German F3S Speedcup – info, pics, videos ...
this post does list some info focusing on the F3S Speed-Cup.
The idea is to encourage speed folks of other countries to introduce and establish their own F3S speed event in future. By using the same rules we will be able to objectively compare the results (i.e. top speed in F3S) internationally being common in other FAI disciplines such like F3D, F5D etc.
So this German annual straight line speed competition objectively reveals the true speed capabilities of the various purpose built RC speed plane designs (conventional, flying wing, delta, canard etc).
By applying the FAI rulebook a F3S event is the only opportunity for obtaining new world speed records both for the nitro and the electric (F3S-F) class. Sadly no dynamic soaring speeds (recorded by radar guns) can be considered objectively.
This is the main F3S page:

Now for some interesting discussion concerning a speed measuring device matching the FAI rules:
Rules governed by the FAI and DAeC plus additional info on safety precautions:
Certainly one of the most powerful FAI compliant (F3S-C) competition glow engines is the OPS .60 Super SPP VAE. Even without internal modifications this engine is hard to beat in combination with a purpose built speed plane.
The OPS engine thread provides some technical info...
Finally there are two F3S-videos and supplementary info/pics describing 40 years of F3S history:
Have a very fast year 2009!
