Astro 010 (801V), can't get brake to work.

I can't get the brake to work on my 801V Astro 010 motor. I carefully followed the programming instructions several times, and the controller beeps and flashes as if it was working, but the brake just won't activate when I cut the throttle. Any ideas?

Is your transmitter throttle trim set at the lowest point?

Some controllers only hit brake for a second or 2, just enough to get the prop to fold.

What test are you using to determine that it's not working ?

Thanks for the responses so far.

I'm using a computer radio and the throttle trim and travel are set to the normal default values. Aside from the brake, the throttle works just as it should. I tried playing with the trim and travel adjustments anyway, but that didn't help.

I doubt that's the case here, since the Astro Flight 010 motor and controller come with a non-folding prop. Besides, the brake doesn't work at all - not even for a second.

I hold the plane (Wattage Hawk) in my hand and run up the motor. Then I shut it down. The prop gradually coasts to a stop with no sign of braking. It behaves exactly the same no matter if the brake is programmed to be on or off. In flight the prop keeps spinning when the motor's off, even with a folding prop installed.

For reference, here are the complete instructions for operation of the brake:

--------------------------------------

Brakes The control is manufactured with brakes. The brakes can be activated and de-activated. To de-activate the brakes disconnect battery power and set the transmitter to Full throttle.
1. Connect battery power and wait for led to flash.
2. Go to half throttle and wait for flash.
3. Go to full throttle and wait for flash.
4. Go to half throttle and wait for flash.
5. Go to low throttle, then disconnect motor battery.
Next time you power up the brakes will be de-activated.
To re-activate the brakes, repeat the above procedure except at step 5 go to full throttle.

-----------------------------------------

I believe I'm doing exactly as the instructions say, but the brake just won't work. Any more ideas?
