examples were available. So it remains a dream. (Had a Dedra Turbo, though - nice and quick)

I'm glad this thread hasn't go down the "this make is better than that make" road. (No pun intended). ![]() I've always wanted to know more about the foreign (to me) sports cars. Anyone driven an Austin Martin? (Or atleast touch one.. ) I like how they look, how do they drive? Just as good? ![]() Still, I think the issue at heart would be for me where to get parts and not pay out the nose for them... But then again, if I had the money to own something like that, it wouldn't be a problem! ![]() |

AUSTIN Martin??? As a young guy a salesman gave me a ride in a DB4, smooth to way over 1 and a quarter, handled well enough at ANY speed, easily repaired by today's standards.
I had the chance to add $600 to the price of a Merc pickup to get one, but I needed the p/u more than speeding tickets, even if there wasn't a copcar in the area that could keep that Aston in sight. Austin Martin... We built the Lumbergini (what else do you call a wood car?) and have a number of designs for others, including the Ashton Martin, the Firarri, the Bent(wood)ley, etc, all wood construction on pickup chassis. |

I guess the most frustrating car I've owned was a '73 SAAB 99 EMS. Frustrating in that the engine and chassis were awesome, the 2 liter slant 4 had a big cam and great breathing allowed by the J tronic fuel injection all coupled to the front driven wheels by a great tranny with an Achilles heel of that stupid clutch to tranny gear tower,... PPPBBBBTTTT! I thoroughly despise all SAABs now, have had five of em and they're all high priced junk. Don't even get me started on the 95/96's with their precious freewheels.... and v4 balance shaft gears.... Rant over, I'm fine now. Looee |
