What's the gear ratio on the XL motor?
What's the weight of the plane + all parts excluding motor and batteries? This info will be sufficient to run a Motocalc and get you in the ball park. -- Kyle |

This was a very popular conversion a few years ago. Mine flew quite well with an Astro 40G and 21 cells. RTF weight was a bit over 10 pounds.

19lbs? I must be looking at the wrong plane on the Hangar 9 site. They list a J-3 Cub at 6lbs for glow which would be around 8-9lbs electric.
With right gearing on the Hacker 13XL, this is should a very easy conversion with lots of power. -- Kyle |

Thanks guys!!
Yes it is the 8 lb version.I think the heavier version is fabric covered.
I have not yet purchased a gear box as I was waiting for a little guidence on posable gear ratios.I know hacker now sells a 13XL with an attached transmission. But I didnt see buying another motor when I already have one. Are there any archived conversion articles? Will the hacker 99 sufice as a speedo. The club around here has a grass feild and I was thinking of using large tires to give that Alaska tundra bush Pilot kinda look.Would this cause any issues.Cg moment problems?Bad ground handling or rotation problems? Thanks again you guys are great I think Im going to enjoy this as a break from FE boat racing. That cub is just ....Awsome! Are there any internal Mods to be made for the conversion ? I know I have a lot of questions..Hope dont sound too dumb ? |

Welcome to the Ezone Dennis!
The Hanger 9 Cub has been converted many times before. Have you tried the search? Here's what I came up with searching for "hanger + cub". Actually your questions may possibly recieve a better responce in the "Scale Modeling" forum. I'll help you out by moving this thread there. |
